Looking for the perfect countryside escape in Korea? Read our honest review of Hoshidam, a beautifully designed private villa pension in scenic Damyang.

I recently had to travel down south for a wedding in Gwangju, so we decided to spend a night in Damyang.
It was the perfect excuse for a weekend getaway! (Though wow, the drive from Seoul was seriously long! 😂)
🏡 While looking for places to stay in Damyang, my husband compared quite a few spots,
but he said it was surprisingly hard to find somewhere that ticked all our boxes.

That's when we stumbled upon Hoshidam Private Villa. It looked incredibly clean, had fantastic reviews, and was reasonably priced, so we booked it right away!
✔️ From the location and overall vibe to the honest pros & cons we experienced firsthand,
and even booking tips and pricing—here is my completely honest review
of Hoshidam Private Villa, a stay I'd highly recommend for your next Damyang trip!

We made sure to pull over at a highway rest stop to fuel up on delicious Korean street food snacks
before hitting the road again! 🚗

Since it was a Friday departure and I didn't finish work until 4:30 PM, by the time we arrived,
it was already well past 9:30 PM.
We quickly realized that not many restaurants in Damyang stay open late.
The local whole chicken place we originally planned to visit was already closed 😭
After some frantic searching, we found an open spot, and it turned out to be absolutely delicious!
(More on that below! 👇)
📍 375-25 Churyeong-ro, Yong-myeon, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Hoshidam)

The photo above was taken the next morning,
but we actually arrived late at night, around 10:10 PM.
The host was amazing and kept checking in on our arrival time.
Even though it was raining, they came out to meet us and helped guide us to our villa,
which made a wonderful first impression! (The host is incredibly kind.)

The vibe the moment we stepped inside—pure magic! 🤍
It was such a cozy, aesthetic space, absolutely perfect for a relaxing getaway.

With a bed, a large round table, a sofa, air conditioning, and a TV,
it had everything we needed to feel right at home.

🍳 There is also a small kitchenette for light cooking.
It came fully stocked with dishes, cups, pots, pans, and an electric kettle. Everything was very clean! We ended up using the kettle to make cup noodles to go with our late-night chicken.

The table was spacious and the sofa was plush, making for a very comfortable meal.
But come to think of it... we actually ended up sitting on the floor to eat... 😅
Why do Koreans buy sofas only to sit on the floor and lean against them? Haha! 😂
(Please tell me I'm not the only one...)

There was a nightstand and a TV right next to the bed,
though we didn't end up watching any TV.
The bed itself was quite comfortable, but the pillows weren't really my style. They sank in completely when I lay down, which personally
felt a bit uncomfortable.
I'm a very sensitive sleeper, so if you're like me, you might want to bring your own pillow just in case.
(My husband, however, fell fast asleep instantly after that long drive! 😴)

🚿 The bathroom was unexpectedly spacious and clean,
with plenty of fluffy towels and fully stocked amenities. (I used the body wash and it was actually pretty good!)

Since we arrived late at night and it was raining, we couldn't try it out ourselves,
but I hear so many people love relaxing here
in the jacuzzi and outdoor bath.
🛀 I snapped a photo of the outdoor bath rules and safety tips,
so make sure to check them out if you're planning a visit!

The terrace area is quite spacious and has a nice table,
making it the perfect spot to unwind and chill when the weather is nice.

There was also a closet to hang up our clothes, so we settled in and decided to eat our late dinner first.

But as soon as we set the chicken down on the table, we heard a cat meowing from somewhere...
.
.
.

They seemed like regular residents who get lots of treats from guests here.
I really wanted to let them in, but I held back that day... but still!

Oh my, that late-night local market-style fried chicken was absolutely divine...
The skin was incredibly crispy and the meat was so juicy! 🥹
(If you're arriving late like me and need a place to eat, leave a private comment and I'll share the spot with you!)

The reason I highly recommend Damyang Hosidam Pension
is because it's so wonderful to take a stroll in this lush, green garden,
and the overall vibe of the place was just absolutely perfect.
🍃🌿🌱

As you can see in the photos,
I bet the pictures would have turned out even more stunning on a bright, sunny day.

✔️ We stayed in room S202,
and they actually offer free breakfast service here!
(They mention they serve simple pastries, salad, and more.)

"What is breakfast anyway? I'm way too tired~" we thought.
But as we were politely saying our goodbyes to the owner to head out,
they insisted we have some coffee and hand-poured a fresh Americano for us. So sweet! haha

With a refreshing iced coffee brewed by the host in hand,
we're off to Juknokwon! ~!!
Since our main purpose was attending a wedding, we only used it as a place to sleep,
but I think it is an absolutely perfect place
to set aside a whole day just to unwind and relax.

If you are looking for a peaceful getaway in Damyang, complete with a fully-equipped kitchen, pristine bathroom, outdoor bath, and a spacious garden,
I highly recommend the Hosidam private villa. 🏡
