Kyoto Arashiyama Fufunoyu Onsen Review 2026: A Relaxing Day Trip Escape

A day trip to Kyoto from Osaka is always a fantastic idea, and I recently revisited some of my favorite spots on a convenient bus tour!

I snagged discounted tickets for the Osaka-Kyoto day trip bus tour on Klook – I've actually done this tour twice!

On the End Day Trip Osaka Kyoto bus tour, we had about 2 hours of free time in Arashiyama. I decided to use that time to visit Fufunoyu Onsen for a refreshing soak.

Arashiyama was the final stop on our Kyoto day tour. After exploring the essential Bamboo Grove, visiting Nonomiya Shrine nestled within it, and crossing the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge (which means 'moon-crossing bridge'), I had about an hour of free time. Without hesitation, I headed straight for the onsen!

While the day tour bus made it easy to visit several spots in Kyoto from Osaka, hitting 4-5 locations in one day and walking all day can definitely leave you feeling tired!

I'm a big fan of saunas and hot springs, both at home and when traveling. Kyoto's Arashiyama Fufunoyu Onsen, though not huge, was incredibly cozy. The warm, glowing lights and the tranquil outdoor bath were simply perfect.

Since this was a spontaneous visit, we bought our tickets directly from the machine at the onsen at the full price. However, I later found out that many online travel platforms offer discounted tickets and admission passes!

After getting your admission ticket, you'll find shoe lockers to store your footwear.

Naturally, the men's and women's baths are separate! You won't even encounter each other in the outdoor baths. Just enjoy your individual soak and meet up in the lobby afterward.

Just a 3-minute walk from Arashiyama Hankyu Station.

2. Admission Ticket Prices (Standard Rates)

Adults (per person): ~$8 on weekdays / ~$9 on weekends

Children (3 years old to elementary school age): ~$4

If you purchase through travel activity platforms like Klook or Waug, you can typically find tickets at about a 20% discount.

On Klook, adult admission prices are:

3. What to Bring

Since both body and hand towels are available for a fee, it's a good idea to bring your own towels if you're planning a visit!

4. Recommended Visiting Seasons

Fufunoyu Onsen is wonderful to visit year-round, but it's especially recommended in autumn when you can admire the vibrant red foliage in the garden, and in winter for the beautiful scenery of the snow-covered outdoor bath.

5. Fufunoyu Onsen Internal Restaurant

There's a lovely dining area where you can enjoy a meal with a view of the outside scenery. The onsen restaurant itself was so beautiful, it felt like a scene straight out of a movie.

Since we visited during our free time on the End Day Trip Kyoto bus tour, we didn't have enough leisure to enjoy a full meal. However, if you're visiting Kyoto independently to enjoy the onsen, I'd highly recommend having a simple meal here after your soak.

There's also a separate souvenir shop, which was fun to browse.

We visited in November, and the outdoor bath water was perfectly warm and inviting! It felt incredibly soothing, melting away all the day's fatigue.

The onsen itself beautifully blends Japan's characteristic neatness with a serene, tranquil atmosphere. The indoor baths are also divided into two sections and are impeccably clean!

Adorned with plants, rocks, and trees, the outdoor bath offered a feeling of peaceful relaxation amidst nature – a truly unique experience that's hard to find back home. Highly recommended!
