Ha Thanh Mansion: A Hoan Kiem Gem in Hanoi
A Michelin Bib Gourmand Experience for Your Family Dinner: Menu, Prices, Booking & Review

When choosing a dinner spot near Hanoi's Hoan Kiem Lake, you generally have three main options.
Local eateries tucked away in Old Quarter alleys, tourist-friendly restaurants around the lake, or charming restaurants slightly off the main streets.
Since it was a farewell dinner for our coach, we needed a place where all eight of us could comfortably sit together,
so we opted for the third choice.
And that's Ha Thanh Mansion.
Ha Thanh Mansion in Hanoi,

It's awarded to restaurants that offer great food at reasonable prices.
It's been recognized again in 2026, following its inclusion in 2025.
That's why you'll see both MICHELIN 2025 and 2026 signs proudly displayed side-by-side at the entrance.

It was Ha Thanh Mansion.

The restaurant itself occupies a French-style villa that's over 100 years old.
Each floor boasts a unique interior design, and there's a separate cocktail bar right at the entrance.
If you visit at night, the ivy-covered exterior is illuminated with countless lights, making it noticeable right from the alley entrance.
The menu primarily features Northern Vietnamese home-style dishes.
Instead of individual, beautifully plated fine dining dishes,
it's closer to a shared-platter style meal, perfect for groups.

It's just a bit removed from the hustle and bustle of the Old Quarter, making the alley quite peaceful, even at night.
If your accommodation is near Hoan Kiem Lake, it's easily walkable,

How to Make a Restaurant Reservation
Booking Michelin-starred Restaurants in Hanoi

It's definitely best to make a reservation here.
Ever since it made it into the Michelin Guide, it's gotten really popular,
and it seemed difficult to get a table as a walk-in, especially on weekend evenings or for groups.
📍 How to Reserve

-> If you're a group, make sure to specify your group size and preferred seating area.
This is more important than you might think!
Always Double-Check Your Assigned Seat Location
We were given a table on the first floor, but it happened to be right in front of the traditional performance team.
Performers dressed in ao dai played the pipa, nguyet cam,
bamboo flute, and small drums live.

Perhaps they recognized we were a Korean group, because they even played some familiar melodies. That was nice.
The problem was the proximity. Being right in front meant the sound hit us directly,
to the point where it was hard to hear the person across from us.... haha...
We were a group of eight, saying our final goodbyes, but our conversations kept getting interrupted.
📍 Seating Guide
Location | Features | Conversation |
1st Floor, in front of stage | Maximum live experience | Difficult |
1st Floor, inner area | Decent | Normal |
Upper Floor | Quiet and good lighting | Comfortable |
-> If your goal is conversation, request a seat on the upper floor or away from the performance area.
-> If you want to fully immerse yourself in the performance, specifically request a front-row seat on the 1st floor.

What We Ordered & The Total Cost
Price Range
Here's roughly what our group of eight enjoyed.
📍 Our Actual Order (Unit: 1,000 VND)
Menu | Price |
Nem rán Hà Thành (Fried Spring Rolls) | 159 |
Gỏi cuốn ngũ sắc (Fresh Spring Rolls) | 159 |
Gỏi tôm Tiến Vua (Fresh Shrimp Salad) | 399 |
Chả cá Lã Vọng (La Vong Grilled Fish with Turmeric) | 299 |
Chả ốc Kinh Kỳ (Grilled Snail Cakes with La Lot Leaves) | 189 |
Nọng má kho tiêu (Braised Pork Cheek with Pepper) | 249 |
Stir-fried Seasonal Vegetables with Garlic | 99 |
Cơm rang (Fried Rice) | 249 |
Hanoi Beer & Other Drinks | Around late 4 million VND |
After adding VAT and service charges for some additional orders of the same items,
the total bill came to around late 4 million VND.

