My Stay at Hotel Regina
When you're planning a trip to Barcelona, with so many incredible sights to see and tempting shops to explore, choosing the right accommodation location can feel like a huge decision.
If it's your first time visiting Barcelona and you want to move around the city effortlessly, then you absolutely need to look for a hotel near Plaça de Catalunya.
Today, I'm excited to share my review of Hotel Regina, where I happily spent three nights.
1. Why I Recommend Hotels Near Plaça de Catalunya
When I'm picking a hotel in Barcelona, I prioritize convenience for getting around in multiple directions over being close to just one specific tourist spot.
By that standard, Plaça de Catalunya is incredibly convenient.
Head south from the square, and you're immediately on Las Ramblas. Go north, and you're on Passeig de Gràcia.
Passeig de Gràcia is a must-visit during your trip, with tons of shopping and iconic Gaudi architectural masterpieces like Casa Batlló and Casa Milà.
What's more, this area is super easy for airport transfers. The Aerobús takes you directly to Plaça de Catalunya, saving you the hassle of lugging heavy suitcases through multiple metro changes.
Being right in the city center also means you can explore in the morning, pop back to the hotel for a quick rest, and then head out for your evening plans. And the biggest advantage? You don't have to carry all your shopping bags around all day – just drop them off at the hotel and continue your adventure!
Hotel Regina is only about a 2-minute walk from Plaça de Catalunya.
Its prime location was the main reason I chose this hotel. After getting off the airport bus, I didn't have to drag my suitcase far, and it made planning my sightseeing and shopping routes incredibly easy.
The hotel itself is a renovated classic European building. It doesn't have the ultra-modern vibe of newer hotels, but when you step into the lobby, the domed ceiling and grand staircase give it a wonderfully classic feel that I absolutely loved.
Even though it's an older building, there's a convenient elevator, so no worries about lugging bags up stairs.
2. My Review of Hotel Regina's Double Room
📍 HOTEL REGINA BARCELONA

I stayed in a double room that featured a lovely balcony.
The room itself wasn't huge. If you've stayed in city hotels in Europe before, it's about what you'd expect, but there was still enough space to comfortably open up two suitcases.
Honestly, if I can spread out two suitcases, I'm more than satisfied! Haha.
The room had a comfortable bed, a TV, and a reasonably spacious table below it. A mini-fridge, bathrobes, and slippers were also provided.
One unique feature was the glass water bottles in the room instead of single-use plastic bottles. Each floor has a water station where you can refill your bottle, and the water tasted perfectly fine, just like filtered water. It was great to be able to grab water anytime, even late at night.
The bathroom, like the room, wasn't huge. However, the overall cleanliness was satisfying, and I personally loved the scent of the amenities—a subtle, herbal fragrance! The tile design also perfectly matched the hotel's classic ambiance.
That said, there was one minor inconvenience in the room I stayed in: the shower drain was quite slow.
It was a bit frustrating while showering!
I can't say if this is true for all rooms, so I wouldn't generalize it as a hotel-wide issue, but the drainage was definitely the most disappointing aspect of my stay.
Conversely, my satisfaction with the location, cleanliness, and room atmosphere was high, so overall, I would absolutely consider staying here again.
By the way, the hotel's ground floor is incredibly beautiful during the day, but I didn't manage to snap any photos... You should definitely check out pictures on various platforms; it's gorgeous.
Anyway, when I checked arbitrary dates for a weekday in November, the price for a double room was roughly in the mid-~$100 range, as shown below:

Keep in mind that hotel prices can vary based on the booking time, room conditions, and refund policies, even for the same dates.
That's why I always recommend opening 2-3 different platforms and comparing the final prices before booking.
3. Searching for a Hotel in Barcelona?
When choosing a Barcelona hotel, I highly recommend investing a little more in location.
Especially if it's your first visit, booking accommodation around Plaça de Catalunya will make your airport transfers, sightseeing, and shopping routes much smoother.
While the slow drainage in my room was a minor drawback, Hotel Regina's advantages made it a highly satisfying Barcelona hotel overall.
To sum it up:
If it's your first trip to Barcelona and convenient sightseeing is your top priority, Hotel Regina is definitely worth comparing prices for.
I strongly suggest adding it to your comparison list alongside other hotels near Plaça de Catalunya!

I actually wanted to book this one, but it was fully booked for my travel dates, so I couldn't! It's clearly very popular, and the prices tend to be a little higher than where I stayed (though it varies).
Next time I visit Barcelona, I'll definitely check both Hotel Regina and this one.

This hotel caught my eye because it has the highest ratings on Google Maps, so I figured there must be a good reason. However, the room interior wasn't quite my style, so I ended up passing on it. Still, the reviews are fantastic, so it's worth checking out!

The author experienced a slow drainage in the shower booth of their room. However, due to high satisfaction with the location, cleanliness, and room ambiance, they stated that they would generally be willing to stay again.
