I'm excited to share my experience of reuniting with familiar faces and making new connections, all while dancing and recharging my energy on the dance floor.
What is Swing Dance?
Before diving into the party highlights, let's briefly introduce swing dance for those who might be new to it!

Swing dance is a partner dance performed to swing jazz music, popular in the United States from the 1920s to the 1940s. It encompasses various styles, with the most famous being Lindy Hop, along with Charleston and Balboa.

It's a social dance that emphasizes musical connection with your partner rather than memorizing fixed choreography.
Unlike many other dance forms taught in studios, swing dance thrives in communities and clubs, where experienced dancers mentor newcomers. This truly embodies the spirit of a 'social dance.'

Moving to the lively jazz rhythms is an incredible stress-buster.
It's a captivating hobby for all ages, and you can make friends anywhere in the world just by finding a local swing dance spot.
I recently shared a post about the upcoming Vietnam Lindy Exchange 2026 in Hanoi.
Inside Gwangju Swingholic's 'Miss You, Friend' Party
The party's theme, Miss You, Friend, perfectly captured the warm and welcoming atmosphere. It was designed to embrace both returning members who had been away due to busy lives and new friends joining the community.
1. An Exciting Entrance and Electric Atmosphere

Stepping into Gwangju Swingholic's dedicated hall, I was immediately greeted by upbeat jazz music.

The friendly welcome from the organizers set the perfect party mood. And of course, the delicious food and drinks prepared for the event were a fantastic touch.
2. Non-Stop Social Dancing

The heart of any swing party is the social dance time. It was wonderful to see everyone greeting each other with 'Missed you!' and then grabbing a partner to hit the floor.
This party, in particular, fostered an inclusive atmosphere, allowing dancers of all levels, from beginners to veterans, to mingle and enjoy.
3. Special Events and Performances
Mid-party, we were treated to a graduation performance by the beginner dancers.
During a snowy period, we were treated to a special performance from Gwangju Swingholic's beginner dancers. Let's take a look at the video!

The performance itself was entertaining, but what truly warmed my heart was seeing the beginner dancers, who had worked so hard for their graduation show, being celebrated by their senior peers.
We also enjoyed a few rounds of jazz line dancing.
MellowTrip's Takeaway
As someone who loves exploring diverse cultures through travel, swing dance feels like another form of 'traveling with your body.' The exhilarating moment of connecting with a stranger through music alone is an unparalleled experience.
If you're in Gwangju looking for a unique hobby or want to inject some excitement into your routine, I highly recommend checking out Gwangju Swingholic.
I hope to dance with some of you at the next party!
