Interlaken Paragliding Review: Swiss Alps Flying Guide & Booking Tips
Hey fellow adventurers! If you are planning a trip to Switzerland, you already know that the views are absolutely out of this world. During my trip to Switzerland in January 2025, I stayed at the cozy Sonnenhof Hostel in Interlaken. Looking out at the snow-capped peaks, I knew I had to experience the Swiss Alps from above.
I started looking into extreme activities in the area, specifically skydiving and paragliding. Honestly, jumping out of an airplane felt a bit too terrifying for my taste, but paragliding seemed like the perfect mix of thrill and scenic beauty. Since I had tried paragliding a couple of times before, I felt confident enough to book a flight!

Fortunately, Sonnenhof Hostel had a partnership with a highly recommended local paragliding operator that offered convenient pickup services. Even though it was late January and the Swiss winter was in full swing with snowy landscapes and temperatures around 30°F, the pure excitement kept me warm.
During the van ride up to the mountain, I met my professional pilot, Noel. He was around my age, super friendly, and kept everyone laughing with his jokes, which completely took away my pre-flight jitters. Having a pilot who is both highly skilled and fun makes a massive difference!
To get to the takeoff spot at Beatenberg Amisbühl, you have to hike a short distance through a beautiful alpine village after getting out of the transport van. Don't worry about carrying the heavy gear—the professional pilots carry all of it. Your only job is to enjoy the crisp mountain air and prepare your legs for the takeoff run. The panoramic views of Interlaken from up here are absolutely breathtaking.

Safety First: The Pre-Flight Briefing
The pilots in Interlaken are highly certified experts with hundreds of successful flights under their belts. Even if you are feeling incredibly nervous, you can fully trust their expertise for a safe and exhilarating flight.
Once they meticulously set up the paraglider, they strapped me securely into the harness. Surrounded by the stunning Swiss Alps, you won't be able to resist taking photos. The pilot even brought along a GoPro to capture high-quality shots of the entire experience.
After watching a few others take off one by one, it was finally my turn. We ran down the snowy slope together, and before I knew it, we were airborne!
A quick tip on gear and personal items: make sure to dress warmly in layers. You can safely store your phone, camera, and other valuables in the pilot's backpack or leave them at your hostel so you don't risk losing them mid-air.
Paragliding over Interlaken isn't just sightseeing—it's a pure adrenaline rush. Throughout the 15 to 20-minute flight, Noel used his GoPro to capture amazing photos and videos of us gliding through the sky.
If you want to keep these memories forever (and let's be honest, they make the ultimate social media posts!), you can purchase the digital photo and video package directly from your pilot after landing.
After about 15 to 20 minutes of soaring, we made a smooth landing right in the middle of Interlaken at Höhematte Park. Conveniently, this park is only a 5-minute walk back to Sonnenhof Hostel! Most operators land here, making it incredibly easy to head straight back to your accommodation.

Once we touched down at Höhematte Park, Noel transferred all the GoPro photos and videos directly to my phone. I gladly paid the extra cost for the media package—it was worth every penny!
Pro Tip!
If you are an iPhone user, the pilot can AirDrop the files to you instantly. If you use Android, they can easily send them to you via email or a download link, so you can share your flight with friends and family right away.
Höhematte Park is gorgeous year-round. In spring and summer, it's blanketed with colorful flowers. While winter lacks the flowers, it rewards you with a clear, majestic view of the Jungfrau peak. We were incredibly lucky with the clear weather on our flight day!
Paragliding is hands down the best way to witness the sheer beauty of Switzerland. Every dollar spent on the flight and the photo package was worth it for a lifetime memory. I highly recommend adding this to your Swiss itinerary!
If you're looking for even more extreme thrills, Interlaken also offers skydiving. Keep in mind that skydiving is roughly double the price of paragliding (usually around $430 USD). But if you've always wanted to free-fall for 45 seconds over the Alps, it's an unbeatable experience!

The takeoff point is the Alpine village of Beatenberg Amisbühl, which requires a short walk after getting off the vehicle. The landing point is Höhematte Park, located in the center of Interlaken.
The paragliding flight takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes. After the flight, you will land at Höhematte Park, which is a 5-minute walk from Sonnenhof Hostel.
You can purchase the photos and videos taken with a GoPro for an additional fee. iPhone users can receive them directly on-site immediately after landing, while users of other devices can receive them via email.
All belongings, including phones and cameras, can be left at your accommodation or temporarily stored in the pilot's harness area. Simply ask the pilot before the flight to safely store your valuables.
