It is no exaggeration to say that Hanoi is a city of cafes.
Every corner reveals a new spot with a unique concept and incredible atmosphere.
Having lived in Hanoi for a few years now,
I started getting a bit tired of the usual crowded spots in the Old Quarter and West Lake.
I wanted to find a place where locals hang out instead of tourists,
and that is how I stumbled upon this hidden gem.
Tucked away in the quiet alleys of Cầu Giấy,
La Farine is a stunning garden cafe
that feels like a completely different world. Here is my honest review of my visit.

It is not located right on the main street;
you have to turn down a couple of narrow alleys to find the entrance.
If it is your first time visiting, it is highly recommended to follow Google Maps closely
and keep an eye on the house numbers.
As you enter, the security guard will help park your motorbike
and ask you to switch off your engine immediately.
Since it is located in a quiet residential area,
they are very mindful of keeping the noise down.
While finding it might take a bit of effort,
I actually found this little adventure to be
part of the cafe's unique charm.
You would never expect to find such a beautiful, open space
hidden deep inside these narrow residential streets.

The Atmosphere
Stepping into an entirely different world!
Once you pass the entryway,
you are greeted by a large courtyard with two buildings facing each other.
It is filled with lush green plants. The botanical garden aesthetic makes it hard to believe you are still in the middle of bustling Hanoi. It feels incredibly peaceful and organized.
There are outdoor seats available as well,
which would be absolutely perfect for enjoying a chat in the cooler afternoon hours
once the intense midday sun starts to fade.
A Great Work-Friendly Spot
Of the two structures, the building on the right
is a fully air-conditioned indoor space.
It was the perfect escape from Hanoi's humid 95°F heat,
and with plenty of power outlets available,
it is highly convenient for setting up a laptop and working for a few hours.
The other building and the outdoor garden area
feel more geared toward taking photos and relaxing.
If you are coming alone to focus and get some work done, head straight for the air-conditioned indoor building.
If you want to snap some aesthetic photos and soak in the garden vibes, the outdoor seats are your best bet.
Of course, since it was scorching hot when we visited,
our choice was immediately the air-conditioned indoor seating!

What We Ordered
Cold Brew & Brownie
For this visit, we ordered two glasses of Cold Brew and one Salted Cream Brownie.
The Cold Brew was delightfully strong and bold,
and served with large, slow-melting ice cubes
so it didn't get watered down while we worked.
The only downside was that the portion size was a bit small... 🥲
However, it wasn't overly sweet,
which made it very smooth and easy to drink.
The brownie was topped with a rich salted cream,
and the sweet-and-salty balance was spot on without being overwhelming.
It paired beautifully with the bold flavors of the cold brew.
I saw some reviews mentioning that their coconut coffee drinks
tend to be on the sweeter side,
but the cold brew was a completely different, clean experience.

While it is slightly pricier than typical local Hanoi cafes,
the beautiful design and peaceful workspace make it well worth the price.

✔︎ Finding the entrance through the maze of alleys can be a bit confusing
✔︎ The outdoor garden seating is too hot to enjoy during the peak afternoon sun
✔︎ Drink prices are a bit premium compared to other local Hanoi cafes
Final Thoughts
It has been a while since I found a cafe with such an exotic, calming vibe.
It seems to be a popular hotspot for local Vietnamese college students,
but despite the young crowd, everyone was focused on studying and working
rather than making noise. I will definitely be coming back here to get some work done!

A glass of cold brew is 70,000 VND, and the salted cream brownie is 60,000 VND. This is slightly on the higher side for local cafes in Hanoi, but it is a reasonable price considering the space and atmosphere.
