My Review of Bat Trang Pottery Village
Ticket Prices, How to Get There, and Recommended Route
If you're planning a Hanoi family trip and looking for an easy, stress-free itinerary to enjoy with your parents,
Bat Trang Pottery Village is a perfect choice for a half-day excursion.
Its proximity to Hanoi's Old Quarter makes getting there a breeze, and with excellent exhibition and relaxation spaces,
it was a truly satisfying choice for a trip with my parents in their 60s.

This **Hanoi trip** was a
**family vacation with my parents in their 60s**.
We'd already visited must-see spots like the Ha Long Bay cruise on a previous trip,
so this time, I wanted to explore **somewhere new** together.
When choosing our Hanoi itinerary,
my main criteria were simple:
Easy to get to,
minimal walking,
and a calm, peaceful atmosphere.
One of the destinations that perfectly fit these conditions was
**Bát Tràng Pottery Village**, located just outside Hanoi.
Not far from Hanoi's Old Quarter and ideal for a half-day trip,
it was truly excellent for a journey with parents.

What is **Bát Tràng Pottery Village**...?
Bát Tràng Pottery Village is a
**traditional Vietnamese pottery village with a history spanning over 700 years**.

Even today, residents live here, making and selling pottery.
So, while it's a tourist destination, you'll find charming homes dotted throughout,
creating a quaint and authentic atmosphere.

Inside Hanoi's Bat Trang Pottery Village, the **Pottery Museum and Exhibition Space** is the main highlight,
complemented by charming alleys lined with pottery workshops and shops, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll.
Since I was with my parents,
I wanted to avoid overly crowded or commercial places, and I appreciated the overall calm and orderly feel of this village.

📍 Hoan Kiem Lake

From **Hanoi's Old Quarter (starting from Hoan Kiem Lake)**,
it takes approximately **30-40 minutes by car**.
It's a village located on the outskirts of Hanoi,
making it a great destination for a family trip with parents or children.
When traveling with parents, long travel times can quickly increase fatigue,
but Bat Trang Pottery Village presented less of a burden in that regard.
The **entire itinerary,**
**including travel and sightseeing, took about 3-4 hours**.

Reasons to recommend the 150,000 VND ticket
✔ 3rd-Floor Special Exhibition Area
The exhibition space was surprisingly well-organized.
The lighting and flow made it comfortable for my parents to take their time,
and it was easy to take photos without feeling rushed.

✔ Rooftop Garden and Complimentary Tea
This was the most impressive space for me.
When you go up to the rooftop garden,
they offer complimentary warm tea.
The flowers, including hydrangeas, were beautifully maintained,
and it was truly wonderful to sit and relax for a while.
Best of all, from this elevated position,
you could overlook the entire Bat Trang Ceramic Village.
My parents loved this spot the most.
Bat Trang Ceramic Museum Interior Facilities
After getting your tickets from the booth at the entrance of the Bat Trang Ceramic Village Museum,
you'll be greeted by a uniquely shaped building and a spacious plaza.

This is usually a great spot for photos, so I highly recommend taking a shot here!

After taking your photos, move forward and you'll see an elevator like this.
This is the entrance to the ceramic exhibition hall.

2nd Floor Exhibition Area | History of Bat Trang Ceramics and Main Exhibition
When you take the elevator to the 2nd floor,
you'll find an exhibition space showcasing the history of ceramics in Bat Trang Village and actual ceramic fragments as relics.

Among them, you'll find incredible sculpted works depicting famous figures, like serene Buddha statues or even Ho Chi Minh himself!

And then, my eyes were drawn to some truly stunning celadon pieces!

Occasionally, I'd stumble upon pieces that made me wonder, 'Is this art, too...?' It turns out, the exhibition also wonderfully features works by contemporary ceramic artists alongside the traditional!

You'll also discover adorable, intricate teapot sets, perfect for a cozy afternoon brew!

And for a deeper appreciation, there were even exhibits showcasing the fascinating process of firing pottery!
3rd Floor Special Exhibition: A Dazzling Journey into Ceramic Art, Expressed Through Light and Shadow!
* To experience this, a 150,000 dong admission ticket is required.
After soaking in the wonders of the 2nd-floor main exhibition, head up the stairs to the 3rd floor – that's where this amazing space unfolds!

Prepare to be mesmerized! This space showcases unique and wondrous works of art, brilliantly crafted using the interplay of ceramics and light.
During my visit, most of the guests were Vietnamese, so the explanations were naturally in Vietnamese. However, here's a tip for my fellow global explorers: it seemed they could also provide explanations in English if you ask for it!

When light was shined on the sculptures
made of stone and wood, shadows appeared on the wall behind them.
It was truly amazing how
these shadows formed intricate shapes – tranquil farming scenes,
historical figures from the past –
forms that were absolutely impossible to guess
from the original sculptures themselves.

From here on is the final highlight.
As the gigantic sculpture displayed in the center was rotated,
completely unexpected shapes appeared –
like a portrait of Ho Chi Minh or the star from the Vietnamese flag!

Truly,
it was a light sculpture art exhibition space
meticulously crafted by calculating light and shadow,
and a place filled with
light sculptural artworks where entirely different shapes appeared depending on the lighting.
Souvenir Shop
At the end of the 3rd-floor art exhibition space, a variety of handmade items were displayed,
including turtle sculptures and knitted dolls.
There were also teacup and teapot sets,
with so many beautiful designs that they made you want to take them all home!

The 4th floor has a restaurant and a sky cafe, so
you can grab a quick meal or buy ice cream.

However, after visiting Bat Trang Ceramic Village,
we planned to move on for our meal,
so we headed straight to the 5th-floor rooftop garden.

5th Floor Rooftop Garden Review|A Relaxing Oasis My Parents Loved Most
* Entry requires a ticket for 150,000 VND

With hydrangeas and various plants beautifully maintained, it was perfect for taking photos,
and most of all, the quiet and relaxed atmosphere was truly impressive.

Along with a cozy indoor space,
there was also an outdoor garden with tables,
where visitors could enjoy a cup of tea and admire
art similar to the light and shadow exhibits we saw on the 3rd floor,
making it a lovely spot to explore.

After exploring the Bat Trang Ceramic Museum, when you ascend to the rooftop garden,
you'll naturally find yourself slowing down.

Grabbing a warm cup of tea, which is included with your admission ticket, and settling down,
you can take in the entire village view as the breeze gently passes by.

Being able to slowly explore the exhibition spaces and then take a peaceful break,
it was the place my parents found most relaxing.

It's a space where you can fully relax without having to walk a lot,
making it particularly satisfying for trips with parents.

Once you've explored up to the 5th floor, make your way back down to the 1st floor!
That's where you'll discover a fantastic sales area, brimming with all sorts of ceramic souvenirs and delightful little treasures.

What's more, the prices are generally quite reasonable here.
You'll even find ceramic phin coffee makers, famous for brewing that delicious Vietnamese coffee,
so if you've been wanting one,
this is your chance to snag it!
Here's a pro tip: it seems the prices here are actually around 60% of what you'd pay around Hoan Kiem Lake.
So, if you're truly looking to pick up a special souvenir,
I highly recommend getting it right here!