📍 Cost per Person
Category | Amount |
Total for 8 people | Around 4.9 million VND |
Per person | Around 610,000 VND |
Converted to USD | ~$23 |
Considering a meal at a local Bún Chả spot can be as little as 50,000 VND, this is definitely pricier.
However, for a Michelin-recognized restaurant where eight people ate their fill,
paying around ~$18 per person feels quite reasonable by Korean standards.
-> If you're looking to trim your budget, you can consider skipping the kilo-priced dishes like the shrimp and black pork. A significant portion of the total bill can come from these items!
Our Honest Review of the Food

The absolute highlight for us was the Nem rán (Fried Spring Rolls).
The rice paper was fried so thin and crispy that it made a delightful sound with every bite. The inside remained moist while the outside maintained that perfect crunch.
Dipping them in the nuoc mam sauce cut through any richness, making them incredibly moreish. Even though we ordered plenty for eight people, they were the first to disappear!
Chả cá Lã Vọng is a dish of turmeric-marinated fish, served hot in a pan with dill. You assemble it yourself at the table with bún (rice vermicelli), peanuts, and various herbs.

The flavor was clean and pleasant, though not as intensely flavored as you might find at a specialized Chả cá restaurant. However, for someone trying it for the first time, this spot might actually be a great introduction.

The Braised Pork Cheek with Pepper arrived in an aluminum hot pot. Even though the seasoning wasn't overly strong, the whole peppercorns gave it a wonderful presence. It paired perfectly with the fried rice.

The Fresh Shrimp Salad features uncooked shrimp tossed in a tangy sauce. It's served with shredded cabbage, and while delicious, if you're not keen on raw seafood, it might be best to choose something else.
👍 What We Loved
Housed in a 100-year-old villa, the space itself is incredibly photogenic.
The staff are fluent in English. We had no trouble understanding the menu descriptions and placing our order.
The spices aren't overpowering, making it a great choice even for those new to Vietnamese cuisine.
Our table for eight was already set up when we arrived – a huge plus for groups!
🤔 A Few Things to Note
If you're seated right in front of the performance stage, conversation can be a bit challenging.
The listed prices don't include tax or service charges, so the final bill might be higher than you expect.
The kilo-priced menu items might not always offer the best value for money.
Afternoon visits can be tricky due to their break time, so definitely double-check their opening hours!
🔍 Our Review of Phở Thìn Lò Đúc, the Original Hoàn Kiếm Branch (A Hanoi Pho Noodle Soup Gem)
Order Hanoi Beer in the 1-Liter Can!

The 1-liter aluminum cans of Bia Hà Nội (Hanoi Beer) sold here were fantastic.
They stay colder longer than bottles, and the beer itself is light and smooth.
It perfectly complemented the rich dishes.
Their tradition is to pour it over ice into green glass tumblers.
-> Just ask if they have it in cans when you order!

Perfect For:

If you're looking for a dinner spot for a family trip to Hanoi...
It offers proper tables with chairs, the flavors aren't overly strong, and English is spoken.
It's a perfect choice for parents who might find local eateries with low plastic chairs a bit challenging.
If you're planning a group gathering...
They can comfortably accommodate up to 8 people.
If you have more people, focusing your order around hot pot (lẩu) dishes can be beneficial for managing your budget.
For a farewell dinner on your last night in Hanoi...
Thanks to the impressive building and the captivating performances, it leaves a lasting impression that you truly 'dined in Hanoi.'
We chose it for a farewell occasion, and it perfectly suited that purpose.
If you're keen to experience a Michelin-recognized restaurant...
As a Bib Gourmand establishment, it's quite accessible. Just remember to make a reservation in advance.
On the other hand, if you're only looking for affordable local flavors...?
There's no real need to come all the way here. The Old Quarter is teeming with more affordable and vibrant local spots.
If you want to explore several Michelin-recognized restaurants in Hanoi all at once,
instead of visiting them individually, a curated walking food tour will definitely save you time.
