Today, I want to introduce you to a culinary gem representing Damyang in Jeollanam-do—
a premium traditional Korean restaurant specializing in Tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties),
the famous Namdo Yedam.
Just recently, I took my mom on a lovely day trip
to Damyang for some quality bonding time.

It is the absolute perfect spot to visit with parents
or your significant other, making it a top-tier recommendation
I can confidently share with you!

They have a spacious, well-organized parking lot,
making it incredibly easy to park.

Having zero parking stress set a wonderful,
relaxing tone for our Damyang getaway right from the start.
Spacious and Elegant Atmosphere

True to its reputation as an officially designated restaurant
for the World Bamboo Fair, Namdo Yedam boasts a highly
modern and upscale aesthetic from the outside in.

The interior is quite spacious,
yet the tables are spaced generously apart,
allowing for a private and incredibly comfortable dining experience.
The warm, subtle lighting and clean bamboo-inspired
decor put a huge smile on my mom's face.

There's also plenty of room
to accommodate larger groups.

It's a highly recommended spot for couples
looking to enjoy a romantic date night
on a special day.
Recommended Menu at Namdo Yedam
This restaurant strictly adheres to the traditional method
of mincing meat 100% by hand.
Because they don't grind it with machines, the juiciness
and texture are on a whole different level!
Here are their three most popular signature menus.

Half-and-Half Tteokgalbi Feast (Recommended)
The ultimate crowd-pleaser that lets you taste
both premium Korean beef and pork.
This is the one we ordered!
Hanwoo Beef Tteokgalbi Feast
A signature dish that uses 100% female Hanwoo beef
to maximize its naturally deep, tender,
and savory flavors.
Handon Pork Tteokgalbi Feast
A popular and budget-friendly option made with
100% local Korean pork, grilled to perfection—
crispy on the outside and incredibly juicy on the inside.
The Half-and-Half Tteokgalbi Table Spread
We went ahead and ordered the Half-and-Half Tteokgalbi Feast
to get the best of both worlds.

Before long, a clever serving robot rolled over,
loaded with a colorful array of side dishes.

Grilled immediately over real charcoal,
a deep smoky aroma teased my nose
the moment it arrived at the table.

Marinated in a natural fruit sauce for two days,
it wasn't overly sweet or overpowering,
but instead had a subtle, exquisite savory flavor.

The Hanwoo (Korean beef) tteokgalbi was so tender
it literally melted in my mouth without even needing to chew.

The Handon (Korean pork) tteokgalbi was the absolute definition of crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside,
with rich, savory juices bursting forth with every single bite
paired with a wonderfully chewy texture.

Since the natural, satisfying bite of the meat was so well preserved,
even my mother, a true foodie, couldn't stop praising it
as a must-visit dining spot in Damyang.

It also comes served with Daetongbap (bamboo rice),
cooked directly inside Damyang's famous local bamboo.

The accompanying Jeolla-do style side dishes
(including beef tartare, gamtae seaweed, mushroom delicacies, and mustard leaf kimchi)
were incredibly clean, elegant, and not overpowering at all,
elevating the rich flavors of the tteokgalbi to another level.
Service and Value
Even though it was the peak lunch hour and the restaurant was absolutely packed,
the staff was incredibly prompt
and highly attentive.

Despite the rush, they carefully checked in on us several times
to see if we needed any refills on the side dishes.
Whether you are hosting a formal gathering, planning a special trip with your parents,
or looking to impress your partner on a special date,
this place is 200% worth visiting.
Quick Summary & Will I Return?
The truly defining feature of Namdo Yedam
is definitely their 100% hand-prepped meat and
gentle, fruit-marinated seasoning.
Because they have mastered the perfect balance of subtle, clean flavors,
it's a crowd-pleaser that anyone of any age
will absolutely fall in love with.

I am definitely planning to return here
for another wonderful Damyang date night
with my wife in the future.
Family gatherings are a given, but if you want to enjoy
a beautifully presented, atmospheric meal with someone you love,
you honestly couldn't find
a better choice than this.
Great Nearby Spots to Visit
Once you've finished your delicious meal,
I highly recommend exploring a scenic route
to fully soak in Damyang's lush, green nature.
Located near Namdo Yedam are Damyang's iconic Juknokwon Bamboo Forest,
the stunning tree-lined tunnel of Gwanbangjerim Forest,
and the wonderfully exotic Metasequoia Road.
They are all located very close by.
If you wrap up a hearty, satisfying meal
with a relaxing stroll through the fresh bamboo forest,
you will easily complete the perfect
and romantic Damyang date itinerary!
Insider Tips

Since wait times can get quite long during peak hours
on weekends and holidays, I recommend visiting right after the afternoon break
or well before the last order at 8:00 PM
to enjoy your meal without any rush.
If it's your first time, you absolutely must try
the half-and-half tteokgalbi set, which lets you taste both
the premium beef (Hanwoo) and pork (Handon) options!

On my way out, I noticed a great selection
of local treats that would make perfect gifts.

I couldn't resist picking up a few snacks for myself!
