Hey everyone, it's Bamkki!
Remember when those whirlwind weekend trips to Japan, often dubbed 'night goblin' trips, were all the rage? You'd finish work on Friday and jet off for a quick getaway.
No vacation days, but a serious craving for international travel? These 3-day, 2-night itineraries were perfect, right?
The biggest hurdle, though, was often the arrival time – landing in Tokyo's Haneda Airport around 1 AM. Tokyo hotels are already pricey, and spending money for just a few hours of sleep felt like a waste. That's when I discovered the perfect solution: a one-night stay at a natural hot spring sauna near Haneda Airport!
Imagine this: you land, soak in a warm onsen, catch some Z's, enjoy a hearty breakfast, and kick off your Tokyo adventure bright and early. Here's my ultimate Tokyo travel hack!
My honest, self-funded review of Heiwajima Onsen 👇

1. Arriving Late at Night at Haneda Airport?

To maximize my vacation days, I decided to take a flight right after work on Friday.
As many of you might know, Peach Aviation flights often land at Haneda Airport past midnight.
So, my options were:
① Take a bus to the city and check into a hotel (expensive for just a few hours)
② Sleep at the airport (a surefire way to start your trip exhausted)
That's when I remembered an onsen just a 15-minute shuttle ride from Haneda Airport! I'd visited it once in my twenties.
It includes a place to sleep, a bath, and even breakfast, all for around ~$32! Since Tokyo flights and hotels are usually the most expensive in Japan, this was a fantastic option to save some money.

2. Natural Hot Spring Heiwajima: Essential Information
📍 Natural Hot Spring Heiwajima
Japan 〒143-0006 Tokyo, Ota City, Heiwajima, 1-chōme−1−1 ビッグファン平和島2F
Natural Hot Spring Heiwajima is located on the second floor of the Big Fun building. It's close to Keikyu Heiwajima Station, and with the shuttle service from Haneda Airport, getting there and back is super convenient!

Even though I arrived late at night and most other shops were closed, the entrance was brightly lit, so it didn't feel scary or unsafe at all.

This isn't just any hot spring; it's a saline spring that gushes from 6,560 feet underground! They say it creates a protective film on your skin, providing long-lasting moisture. And honestly, after my bath, my skin felt incredibly smooth! 🌟

While it's primarily an onsen, it's also like a Korean jjimjilbang (public bathhouse) with a manga comic corner and a sofa + TV lounge, so there are plenty of ways to pass the time.
It's generally open 24 hours, but keep in mind that some facilities might not operate in the early morning hours.

Booking Precautions
✔️Booking date is based on the shuttle bus boarding date.
*If you arrive at the airport on 07/07 and board the shuttle after midnight on 07/08, book for 07/08.
✔️Guests with tattoos are generally not allowed.
(However, if your tattoo is within 4 x 5.5 inches, you may be able to use the facilities by covering it with a tattoo cover sticker.)
→ I (Bamkki) had a small tattoo, about a 1.5-inch diameter on my ankle, and I used the facilities without covering it.
4. My Real Experience at Heiwajima Onsen Near Haneda Airport
My Peach Aviation flight was delayed by an hour even before departure, so I landed past 1 AM.

It was a bit of a rush, but I managed to catch the 1:40 AM shuttle. During the approximately 15-minute ride, they played a short informational video on the bus.
The shuttle I took had 'Big Fun' written on it, making it easy to spot. However, the shuttle might not always be the same, so it's a good idea to confirm with the driver, "Heiwajima?" before boarding!

There are luggage lockers at the onsen entrance, so I first took out what I needed and stored my suitcase (luggage storage is free).

After checking my ticket at the front desk, I headed to the baths for a quick soak and wash. Then, feeling tired, I went straight to the lounge ~_~

There are several types of lounges, including a Relaxation & Women-Only Lounge on the same floor as the lockers, and a Premium Lounge (paid) on the third floor.

Everyone was asleep, so I couldn't take photos, but I've included an official image from their website.
Be warned: some people snore incredibly loudly, so definitely bring earplugs ^_^. While it's certainly not as comfortable as a hotel bed, it's a great value option for catching a few hours of sleep.

A few hours later (not the 'next day,' as it felt!), breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM.
I believe you can choose between Western or Japanese style. After a refreshing onsen bath, everything tastes delicious! 😋

To start your full Tokyo exploration, you'll need to head to a nearby station. Buses regularly operate to Keikyu Heiwajima Station or JR Omori Station.
The bus schedules for these two stations are different, so be sure to check the timetable and get your ticket from the front desk!
Now, let's kick off your Tokyo adventure! ⭐
The reservation date should be based on the day you board the shuttle bus. Even if you arrive at the airport on the 7th, if you board the shuttle after midnight on the 8th, you must book for the 8th.
The Welcome Course includes a late-night shuttle bus from Haneda Airport to the onsen, breakfast, and a 3-piece merchandise set. You can also use the shuttle bus from the onsen to a nearby station the next day.
Generally, guests with tattoos are restricted from using the onsen. However, if the tattoo is small (within 10cm x 14cm), you can enter by covering it with a tattoo cover sticker.
Regular shuttle buses operate from the onsen to Keikyu Heiwajima Station and JR Omori Station. Since the operating hours for the two buses are different, please check the timetable and receive a ticket at the front desk before boarding.
