If there's one place you absolutely CANNOT miss on your Kawaguchiko adventure, it's Arakurayama Sengen Park!

This is *the* iconic spot where you can capture that quintessential 'Japan' image: the vibrant red five-story pagoda, majestic Mount Fuji, and delicate pink cherry blossoms, all perfectly framed in a single shot.

Yes, there are about 400 steps to climb, but trust me...

the moment you reach the observation deck, you'll experience a magic where all your fatigue simply melts away.

During cherry blossom season, it gets incredibly crowded, so I highly recommend aiming to visit before 8 AM if you want to beat the rush and enjoy the view!

2. Shimoyoshida Honcho Street: Location

Just a short walk down from the park, you'll discover Shimoyoshida Honcho Street, a buzzing hotspot on social media!

Thanks to its unique, exotic scenery – where the majestic Mount Fuji appears to 'hang' at the very end of the street – it's become a popular photo spot, often with a queue of eager photographers!

Location: 3-chōme-13 Shimoyoshida

Just a heads-up: this is an active road with real traffic, so please be extra mindful of your safety while capturing those amazing shots.

The blend of traffic lights, power lines, and uniquely Japanese shop signs creates a cinematic color palette that truly shines, even without any editing!

Heads up for fellow travelers: I found out that buses don't operate in the Shimoyoshida area during the cherry blossom season (usually April 1st to April 19th)! 🙁

So, while Google Maps suggested the bus as the cheapest and least walking-intensive route, I ended up taking the train instead.

3. Oishi Park: Where Lake and Flowers Paint a Scenic Masterpiece

Nestled on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko, Oishi Park offers unparalleled views of Mount Fuji gracefully rising across the water – truly the best vantage point around!

Not just cherry blossoms, but a variety of flowers bloom every season here,

As you stroll along the promenade, you'll soon understand why this place is a true paradise for photographers.

To reach Oishi Park,

just hop on the Red Line bus and get off at the very last stop!

Make sure you grab a seat – it's a must!

Oishi Park boasts an incredible variety of flowers blooming month by month,

allowing you to capture stunning photos of Mt. Fuji framed by beautiful blossoms

across all four seasons!

Head to Oishi Park in June or July to witness Mt. Fuji bathed in a gorgeous lavender hue from the blooming fields!

And if you visit in mid-October or early November, when the kochia plants are in full bloom,

you'll be greeted by an equally stunning sight!

While you're here, don't forget to treat yourself to the delicious blueberry soft-serve ice cream sold right at the park!

and take your time to admire the scenery!

Right next to the ice cream shop at Oishi Park,

you'll also find a souvenir shop!

As there aren't many souvenir shops in the immediate area,

I highly recommend picking up your souvenirs here!

4. Kawaguchiko Red Line Bus: Essential Tips

The most convenient way to connect all of Kawaguchiko's major attractions

is undoubtedly the Red Line Bus (Kawaguchiko Sightseeing Bus).

Frequency: Buses run approximately every 15 to 20 minutes.

Free Pass: If you're planning to ride the bus more than three times a day,

it's much more economical to purchase a 'Free Pass' ticket.

Important Note: During cherry blossom season, traffic can get quite heavy,

so it's a good idea to plan your schedule with plenty of extra time.

I actually went during cherry blossom season, and let me tell you,

the traffic situation was absolutely insane!

That's why I recommend planning your itinerary with plenty of buffer time

and securing your bus pass in advance.

5. Essential Travel Hacks & Booking Information

Mount Fuji is often hidden by clouds, so before visiting,

it's essential to check the real-time weather via the Mount Fuji webcam.

Also, trains like the Fuji Excursion or highway buses

from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko sell out quickly,

so make sure to book in advance!

Pro Tip!

For buses, always aim for the first one.

When heading back to Shinjuku, book two bus tickets initially!

One for the last bus or after dinner,

and another for an earlier departure (around 5 PM) if you want to eat dinner in Shinjuku.

Then, depending on your plans, you can cancel one.

You'll need to make these reservations about a month in advance!!

(Especially crucial during cherry blossom season!!!)
