For a 2-night, 3-day trip, most people tend to focus on Osaka, but if Kyoto is calling your name, getting between the airport and Kyoto is super convenient, making your itinerary planning a breeze.
The flight from Incheon to Osaka is just two hours, and from Kansai Airport to Kyoto Station, the Haruka Limited Express train gets you there in just 75 minutes, no transfers needed!

I’ve personally taken the Haruka from Osaka Kansai Airport and headed straight to Kyoto before. Especially since autumn colors arrive a bit later in Kyoto than in Korea, it’s the perfect time to book your trip and experience it now.

I'll lay out a 2-night, 3-day Kyoto itinerary, Osaka flight prices, and even some discount codes for you.

I bought mine on Klook!

As I traveled, enjoying a donut and water I bought from FamilyMart, and gazing out the window, I truly felt like I was on an adventure.
Recommended One-Day Itinerary

I recommend an early morning 'open run' to Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) as your first stop. Admission for those 16 and older is 500 yen, and remember to bring yen cash as cards are not accepted.
The golden pavilion, reflected in the pond, was absolutely stunning.

Ninnenzaka and Sannenzaka, on the path up to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, perfectly capture the charm of old Kyoto's streets. However, even by 9 AM, they can get incredibly crowded with many travelers.

We took a city bus to Kiyomizu-dera Temple,
and between all the walking and waiting,
the transfer from Kinkaku-ji Temple alone took about an hour.

Though I was truly surprised by the sheer number of people there,
the city view from the top was absolutely stunning.
It's especially beautiful if you visit in the autumn.

From Kiyomizu-dera Temple, we passed through Gion Street
and slowly walked all the way to Kawaramachi Station.
It takes some time, but you get to see such a beautiful
view of the Kamo River.

This route truly captures the essence of Kyoto's unique atmosphere,
so if you've explored Kiyomizu-dera's Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka slopes,
I highly recommend continuing your walk to the Kawaramachi shopping district.

In the Kawaramachi shopping district,
you'll find Takashimaya, OPA, and BAL all grouped together.
It's a covered arcade, so it's comfortable to walk even if it rains,
and while Nishiki Market is nearby,
the food was quite pricey, so I only browsed.
Seriously, you can't compare the prices to Osaka's markets!
Kyoto Railway Museum Tickets and Bus Tour

I personally recommend visiting
the Railway Museum, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
It's just a 6-minute JR train ride from Kyoto Station, where you can see old Shinkansen trains,
and it's a great spot if you're traveling with children.
⭐Admission Fees⭐
Adults: 1,500 yen
University/High School Students: 1,300 yen
Elementary/Junior High School Students: 500 yen
Closed on Wednesdays

Interestingly, while there were many families,
there were also quite a few younger local visitors.
The reason is that it offers everything from trains brimming with retro charm
to glimpses of stations from bygone eras.
It was a place with far more photo opportunities than I expected!
▲▲▲
When I visited, I didn't know and bought tickets on-site,
but you can get a discount if you purchase them online in advance!

When I explored using public transportation,
I found that the attractions were more spread out than I expected,
and I ended up missing a few spots I had planned to visit.
If you're a leisurely traveler, that's perfectly fine,
but if you want to visit all the famous sites, I recommend a bus tour!
There's a bus tour available for pick-up and drop-off at Kyoto Station,
so consider using it for a day trip.
▲▲
With a 9:30 AM pick-up,
it's also a great tour for traveling with children.

While vibrant Osaka is wonderful,
if you're looking for a slightly more tranquil journey,
Kyoto is the city I'd tell you to visit.
It's perfect for a 2-night, 3-day trip if you're taking a few days off to explore Kyoto exclusively,
especially with its excellent connections to the airport via express trains.
Kyoto is a city with a distinct seasonal charm,
so it's truly beautiful no matter when you go.
