Japan Jumbo Lottery 2026: Your Guide to Buying & Winning
Discover how to buy Japan's thrilling Jumbo Lottery tickets in 2026, understand the different types, and learn how to check and claim your winnings for a chance at big prizes!

Every time I visit Japan, there's one souvenir I absolutely have to bring back: a lottery ticket!
While I've dabbled in various lotteries like Loto and Numbers, this time around, I made sure to grab a Jumbo Lottery ticket.
When your travel dates align, you have the exciting opportunity to purchase a Jumbo Lottery (ジャンボ宝くじ) ticket. Today, I'm going to share everything you need to know about this thrilling Japanese experience!
What is the Jumbo Lottery?
The Jumbo Lottery is a special, large-scale lottery sold only during specific, limited seasons in Japan.
Unlike regular Loto or Numbers games, the prize money for the Jumbo Lottery is typically much larger, and the best part is that both Japanese citizens and foreign visitors can purchase tickets!
Jumbo Lotteries aren't available all year; the type of lottery changes with each season.
The most famous, and often the one with the biggest payouts, is the Year-End Jumbo Lottery, which can offer a staggering grand prize of up to ~$4,666,667 USD! It's incredibly popular, and during the holiday season in Japan, you'll see long lines of people eagerly waiting to buy their tickets.

The ticket I purchased this time was for the Dream Jumbo Lottery, which was sold during the May season.
For 2026, it was available for purchase from 05/01 to 05/30, with the drawing having taken place on 06/10.
Each ticket costs ~$2 USD.
Where can you buy them?

You can purchase Jumbo Lottery tickets at designated lottery stands, known as 宝くじ売り場 (takarakuji uriba).
These stands are frequently found near train stations or in bustling commercial districts.
I usually just search for 宝くじ on Google Maps to find the nearest location, and there's almost always one close to a train station :)
Bara vs. Renban: What's the Difference?

When you go to buy your tickets, you might hear terms like "Bara" or "Renban," which can be a little confusing for first-time buyers.
**Bara (バラ)**
This is a set of 10 tickets with mixed groups and numbers. Each ticket has a unique group and number combination, making it ideal for those who want to try a variety of different number combinations.
**Renban (連番)**
This is a set of 10 tickets from the same group with consecutive numbers. For example, the last digits might run from 123450 to 123459, ensuring you have a sequence of numbers.
Choosing Renban tickets also gives you a chance at the "Before and After" prizes, which are awarded to numbers adjacent to the 1st prize winner. Plus, one ticket out of a 10-ticket Renban set is guaranteed to win the minimum prize of ~$2 USD!
Both Bara and Renban are sold as 10-ticket sets, costing ~$20 USD.
How to Purchase
When you're ready to buy, here's how you can ask in Japanese:
"Dream Jumbo Bara (or Renban) kudasai." (Dream Jumbo Bara/Renban, please.)
To buy just one ticket: "Dream Jumbo ichi-mai kudasai." (Dream Jumbo one ticket, please.)
To buy five tickets: "Dream Jumbo go-mai kudasai." (Dream Jumbo five tickets, please.)
