Parents with kids who adore insects,
you've probably already explored Yongin Insect Theme Park and Yeoju Insect Museum, right?
Well, get ready for some exciting news! Hwaseong now has its very own Hwaseong Insect Village, and we just had to check it out with the kids last weekend.
Having only recently opened, the entire facility was incredibly clean and refreshing.
Let me share some detailed tips and our honest review of our visit!

From the choices (bottled water, canned coffee, kids' drink), we picked one bottled water for the kids and a canned coffee to share with my husband.
We booked the Sunday 2 PM eco-class and arrived a bit early, around 12:50 PM.
Taking a leisurely stroll around Hwaseong Insect Village before the class worked out perfectly for our timing and flow.
Hwaseong Insect Village Insect Ecological Hall
As soon as we stepped into the Insect Ecological Hall, my insect-loving son's eyes lit up!
From popular stag beetles and Hercules beetles to millipedes, giant African land snails, white-spotted flower beetles, and even wriggly larvae!
There's a diverse array of creatures you can touch and interact with directly.
I even bravely touched a millipede, and its texture was so springy that if I'd closed my eyes, I wouldn't have guessed it was a living creature!
There's a dedicated hand-washing station in front of the restrooms, which is super convenient.
There's also an AR insect drawing activity, so my daughter colored a ladybug. My son, however, found it a bit too childish now... haha!
You can also purchase insects, specimens, and necessary breeding supplies directly on-site.
Butterfly Greenhouse
If you participate in the Naver receipt review event, you can receive a feed set.
With your feed set in hand, head to the Butterfly Greenhouse where you can feed guinea pigs, rabbits, and carp.
While the Butterfly Greenhouse isn't massive,
it's thoughtfully arranged and packed with fun.
You can even spot a few reptiles!
Weekend Eco-Class & Hercules Beetle Larvae Gift
The absolute highlight of our visit was definitely the eco-class.
During the 30-minute class, we got to touch Hercules beetle larvae and blue-tongued skinks directly.
The instructor also provided such insightful and engaging explanations about Hercules beetles that even I, as an adult, learned so many new things.
If you have an insect-loving child, booking the eco-class is an absolute must!
What's more, Hercules beetle larvae are included with the children's admission ticket!
You get to fill a larval bottle with sawdust yourself, then receive your larva on the way out of the Butterfly Greenhouse.
We asked a lot of questions, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful.
My kids were so disappointed when the larvae they'd caught themselves didn't pupate last time, so I really hope this one succeeds!
After completing the class, exhibition viewing, and feeding experience, we spent about 2 hours there.
It was a productive and budget-friendly way to enjoy a weekend afternoon.
The facilities are clean, and there are many child-friendly activities, so I think we'll be visiting again soon for another weekend outing.
They're even planning to open a strawberry farming experience in 2028.
If you're looking for a weekend getaway with your insect-loving child, I highly recommend visiting Hwaseong Insect Village!
It's also a fantastic indoor option for rainy days or when it's too hot or cold for outdoor activities.

Hwaseong Insect Village operates on weekends from 10 AM to 6 PM, and weekdays are closed. Therefore, you cannot visit on weekdays.
A child's admission ticket is ~$10. This price includes participation in an ecology class and a Hercules beetle larva gift.
Ecology classes are held on weekends at 11 AM, 2 PM, and 4 PM, each lasting 30 minutes. During the class, you can directly touch Hercules beetle larvae and Blue-tongued skinks.
An adult admission ticket costs ~$7 and includes one beverage. You can choose one beverage from bottled water, canned coffee, or a children's drink.
