If you're longing for the comforting taste of a home-cooked meal, just like your parents used to make, or if you want to experience the generous flavors of Jeollado cuisine for just about ~$7, this is the spot I wholeheartedly recommend. Let's dive into the full review!

The Exterior – A True Hidden Gem

You'll find parking nearby on the street, or in the empty lot pictured below, as there isn't a dedicated parking area for the restaurant itself.

Doesn't the exterior look unique? There's no sign or name displayed, making it look just like a regular home. Yet, during lunchtime, you'll see a line of eager diners stretching out the door!

Inside the Eatery – A Taste of Tradition

Operating hours are from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, making this a lunch-only establishment. Step inside, and you're greeted by the comforting sight of a traditional Korean eatery.

I arrived around 11:20 AM to secure a table for a lunch gathering with colleagues. The space is well-maintained and clean, offering a comfortable setting for your meal.

Even at that early hour, there were already people seated and enjoying their meals. It's clear that this place isn't about fancy decor; it's all about the exceptional taste of the food.

The Baekban set meal costs ~$7 per person. If there are no empty tables, you'll be given a numbered paddle (often a rice paddle!) and asked to wait.

Looking at the menu, the Baekban set is ~$7 per person and requires a minimum order of two servings. Duck Stew is available for ~$9. While spicy pork stir-fry (Jeyuk-bokkeum) comes as a basic side dish, you can order an additional portion for about ~$3-4.

The Baekban Feast – A Culinary Masterpiece

For just ~$7, this signature Baekban set comes with over ten diverse side dishes and a main stew. It's truly a feast for the senses!

The main stew is a delicious Crab Doenjang-jjigae, a soybean paste stew brimming with fresh crab.

Here are just some of the side dishes that were set out for us: various types of kimchi, seasoned vegetables (namul), quail eggs, and fresh wraps (ssam). The spread is incredible!

For the main side dishes, we were served spicy pork stir-fry (Jeyuk-bokkeum), grilled hairtail fish (Galchi-gui), and seasoned raw crab (Yangnyeom Gejang). Each dish is a star in its own right!

Every single side dish is a work of art. From the fluffy, freshly cooked rice to the seasonal greens, the addictively spicy Yangnyeom Gejang, perfectly grilled Galchi-gui, and the universally loved Jeyuk-bokkeum – the flavors are deep and authentic, bringing out the natural taste of the ingredients without being overly strong. It’s truly a culinary delight!

Of course, the specific side dishes may change with the seasons, ensuring freshness. Even amidst the bustling lunch rush, the staff are quick to notice if a side dish is running low and proactively refill it – a truly heartwarming touch of Korean hospitality. The service is prompt, and the atmosphere is lively, making for a wonderfully pleasant dining experience.

A coffee vending machine is available for a quick after-meal pick-me-up. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try their Duck Stew!
