✅ 4-Star / Public Bath / Near Kyoto Station
Hey everyone! Welcome to Moni's Travel Diary.
Last September, I went on a 5-day, 4-night trip purely to Kyoto!
Today, I want to share a
super affordable ~$38/night hotel right near Kyoto Station.
Since it just opened in 2023,
there were barely any reviews online yet.
I was a little worried at first, but it turned out to be an amazing stay,
so I'm excited to share my recommendation!
Since there aren't many reviews out there,
I'll make this as detailed as possible to cover everything you might be curious about!

01. Hotel Introduction
🏩 Loisir Hotel Kyoto Toji

🏩 Loisir Hotel Kyoto Toji
This hotel is managed by Solare Hotels & Resorts,
a well-known hotel group in Japan!
Since it was only around ~$38 a night, I didn't expect much,
but maybe because it's run by a proper hotel brand,
the building was surprisingly large and
felt really well-maintained.

The hotel is a newly built property that opened in September 2023.
The exterior has a clean, modern business hotel look,
and since it's practically brand new, the facilities are immaculately clean,
giving a great first impression right from the start 🤭

📍 Location
- 41-10 Sujakuuchihatacho,
Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, 600-8843 Japan
- A 10 to 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station
Google Maps shows a 10-minute walk,
but I think that's measured from the very edge of the station complex... ㅠㅠ
Since Kyoto Station itself is huge, you should probably count on a solid 15 minutes.
I stopped by Aeon Mall and looked around Kyoto Station,
so I couldn't time the walk exactly. 😭

You can easily walk to Kyoto Station,
but when traveling to tourist spots around Kawaramachi,
it's best to take a bus.
(Pro tip: Don't walk behind the elementary school;
taking the pedestrian overpass is much faster!)

Since I had an early morning flight to catch
on my last day,
I was looking specifically for hotels near Kyoto Station.
And I booked this place because
it looked incredibly clean and budget-friendly.

While it's near Kyoto Station, it's located in the opposite direction of the main tourist areas,
so it is a bit of a bummer that there isn't much around the immediate vicinity.
(It's very quiet, though.)
Still, there's an Aeon Mall nearby—a brand that many travelers love to visit—
so it’s definitely worth checking out!
They have gachapon (capsule toy) shops and a great supermarket to explore.
📌 Price Info
When choosing where to stay,
the most important thing is definitely the price!
Since Kyoto is one of the top tourist destinations in Japan,
decent modern hotels can be
on the pricier side...
But this place is an ultra-budget-friendly hotel
where you can stay starting from the ~$38 range!

* Please note that hotel prices fluctuate in real-time.
Based on the off-season,
it's available for 2 people starting at just ~$38!
Kyoto city policy requires an additional accommodation tax.
* Per night, per person: Under 6,000 JPY / 200 JPY
Under 19,999 JPY / 400 JPY
You can basically expect to pay
200 JPY (or 400 JPY) per person per night.
I highly, highly recommend
this hotel for its off-season rates! 💛

02 Room Review & Stay Experience
Non-Smoking Moderate Twin Room
As for room types,
they have a wide variety of options—from Standard, Moderate, Superior, and Deluxe
to Connecting Rooms and Family Rooms, which are great for families.

Out of those, I stayed in the Moderate Room!
Here is my booking details via Trip.com,
reserved about 10 days before the trip for 2 nights during the off-season.
💡 September (Off-Season) / Moderate Twin /
2 Nights / 2 People: Total ~$86
Since Kyoto has an accommodation tax,
we paid an additional 800 JPY (for 2 people) at the property!
(Even with that added, it came to less than
~$96 total for 2 people for 2 nights... absolute steal!)

📌 Check-in & Check-out
Check-in time | From 3:00 PM~
Check-out time | Until 11:00 AM
We arrived at 2:20 PM
just hoping to drop off our luggage,
but they kindly let us check in early
so we got to settle in right away! 🙇🏻♀️

Took the elevator up
to our assigned room on the 8th floor!

Moderate Twin Room
I've stayed in plenty of Japanese business hotels since my college days,
and honestly, they are usually tiny...
Like, you can't even open your suitcase, and the room just ends at the bed.
I expected this one to be the same, but...
I was so surprised by how spacious the room actually was! 😳
I looked it up, and it's 20m²!
We had plenty of space to lay out our suitcases, plus there was a sofa. So good! 👍🏻
✅ Since the price is almost the same, I highly recommend
this room over the Standard one—it comes with a sofa and a large window!

There are twin beds—
both in a cozy single bed size.
Right in front of the beds,
there's a TV.

And yes, there's even a sofa!
If you have extra guests,
they say the sofa can be converted into an extra bed.

The View (Toji Temple View vs. No View)
While they do offer a Toji Temple view,
I opted for the standard "no view" option!
On the booking site I used at the time,
the Toji Temple view room was a bit pricier.
Since I usually just sleep at the hotel anyway,
I chose the basic option.
But looking back, the price difference wasn't too bad, so if you want to pamper yourself,
I highly recommend trying the Toji Temple view (it's a World Heritage Site!).

📍 Toilet / Bathroom
The toilet and the shower area were separate,
and the sink was located outside, which was super convenient.
There's no bathtub in the room's bathroom,
but if you want to soak in a hot tub,
you can head down to the large public bath (Daiyokujo)!
03. Amenities & Services
Large Public Bath (Daiyokujo) ♨️

📌 Public Bath / B1 Floor
6:00 AM – 1:00 AM (Next Day)
You get free access to the public bath at this amazing price point! ✨
It was on the smaller side,
but soaking in the hot water was the perfect way to melt away all the fatigue from walking.

You can check how crowded the bath is from your room TV
before heading down!

📌 Lobby / 1st Floor
The lobby was spacious,
and I loved how incredibly modern and brand-new everything felt!

Right in front of the elevators on the first floor,
there's a free amenity bar set up.
They had toothbrushes, cotton swabs, shower essentials, and more.
They also have quite a few items
you can borrow from the reception desk.
⬇️

Services Available at Reception
From chargers, irons, and hair straighteners to umbrellas—
there was a great selection of items you can borrow for free.
I borrowed a hair straightener, and it worked flawlessly. So good!
If you're staying here, you can definitely save some luggage space and leave those bulky styling tools at home!
They also have bicycle rentals available,
so if you have some extra time in your itinerary, definitely give it a try!!
Just so you know, they also offer a breakfast service at the hotel!
I heard the reviews are actually quite good...
but unfortunately, I couldn't try it due to my tight schedule😭
You can book a package that includes breakfast,
or add it separately for 1,800 JPY (~$12).

Have an amazing trip to Kyoto! 👋🏻
Google Maps shows it as a 10-minute walk, but since Kyoto Station is quite large inside, it actually takes about 15 minutes. You can get there faster by using the overpass instead of the back road behind the elementary school.
Yes, an accommodation tax is added according to Kyoto City policy. If the nightly room rate is under 20,000 JPY per person, an additional 200 JPY must be paid separately.
The Moderate Twin Room is 20m² in size. It is more spacious than a typical Japanese business hotel, offering plenty of room to fully open your luggage, and it also features a sofa inside.
The public bath operates from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM the following day. It is free for guests to use, and you can check the crowding level of the bath in advance from your room.
You can borrow items such as hair styling irons, chargers, irons, and umbrellas for free at the reception. Bicycles are also available for rent, which is useful for exploring the surrounding area.
