After exploring Ba Dinh Square,
you might wonder what to do next.
If you only visit the Mausoleum and the surrounding square,
your itinerary might feel a bit short.

Heading straight to the Old Quarter right after
can make the route feel a bit awkward.
That's why I think exploring on your own in the morning,
and filling the afternoon with a tour,
is the best approach.
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum: Closure Dates and Reopening Information
The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
will be closed for scheduled maintenance from September 4 to November 2, 2026.
Its reopening is anticipated for November 3rd.
If you're planning to enter the Mausoleum itself,
you'll need to double-check these dates.
This itinerary works wonderfully even if you don't go inside the Mausoleum,
and after it reopens, it's also a great option to follow your Mausoleum visit.
How to Get to B52 Lake from Ba Dinh Square (Using Grab)
I visited B52 Lake on a Sunday.

📍 B52 Lake (Huu Tiep Lake)
Address: Ngõ 55 Hoàng Hoa Thám,
Ngọc Hà, Ba Đình
How to get there: Grab (approx. 1 km straight line)
Admission: Free
With Grab, once you enter your destination,
the fare is quoted upfront.
It was easiest to search for "Hồ B52" as the destination.
If you want to pin the cafe first,
you'll find it listed as "30Days Cafe - Hoàng Hoa Thám".
Many recommend installing the Grab app in your home country and registering your card beforehand.
This is because SMS verification can sometimes fail locally.
If you don't receive the verification SMS at the airport,
and the app gets stuck, your very first transfer could become a headache.
If you're planning a self-guided trip to Hanoi, Vietnam,
I highly recommend setting up an eSIM before you depart.

Towards the alley leading to the lake,
you'll see a '30 DAYS' sign.
B52 Lake: What to See and How Long to Spend

While its official name is Huu Tiep Lake,
locals more commonly refer to it as B52 Lake.
On the night of December 27, 1972,
part of a B-52 bomber, shot down over Hanoi,
crashed into this very lake.
The wreckage remains there to this day,
and in 1992, it was officially designated a national historical relic.

I expected a solemn memorial space,
but upon arriving, I found a small lake nestled right in the middle of a residential area.
There were quite a few people leaning on the railing,
observing the wreckage.
In the center of the lake,
a striking red sculpture stood.

Seeing the wreckage with your own eyes
is enough for about 10 minutes at most.
Rather than coming all the way just to see the lake,
it seemed better to combine it with a cafe visit.

B52 Lake Cafe 30Days Review and Menu Prices
📍 30Days Cafe - Hoàng Hoa Thám
Opening Hours: Daily 07:00~23:00
This cafe is located across the lake.

The exterior, with its aged concrete texture
and rows of pillars, didn't immediately strike me
as a cafe.
Step inside, and you'll find
a checkered floor bathed in soft,
warm yellow lighting.

You place your order at the counter on the first floor.
A staff member brought our drinks
to our seats on the second floor.

I settled into an indoor seat
with a view of the lake.
Through the window,
I could see both the lake and the wreckage.

However, not all seats
offer a lake view.
There were also window seats facing the trees,
and on the third floor, you'd find long working tables
equipped with power outlets, plus a rooftop terrace!

🔻 Menu Ordered 🔻
→ Cold Brew 50,000 VND
→ Matcha Cheese Cream Latte 65,000 VND
→ VAT 8% not included

On the same menu,
a Vietnamese black coffee starts from
35,000 VND.
Even with two drinks costing around 120,000 VND,
and considering the added value of a lake-view seat,
it wasn't a heavy burden on the wallet.

👍 What I loved
→ Window seats offering views of both the lake and the wreckage
→ The interior's charming blend of aged textures and warm yellow lighting
→ Working spaces equipped with power outlets
🤔 What could be improved
→ Only some seats have a lake view

③ 30Days Cafe
Across the lake, around 1 hour

Hanoi Korean-Speaking Guided Tour vs. Independent Travel

After this, the morning ends. If you want to see the Old Quarter in the afternoon, and you're traveling Hanoi as a family, planning the itinerary can actually be quite a headache.
This is where a
Korean-speaking guided half-day tour comes in handy.
📍 Korean-speaking Guided Half-Day Tour
(1:00 PM ~ 7:40 PM)
→ St. Joseph's Cathedral
→ Hoan Kiem Lake & Ngoc Son Temple
→ Long Bien Bridge, Dong Xuan Market,
and even Hanoi Train Street.
It starts with hotel pickup in the Old City area.
The guide doesn't accompany you back to your hotel or the airport after the tour ends, so you can just return by vehicle.
Ba Dinh Square and B52 Lake are
not included in this tour,
so the two itineraries don't overlap.
Since it's a private tour,
the price needs to be adjusted according to the number of people.
For a group of two, it starts from around ~$82 per person,
and the per-person fee decreases
as the number of people increases.
Perfect for family trips..!

🔻 Independent Travel (Grab)
→ Itinerary: Ba Dinh, B52 Lake, Cafe
→ Pros: You set your own pace and time at each stop
→ Cons: You have to manage all transportation and planning yourself ^^!!
→ Booking: Not required
🔻 Korean-Speaking Guided Tour
→ Itinerary: Cathedral, Hoan Kiem, Long Bien, Dong Xuan Market, Train Street
→ Pros: You can leave the transportation and explanations to the guide
→ Cons: Ba Dinh and B52 are not on the itinerary!!
→ Booking: Required (Options like number of people)
If you're taking a family trip with independent travel,
there's plenty of time to spend at one place,
so this kind of itinerary could be quite good.

The flow is to explore Ba Dinh and B52 Lake
independently in the morning,
then start the tour from your hotel
at 1 PM after lunch.
The day continues seamlessly without any downtime.
Options that fit your group size and luggage,
as well as available spots for each date,

connecting to West Lake by Grab is
not too difficult.
