How to Exchange Your Ticket at Narita Airport
When planning a trip to Tokyo, the very first thing you'll probably think about is
getting from the airport to the city!
Since Narita Airport is quite far from the downtown area,
✔️ Limousine Bus
✔️ Skyliner
✔️ N'EX (Narita Express)
many travelers find themselves debating which one to take.
I actually took the Skyliner,
and it took just 36 minutes to reach Nippori Station—
talk about lightning fast! ⚡
But if it's your first time booking, you probably have a few burning questions, like:
Q. Where can I buy it for the cheapest price?
Q. Can I board using just a QR code?
Q. If I have to exchange it, where do I go?

Tokyo Skyliner Route
The Skyliner route is super simple and straightforward:
Airport → Nippori Station → Ueno Station
Ueno Station is the final stop!
Since you can transfer to the JR lines at Nippori Station,
you should get off at Nippori if you need to hop onto a JR train.
Tokyo Skyliner Timetable
Narita Airport → Downtown Tokyo
The Tokyo Skyliner runs incredibly frequently,
so you won't have to wait around long!
▪️ Departs from Narita Airport every 20 minutes
▪️ First train from Terminal 1:
: 7:23 AM on weekdays / 7:30 AM on weekends
The schedules differ slightly between weekdays and weekends, so be sure to check ahead! :D
Ueno → Narita Airport
Ueno Station is the starting point when heading from downtown back to
Narita Airport via the Skyliner.
▪️ First train: 5:40 AM
I also caught the Skyliner from Ueno on my way back.
Since it's the starting station, the train was already waiting at the platform,
so I could hop right on even though I arrived a bit early!

Online booking is cheaper than buying on-site!
Buying a Tokyo Skyliner ticket on-site will cost you 📌2,580 yen.
That’s approximately ~$15 as of the writing date.
Since 🌟online booking🌟 is much cheaper than buying on-site,
I highly recommend booking in advance!

Comparing the prices before my trip,
Klook was cheaper at the time of writing—
By booking through Klook in advance,

⚠️ Things to Know Before Booking ⚠️
Skyliner tickets cannot be used on the day of purchase,
📌 so please make sure to book at least one day before your travel date!
Skyliner + Tokyo Subway Ticket (Metro Pass)
Since the Tokyo Subway Ticket (Metro Pass) is an absolute must-have for getting around Tokyo,

▪️Tokyo Subway Ticket 24-Hour (e-ticket) = ~$6

Exchanging Tickets at Narita Airport Terminal 2
For the Skyliner, you can't just use a 🚫QR code directly—
👉 you need to exchange it for a physical ticket!
1️⃣ Follow the "Train" signs
2️⃣ Just keep following those "Train" signs
3️⃣ And you'll head down an escalator
Once you're down, you'll see a large Skyliner ticket office...
✖️ NOT here! ✖️
👉 Head to the Keisei Information Center right next to the FamilyMart on the left to exchange your ticket.
I was a bit confused at first too, but
remember you need to go to the Keisei Center, not the main Skyliner ticket office!
Since I bought a round-trip ticket,
👉 they handed me the ticket for my immediate ride right away,
👉 and put the return voucher in an envelope.
Just note that this return voucher isn't your actual ticket yet!
❗️You must exchange it for a real ticket at the counter on your departure day.
Where to Board the Tokyo Skyliner
Once you've got your physical ticket,
just follow the "Skyliner" guides painted on the floor, and you're good to go!
Finding the platform is super easy.
✅ Remember: you must exchange your voucher for a physical ticket.
✅ At Narita Airport Terminal 2, head straight to the Keisei Information Center.
If you're heading from Narita Airport to Ueno or Nippori,
the Skyliner is easily one of the fastest and most comfortable ways to travel.
If you plan on using it both ways,
instead of buying two separate one-way tickets,
getting a round-trip ticket definitely feels like it saves a bit of time
and makes the ticket exchange process smoother! haha
Especially on the final day, when exchanging my return ticket at Ueno Station,
they swapped it instantly without requiring a passport check or anything,
which was so convenient! *.*
Booking online in advance is not only cheaper than buying on-site,
but it also cuts down on wait times.
So I highly recommend comparing prices and booking wherever is cheapest! -
