It's precisely located in the Ninenzaka area, which tends to be less crowded than other parts, making it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. It's an ideal spot to relax and recharge.

Grapevine Cafe Kyoto is conveniently located about an 8-minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera Temple, just one block past the Starbucks on Ninenzaka.

Beyond the Starbucks, the crowds noticeably thin out, allowing you to explore the Ninenzaka street at a much more leisurely pace.

The cafe's wooden structure radiates a warm and inviting atmosphere.

It perfectly captures the calm mood characteristic of Ninenzaka cafes, offering a much more relaxed vibe compared to the bustling Starbucks nearby.

Grapevine Cafe Kyoto offers a variety of seating options, including traditional horigotatsu seating on tatami mats, where you can comfortably stretch your legs under a sunken table, as well as floor seating with cushions. This section truly makes you feel like you've stepped into a traditional Japanese home.

For those who prefer it, there are also standard table seats available, so you can choose whatever suits you best.

I also noticed a cabinet decorated in a Japanese style and a small garden, which, to my surprise, turned out to be a smoking area. 🤔

While a faint smell of smoke might be noticeable if you sit at tables very close to the smoking area, the traditional Kyoto-style floor seating area is far enough away that non-smokers can enjoy the authentic atmosphere without any concern.

The menu is thoughtfully provided in English. Aside from house coffee, most other cafe beverages are priced at ~$4 (600 JPY)!

They also serve beer and offer set menus that combine beer with light snacks. This makes it a great spot if you're looking to enjoy a casual drink while exploring Kiyomizu-dera.

Since it was a bit chilly, I opted for a warm Americano, which had a smooth and nutty flavor without any strong acidity – a perfectly pleasant cup.

The owner, an expat rather than a local Japanese, had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed engaging in small talk, which added a personal touch to the experience.

I stayed for about an hour, and with fewer visitors, I could truly relax and enjoy the peaceful, quiet surroundings.
