When you think of a trip to Banff, Canada,

one of the most famous spots is undoubtedly Lake Louise.

While the **emerald-hued lake** set against the backdrop

of the **Rocky Mountains** is stunning,

this time, I decided to go hiking!

Today, I'll introduce **two trekking routes**

that offer different charms and difficulty levels 🩵

1. How to Get to Lake Louise

We were able to pack breakfast from our accommodation near Lake Louise,

so we grabbed it and headed out bright and early!

We drove our rental car to the shuttle boarding area,

Lake Louise Park and Ride, parked, and then took the shuttle.

Before our Banff trip, we pre-booked the first shuttle

and exchanged our reservation for physical boarding passes on site.

If you have a rental car, you can take the first shuttle to catch the sunrise,

and it makes planning your itinerary much easier,

so I highly recommend renting a car if you can drive!

If you take the first shuttle and arrive a little early,

you can even catch the sunrise over Lake Louise!

As expected, sunrise is super popular, so there were an incredible number of people waiting in line 🥹

2. Hiking & Trekking Routes

There were two main hiking trails I took at Lake Louise:

1️⃣ Fairview Lookout

2km, 1 hour, Difficulty: Easy-Moderate

Short uphill climb with views of the lake and the Chateau hotel.

2️⃣ Big Beehive

10-11km, 4-5 hours, Difficulty: Moderate-Hard

Passes Mirror Lake > Lake Agnes, then offers lake views from the summit.

💡 Hiking Essentials

Hiking boots, plenty of water, windbreaker, snacks, bear spray (optional)

3. Fairview Lookout Trail Review

Fairview Lookout is one of the two trails...

It's a course you can tackle relatively quickly!

As you follow the forest path, perhaps because it's a course where you ascend quite a bit in a short time,

there were some uphill sections that left me a little breathless.

We reached the summit much faster than I expected!

The view was truly stunning, with the emerald-hued lake and the Fairmont Chateau Hotel harmoniously blending amidst the trees 🩵.

This is a recommended course for those who find long hikes daunting,

as it's a relatively easy challenge, taking about an hour round trip,

while still offering panoramic views of the entire landscape.

4. Big Beehive Course Review

The Big Beehive trail starts from Lake Louise and is a long, continuous ascent that takes you through

Mirror Lake > Lake Agnes > to the Big Beehive.

Since this isn't just a casual stroll but a proper hiking trail,

I highly recommend wearing hiking boots!

Initially, you'll continuously ascend through the forest path,

and as the altitude gradually increases, the views of Lake Louise peeking through the trees also change beautifully.

The very first place we encountered after starting our hike was

Mirror Lake!

It's a small lake, nestled within a dense forest,

creating a wonderfully quiet and cozy atmosphere – perfect for taking a break.

After passing Mirror Lake and continuing up the mountain path,

you'll reach Lake Agnes!

Lake Agnes felt like a tranquil, hidden gem nestled deep within the mountains.

It offered a distinct Rocky Mountain vibe, different yet equally captivating compared to Lake Louise.

Upon reaching Lake Agnes, you'll also find the famous Tea House,

but there were so many people waiting that getting a drink looked nearly impossible haha 😅.

Make sure to use the outdoor restroom here before you continue!

Now for the final leg: the Big Beehive!

The path from Lake Agnes to the Big Beehive definitely saw a sharp increase in difficulty.

After walking along Lake Agnes, the trail continues up the mountain.

It's a continuous ascent with a steep,

winding path, so you definitely need

a lot of stamina....

And finally, we arrived at Big Beehive!!!

This was truly the highlight of our hike that day!

Looking down from this high vantage point, the emerald waters appeared even more vivid,

and we could take in the mountains and forests all at once,

making it even more spectacular 🩵

The Fairmont Chateau hotel visible below

felt so tiny, which really made us realize just how high

we had climbed!

It's a tough climb, but the satisfaction of the view from the summit is truly immense,

which is why I highly recommend the Big Beehive trail 🥹

After hiking Lake Louise ourselves,

we saw a side of Lake Louise we hadn't known before,

making it the most memorable experience of our Banff trip!

If your schedule and stamina allow, I highly recommend trying at least one hiking trail,
