Heidelberg is a popular day trip destination from Frankfurt, Germany!

While I personally traveled by bus, I highly recommend taking the train. It's a quick 1 hour and 20-minute journey, making it a super convenient way to get there.

Heidelberg is absolutely perfect for a day trip. I explored it solo without realizing there were guided tours available, but after a bit of research, I found some great options!

While free and easy exploration is always fun, joining a tour can save you a lot of time and help you make the most of your visit, especially in a new city!

Walking across Heidelberg's Old Bridge is a must-do, and the panoramic views of the city from a distance are absolutely breathtaking!

1. Marktplatz (Market Square)

A few years back, my sibling and I revisited Europe, specifically Austria. We flew into Frankfurt and decided to take a day trip to Heidelberg before heading to Austria.

The peaceful atmosphere of the Marktplatz from that trip is something I'll never forget.

That sense of calm and freedom, wandering through the Marktplatz and exploring every charming alleyway, left such a strong impression on me. It's moments like those that remind me why I love to travel!

2. Old Bridge (Alte Brücke)

The Old Bridge, built in the 18th century, offers a spectacular view of Heidelberg Castle once you cross it and look back!

Once you cross the bridge, you'll find a hill leading upwards. Follow that path, and you'll arrive at the famous Philosopher's Walk!

3. Philosopher's Walk (Philosophenweg)

As you wander along the Philosopher's Walk, turn your head to admire the harmonious panorama of Heidelberg Castle and the Old Bridge. It's an uphill stroll, so I didn't stay too long, but I highly recommend taking your time to soak in the stunning views of Heidelberg peeking through the lush trees!

4. Heidelberg Castle (Heidelberger Schloss)

I visited Heidelberg Castle first, then proceeded to the Old Bridge and Philosopher's Walk. However, since the bus stop is quite close to the castle, it's also a great option to save the castle for last!

You can take the funicular up to the castle, but I opted to walk! It's quite a climb, so if you're not up for a strenuous hike, the funicular is definitely the way to go.

The city panorama from the castle is absolutely stunning! It offers a completely different perspective than what you see from Philosopher's Walk. It was during this trip that I truly fell in love with European architecture!
