Tokyo Flight Price Comparison 2026: Regional Airport Deals
Tired of the long trek to major airports for Tokyo flights? Discover how flying from regional hubs like Busan or Daegu can save you time and money. We compare 2026 round-trip prices!

When I search for flights to Tokyo,
the prices departing from Incheon are always the first to catch my eye.
There are so many flights,
and the prices are usually really good too.
But if you live outside the Seoul metropolitan area, the story changes a bit...!

You have to factor in transportation costs to Incheon Airport,
spend several hours traveling,
and if you get an early morning flight, you're exhausted before your trip even begins, sigh.
Of course, I'd love to fly cheaply from Incheon too, haha!
But if the price and baggage conditions aren't significantly different,
I much prefer departing directly from the airport closest to my home.

So this time,
I didn't just look at Incheon. I compared Tokyo flight prices from Busan, Cheongju, Daegu, and Gimpo,
all for the same date, one adult, and a 3-night, 4-day round trip.
I didn't just look for the absolute lowest price;
I also considered checked baggage and departure/arrival times.

1. Tokyo Flight Prices

Under the conditions I compared,
the price difference varied quite a bit depending on the departure airport.
And if you only look at the lowest price that first appears on screen,
it can get a little confusing.

Especially with LCCs (Low-Cost Carriers),
prices often exclude checked baggage, so
I tried my best to match the baggage conditions.
Departure | Arrival Airport | Round-Trip Price | Checked Baggage | Departure/Return Flight Time |
Incheon | Narita | ~$222 | 15kg | 8:35/18:55 |
Busan | ~$233 | 15kg | 8:20/11:25
Cheongju | ~$297 | 15kg | 15:50/10:35
Daegu | ~$340 | 15kg | 15:00/14:20
Gimpo | Haneda | ~$433 | 23kgx2 | 12:20/20:00 |
Just looking at the price,
Incheon was the cheapest at ~$222.

But after looking at this table,
I didn't automatically think Incheon was the only answer.
That's because you have to add in the transportation costs and time to get to the airport from where you live to get the true total trip cost.

2. Departing from Incheon

A round-trip ticket from Incheon to Tokyo was ~$222.
It included 15kg of checked baggage,
departing at 8:35 AM and
arriving at Narita at 11:05 AM.
On the return day,
it departs from Narita at 6:55 PM, so
you can enjoy quite a long stay right up until the last day.

Honestly, just looking at the flight ticket itself,
the Incheon option was genuinely great this time, haha!
The price was the lowest,
and the timings were a combination I really like.
If you live in the greater Seoul area,
I think I'd also look at Incheon first without much hesitation.

3. Departing from Busan

Departing from Busan was ~$233 round trip.
It was only ~$11 more expensive than Incheon,
and it also included 15kg of checked baggage.
For such a small difference,
if you live in Busan or Gyeongnam,
I think I'd just depart from Busan, haha!

Considering the train or bus costs to get all the way to Incheon,
and the travel time,
that ~$11 difference quickly disappears, doesn't it?
The outbound flight is at 8:20 AM,
arriving at Narita at 10:25 AM.
However, the return flight is at 11:25 AM,
meaning less usable time on the last day compared to Incheon.

Still, I think the advantage of having a closer airport is
actually much bigger than you might expect.
Dragging your luggage for hours to get to the airport,
only to arrive and realize
you haven't even boarded your flight yet – that feeling of exhaustion...
If you travel often, you know exactly what I mean, right? 😭

4. Departures from Cheongju & Daegu

When I first searched for Cheongju,
there was a flight ticket for ~$273.
Oh? That seemed pretty good!
But when I looked closer,
the outbound flight didn't include checked baggage,
and only the return flight included 15kg.

So, I adjusted the conditions to match other airports,
and when I re-checked with 15kg round-trip included,
it was ~$297.
This is why I always
make sure to check the baggage allowance when looking for the cheapest flights.

Cheongju was about ~$74 more expensive than Incheon,
with the outbound flight at 3:50 PM,
and the return flight at 10:35 AM.
Just looking at the price and time,
Incheon was better for these dates.

However, if you're in the Chungcheong region
and can quickly get to Cheongju Airport,
you should definitely factor in the travel time to Incheon as well.
If the price difference were a bit smaller, I'd probably
choose Cheongju! 😄

For Daegu, a round-trip ticket was ~$340.
Checked baggage of 15kg was included,
with an outbound departure at 3:00 PM,
and the return flight departing at 2:20 PM.
The price difference was quite significant in this search,
so I'd probably think it over a bit more.

However, if you live near Daegu,
instead of just looking at Incheon's prices and deciding,
it makes sense to compare by adding the cost of a Daegu departure
with the transportation cost and time to get to Incheon.
That's the right way to compare, in my opinion.

5. Gimpo to Haneda

Flights departing from Gimpo arrive at Haneda Airport, you know?!
Honestly, you know Haneda Airport is much
closer to central Tokyo than Narita Airport, right?
An ANA round-trip ticket was ~$433.
Just looking at the initial price,
you'd probably think, "Wow... that's expensive!"
But departing from Gimpo and arriving at Tokyo Haneda,
and with checked baggage
including two 23kg bags, it's quite a package.

The outbound flight departs at 12:20 PM,
and the return flight leaves at 8:00 PM.
While Haneda is much more accessible
to central Tokyo than Narita,
for those whose travel time is precious,
like on a 2-night/3-day or 3-night/4-day trip,
flight tickets shouldn't be compared solely on price.

For me, if the price difference
between Incheon and Gimpo is over ~\$207,
like this time, I'd probably choose Narita, haha.
But if the price difference narrows significantly,
I'd definitely reconsider Gimpo-Haneda.

6. Tokyo Flight Deals

Comparing by departure airport this time,
I realized one important thing again.
When it comes to Tokyo flights,
just finding the cheapest number isn't enough.
You need to consider the round-trip price,
whether checked baggage is included,
what time you arrive on the first day,
and what time you depart on the last day.

And if you live outside the capital area,
you should also factor in the journey from your home to the airport
as part of your travel itinerary.
If Incheon is ~\$22 cheaper,
but it takes several hours to get to Incheon
and the transportation costs are similar,
then I'd honestly just go with the closer airport, haha.
After all, travel doesn't start when you board the plane;
it begins the moment you roll your suitcase out the door...!

I always make sure to check for discount codes at the end.

When comparing prices for the same dates this time:
Incheon was ~\$222,
Busan ~\$233,
Cheongju ~\$297,
Daegu ~\$340,
and Gimpo ~\$433.
However, my criteria for choosing
isn't always the absolute cheapest, Incheon.

If you're in the greater Seoul area, Incheon is great.
But if you're in Busan or Gyeongnam, with this price difference,
I'd likely choose to depart from Busan.
For Cheongju or Daegu too,
if special deals drop just a little more,
I wouldn't bother going all the way to Incheon
and would prefer to choose a closer airport, haha.

When searching for Tokyo flight deals,
don't just look at a few dollars difference in ticket price.
Compare the transportation costs and time to get to the airport,
baggage allowances, and arrival/departure times as well.
If the price and benefits are similar,
departing from the closest airport is always the best for me, haha!
