Tokyo hotel prices are soaring, but Hotel Mystays Nishi Shinjuku offers unbeatable value, safety, and comfort for solo travelers right in the city's heart.

Hotel Mystays Nishi Shinjuku Review
The Perfect Solo Stay in Tokyo
Lately, hotel prices in Tokyo have skyrocketed, almost rivaling major European cities in 2026.
It's putting a serious dent in travel budgets.
This is especially true in a bustling hub like Shinjuku, where finding a decent room for under ~$77 a night feels like finding a needle in a haystack.
For solo travelers, these soaring accommodation costs can be incredibly daunting.
Today, I want to share a hidden gem from my recent solo trip to Tokyo: Hotel Mystays Nishi Shinjuku. It completely won me over with its unbeatable location and fantastic value!

Hotel Mystays Nishi Shinjuku |
Check-in: 3:00 PM~ Check-out: ~11:00 AM Location: 5-minute walk to Shinjuku Nishiguchi & Seibu-Shinjuku Stations Accommodation Tax: 100 JPY per person/night Weekday Rates: From ~$77 Weekend Rates: From ~$115 |
📍 Hotel Mystays Nishi Shinjuku boasts a phenomenal location.
You have four major stations within a 10-minute walking radius: Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku Nishiguchi, Seibu-Shinjuku, and the massive Shinjuku Station itself.
Despite this prime real estate, you can often snag rooms starting around ~$77 on weekdays and ~$115 on weekends.
Its biggest draw is undoubtedly this budget-friendly pricing paired with maximum convenience.
I booked this hotel precisely for the value and location.
Even when traveling solo, I prefer having my own space over shared dorms or capsule hotels.
When I was booking, Mystays had a room available from Sunday to Monday for just around ~$77.

Having stayed in this neighborhood on a previous Tokyo trip, I knew the area well.
I knew it was packed with fantastic local izakayas and restaurants, and it's just a stone's throw from the vibrant Kabukicho district.
So, booking this spot was an absolute no-brainer for me.

If you're traveling alone—especially as a female traveler—safety might be a bigger concern than budget.
Rest assured, this is primarily a commercial district filled with office buildings and other hotels, making it a very safe area to walk around.
While there are charming izakayas tucked into the alleys, most close before midnight. I didn't encounter rowdy crowds or excessive noise late at night!
I always compare a few sites before booking to get the best deal.

Next, let's talk about the lobby and the check-in experience.

The lobby is located on the 2nd floor.
Because it shares space with the breakfast dining area and luggage storage, it does feel a bit compact.
Check-in was a breeze—just present your passport and reservation.
📍 Note that a standard Tokyo accommodation tax of 100 JPY per person, per night applies.

One of the perks I loved was the free amenity bar in the lobby.
You can grab whatever you need: cotton swabs, shower caps, cleansing oil, razors, and more. It's incredibly convenient.

They also offer luggage storage before check-in and after check-out, so you can explore unburdened on your final day.
Since it was just me, I booked the most affordable option: a Standard Single Room.
However, it seems they weren't fully booked that night, because I was pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to a Standard Double Room!
(They upgraded me automatically without me even having to ask.)

Unlike a standard cookie-cutter business hotel, the room layout was actually quite unique.
There was a cozy sofa tucked into an alcove, and the bed wasn't positioned directly next to the window, which gave the space a different feel.
While it's still a Japanese business hotel (meaning space is at a premium), there was a decent amount of walking room in the hallway area.

For privacy, the lower half of the window had a frosted sticker applied, and it only opened a tiny crack for ventilation.
If you peek out the top half, you get a pretty cool city view, so it was a slight bummer that the bottom was frosted over.

Even though I was a party of one, the room was prepped with amenities for two.
The double bed was spacious and incredibly plush—I slept like a rock.
The little sofa and table in the corner were perfect for kicking back with some late-night convenience store snacks.

In-room basics included coffee, tea, an electric kettle, and hangers.
Nothing overly fancy, but everything you need for a comfortable stay.

The mini-fridge, trash can, and a small stool were neatly tucked under the right-side desk, keeping the walkway clear—a thoughtful touch if you're staying for a few days.

The bathroom layout was also delightfully unconventional.
Through the door near the entrance, you first find the toilet and sink. Then, set further back, is a dedicated wet room with a deep soaking tub.
Having a deep tub to soak my tired legs in after a long day of walking was pure bliss.
Because it was tucked away in the back, it felt like a private little spa retreat.

Finally, the bathroom came fully stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and toothbrushes, so you really don't need to pack your own toiletries.
They also provided both small and large towels, which was super handy for morning and evening showers.
My biggest takeaway after staying at Hotel Mystays Nishi Shinjuku?
"For this price, in this location, with this level of quality—you can't help but be highly satisfied."
It's incredibly close to multiple Shinjuku stations, easy to walk over to Kabukicho for nightlife, yet wonderfully quiet when it's time to sleep.
It really ticks all the boxes for a solo explorer.
