Umekoji Kadensho Kyoto Ryokan 2026: Family & Couple Stays

If you're dreaming of a trip to Kyoto, a ryokan stay is probably high on your list!

And guess what? This gem is just one stop away from Kyoto Station!

Introducing the Kyoto Ryokan Hotel Umekoji Kadensho.

With both a spacious public bath and private baths, it's a fantastic option for anyone planning their Kyoto accommodation.

I'm excited to share my recommendation!

As a newly opened ryokan hotel, the entrance immediately impressed with its pristine charm.

Even though it's nestled right in the heart of the city,

it perfectly captures the authentic essence of a traditional Japanese ryokan!

Check-in, Interior & Room Facilities

The lobby is wonderfully spacious and bright, yet its warm tones immediately create a cozy atmosphere.

From the moment you step in, it feels incredibly inviting.

Before you even step into the main lobby, you'll notice the entire floor is covered in traditional tatami mats.

So, naturally, you'll slip off your shoes before entering.

Amenities & Thoughtful Touches

On the first floor, you can pick up hair ties and choose a beautiful yukata.

They have yukata available in all sizes, from children's to adult, so there's no need to worry about finding the perfect fit.

You can simply choose the one you love!

At the welcoming drink corner on the first floor,

you'll find a delightful selection of traditional Japanese teas like green tea, barley tea, Umehojicha, and genmaicha, alongside

black tea and iced tea, making it easy to pick your favorite refreshment.

And for coffee lovers, they have everything from iced and hot coffee to cafe lattes and even matcha lattes!

Seriously, there's no need to even step out for a cafe!

While many hotels typically have two elevators,

Umekoji Kadensho goes above and beyond with three elevators!

This was such a blessing, meaning no long waits during busy check-in or check-out times.

My Twin Room Experience

We opted for a twin room,

and the spacious beds with firm mattresses ensured a truly restful stay.

Even though it's just one stop from Kyoto Station,

we experienced absolutely no external noise and barely any sound from neighboring rooms.

I'm usually quite sensitive to noise, but I slept like a baby here!

While each room comes with a standard pillow,

the thoughtful hotel provides a selection of pillows with varying heights and firmness in the hallway.

You're welcome to choose the one that suits you best!

As someone with a neck disc issue, I truly appreciated this and found it incredibly comfortable.

The toilet, washbasin, and shower area are all thoughtfully separated,

and as you'd expect from a brand-new hotel, everything was spotlessly clean, free of any mold or water stains.

I booked a twin room for around mid-~$200s per night,

Keep in mind that hotel prices can vary wildly depending on your booking date and the time of year you visit.

Prices can be all over the map.

While the average price tends to be in the mid-~$200s,

I've seen the same room type available for as low as ~$150!

Kaiseki Dinner Experience

The exquisite kaiseki menu changes with the seasons,

and you can even choose your main dish based on your preference.

The pacing of the dishes was absolutely perfect, so

It was perfect for a slow, enjoyable experience.

The meal started with refreshing finger foods,

allowing us to savor the natural flavors of the ingredients.

Although it was aged sashimi, it was fresh and not fishy at all,

and the grilled fish felt a bit dry, but it was still good.

The portion of shabu-shabu for one person was just right, which was perfect.

Sometimes fried dishes can come out cold,

but these were served warm, so we really enjoyed them.

The beef served with a miso-based sauce was slightly seasoned,

but the seasoning was so delicious that even if it was a little salty, it was still enjoyable.

The meal concluded cleanly with warm Ochazuke (rice with tea),

making the entire course feel perfectly balanced and not overwhelming.

For dessert, mochi and fruit!

Private Open-Air Baths (Individual Baths) Available 24 Hours

There are a total of five private baths,

and the first one, Seokyeong (Quartz), was the most popular.

For the private baths, if the light is on, it's in use; if it's off,

it's immediately available.

You can use it for 45 minutes, and when your desired bath is vacant,

you can freely enter – it's that simple!

During the evening hours, there are many users,

so if you want to enjoy it a bit more leisurely, avoid peak times!

However, only soaking in the hot spring is possible inside the private baths,

and there's no washing area, so you'll need to shampoo and shower

separately in your room, which was a minor inconvenience.

There's also a massage chair that you can use for free while waiting for the public bath,

so it's perfect if you're traveling with your parents!

Complimentary Soba and Ice Cream

After using the bath,

there's also a complimentary ice cream corner (3:00 PM - 12:00 AM),

so be sure to stop by!

From 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM,

the hotel also offers a complimentary soba service,

you can eat it right there or take it back to your room.

I enjoyed snacks bought from the Seven-Eleven convenience store across the road from the ryokan,

along with the complimentary soba :)

Breakfast

Breakfast is available from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM,

with last entry at 9:00 AM.

Upon entering, a staff member will assign you a seat,

and there was a wide variety of options, from Japanese to Western-style dishes.

The diverse menu made it easy to pick something that suited my morning appetite!

This ryokan hotel truly exceeded expectations in terms of location, cleanliness, and facilities.

Its proximity to Kyoto Station was a huge plus, and even a taxi ride didn't break the bank.

Although I stayed in a twin room for two people,

they also have triple and quad rooms for three or four guests,

making it perfect for families too!

The warm ambiance of a traditional ryokan blends seamlessly with modern amenities,

making it my top recommendation for an onsen accommodation in Kyoto!
