A Highly Recommended Spot in Taiwan to Visit with Kids
Written & Photographed by ©Hi-Bubu

Are you planning a **trip to Taiwan with your kids**?
Since Taiwan has so many urban destinations, you might be wondering
where you can find the perfect spots to enjoy with the little ones.
Today, I’m excited to share a fantastic spot that animal lovers of all ages—
especially those traveling with kids—will absolutely adore:
the amazing Lanyang Flora and Fauna Kingdom in Yilan!
First, let's start with some **basic info about Lanyang Flora and Fauna Kingdom**
and how we made our way there.

Lanyang Flora and Fauna Kingdom (蘭陽動植物王國) |
Opening Hours: 09:30 AM – 05:00 PM Closed: Open daily (No closing days) Getting There: Recommended to take a day bus tour Admission: Adults 280 TWD, Children 180 TWD |
Lanyang Flora and Fauna Kingdom is a charming little zoo located
about an hour's drive away from downtown Taipei.
📍 It’s open every single day until 5:00 PM, with no closing days.
While you can certainly get there by driving or using public transportation,
we found it a bit tricky, so we decided to book
💡 a Yilan day trip bus tour for a much smoother journey.
Even with a bus tour, you get about 90 minutes of free time to explore,
which felt like plenty of time to see everything.
You can check out the tour details right below:
Check out the Lanyang Flora and Fauna Kingdom Tour here

Just a heads-up, the tour only includes your bus transportation,
so you’ll need to purchase your admission tickets on-site.
📌 Tickets are 280 TWD for adults and 180 TWD for children.

Your tickets also come with various attached coupons!
These include free goat feed coupons, cafe discounts, and more.
We highly recommend using a translation app like Papago
to check what they are so you don't miss out on any of the perks!

Lanyang Flora and Fauna Kingdom isn't massive,
but it's home to dozens of different species.
Kids can feed them, gently pet them, and truly interact with the animals—
making it an absolute hit with the little ones!
Now, let me share our experience of **exploring the inside**
of Lanyang Flora and Fauna Kingdom.

As soon as you step inside, you'll spot the souvenir shop.
They have so many adorable animal-themed items,
and the prices are actually quite reasonable!
However, since there are plenty of animals to see and shows to catch inside,
we recommend doing your sightseeing first and shopping later.

The very first animals we encountered
were **colorful parrots and tiny, adorable rodents.**
Watching the vibrant birds flocking together and fluttering around,
as well as their playful, wobbly movements, was absolutely mesmerizing.
The tiny rodents, in particular, were incredibly cute—
It was enough to completely captivate the kids' attention.

In the next pavilion, we got to see some raccoons!
It was actually my first time seeing a raccoon in person, which was so cool.
What was especially fun was that we could feed them
through a tiny gap in the enclosure.
Watching them take the food was absolutely adorable!

On the way to the next pavilion, there's a small lake
where more than 10 swans reside.
✅ There's also a swan show here around 11:00 AM,
where you can see these majestic birds flying, so
I highly recommend timing your visit to catch it.

Passing the lake into the next area,
the vibe felt a bit like the Amazon rainforest.
There were so many rare creatures that you don't easily see elsewhere,
like unique fish and tropical birds.

It was so fascinating to see such unique animals,
from an anteater walking on a pathway right above our heads
to a slow-moving sloth hanging out.
One quick thing to keep in mind: the anteaters overhead
sometimes decide to pee without warning!
It's a good idea to keep one eye on the sky while walking through.

In the next area, you finally get to meet the mascots of Lanyang Animal Kingdom,
the lovely capybaras!
There was a surprisingly large pack of capybaras,
ranging from tiny babies to some pretty big ones.
They'll follow you around if you have treats,
and because they're incredibly gentle, they get along wonderfully with kids.
Here's a quick pro-tip: the capybaras will only
stick by your side if you have food.
So if you want to snap that perfect souvenir photo,
I highly recommend purchasing some feed.

Right next to them were some friends just as cute as the capybaras—
the sika deer you see in the photo!
With their puppy-like charm and big, sparkling eyes,
they were absolutely adorable.
Be sure to try feeding them too!

Heading out to the final outdoor zone of the Animal Kingdom,
you'll find some larger animals.
From alpacas, kangaroos, goats, to sheep,
you'll get to meet animal friends you never would have
expected to find in Taiwan!

This is the area where you can use the food coupon
attached to your admission ticket.
You can exchange it for a bundle of hay like the one in the photo on the right,
so try feeding it piece by piece to the alpacas or goats
while snapping some memorable photos!

When you're busy meeting so many adorable animal friends,
the 90-minute limit honestly flies by in the blink of an eye.
But if you get a little tired along the way,
or if someone in your group isn't the biggest animal lover,
don't worry! There's a cozy 'Capy Cafe' located right outside,
where you can grab a refreshing drink and take a relaxing break.
Pro tip: You can use the discount coupon
attached to your admission ticket here, so don't miss out!

At Lanyang Animal Kingdom, you can meet far more
diverse animal friends than you'd ever expect!
Plus, getting to feed them and touch them from such an incredibly close distance
made the experience feel so much more meaningful and special.
Since opportunities like this are so rare,
I saw so many families with young kids—
both excited tourists and locals alike.
If you're planning a family trip to Taiwan with your little ones
and trying to decide on the perfect itinerary,
I highly recommend adding Lanyang Animal Kingdom to your list!
Also, booking the day-tour bus below is a super easy and comfortable way

The adult admission fee is 280 TWD, and for children, it is 180 TWD. The bus tour only includes transportation, so admission tickets must be purchased separately on-site.
The swan show takes place around 11:00 AM at the inner lake area. You can see giant swans flying around, so we recommend visiting on time to catch the show.
