Why We Recommend It

There are five main reasons why I highly recommend Hotel Préalpina:

When you're searching for a hotel with a proper Lake Geneva view in Switzerland, prices can quickly escalate. This hotel offers lake-view rooms at a relatively reasonable price, which was a huge plus.

I initially looked for accommodations in Montreux, but finding a decent place for three people would have cost over ~$207.

Hotel Préalpina's basic rooms start from ~$104 to ~$110, it's a 4-star hotel, and the facilities are clean and well-maintained.

✔️ Free Parking

Since we were on a road trip, free parking was quite important to us. Switzerland can be expensive, and parking fees can add up.

✔️ Friendly Staff

The staff members were incredibly friendly. When I asked for directions for trekking through the Lavaux vineyards, they marked the route directly on a map for me.

Thanks to them, we explored the area perfectly without needing a guided tour.

Just walk down from the hotel and cross one road, as shown in the picture below, and you're right in the vineyards!

Location & Transportation

The hotel is located in Chexbres, within the Lavaux region, midway between Lausanne and Montreux.

It's about a 5-10 minute walk from Chexbres-Village station, making it accessible even if you're traveling by train.

However, as you can see in the photos, there's a bit of an incline. You'll need to drag your luggage up this slope. ㅠㅠ

A great view often means being situated on a bit of a slope, right?

That's why I particularly recommend it for those on a road trip, like us.

That said, it's not exclusively for car travelers; it's not too far from the station, so if you're traveling light, it's definitely worth considering.

Rooms

I booked a family room because I was traveling with my parents, making us three people.

The biggest reason I chose this room was for the separated living spaces.

It wasn't quite two separate rooms, but more like a 1.5-room setup with a distinct living area and bedroom.

My parents slept in the two single beds in the bedroom, while I unfolded the sofa bed in the living room.

Having individual spaces rather than all three of us in one room was fantastic for a family trip.

And, of course, the absolute highlight of this room was...

The Lake Geneva view!

When you open the window, you're greeted with a panoramic vista of Lake Geneva, the mountains across the lake, and the Lavaux vineyards directly below.

The view wasn't just great for photos; it was simply wonderful to sit and soak it all in.

We even had a friendly competition over who got to enjoy the window view the most! haha

I also compared prices for a family room in early October 2026, and Agoda offered the best deal.

Vineyard Trekking

Another advantage of Hotel Préalpina is its prime location for exploring the Lavaux vineyards.

I initially looked into guided tours of the Lavaux vineyards, but my timing didn't work out, so I opted for a self-guided trek.

Following the path the staff member marked on the map, I walked through the vineyards, and the scenery, with Lake Geneva peeking through, was absolutely stunning.

It's about 0.37 miles from the hotel to Domaine Bovard and roughly 1 mile to Lavaux Vinorama, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll around the area.

During our stay here, we enjoyed trekking through the Lavaux vineyards and also visited Montreux.

Overall Thoughts

While Hotel Préalpina isn't a lavish or extravagant hotel, I believe it offers high satisfaction if you choose it for its Lake Geneva views, proximity to the Lavaux vineyards, free parking, and excellent value.

Especially if you're exploring Switzerland by rental car or looking for a relaxing overnight stay in the Lavaux region with your family, definitely compare prices for this gem :)
