Gili Trawangan Weather Guide 2026: Sunset Hunting
Is Gili Trawangan worth visiting during the rainy season? Here is my real-time weather update, sunset hunting success, and 4-night itinerary highlights.
🌴 5 Days and 4 Nights in Gili Trawangan! Currently Traveling Bali
After spending an amazing 5 days and 4 nights in Gili,
heading back to Padang Bai,
and now hanging out in Sanur—
this is your Bali weather correspondent, Hee-ya!
For those of you curious about the weather in Ubud,
which was my very first stop,
I've dropped a link below
so feel free to check it out!

I spent 5 days and 4 nights in Gili Trawangan,
and spent one of those days doing some turtle snorkeling
and taking a quick day trip to Gili Meno.
The moment I arrived at my first accommodation,
I instantly thought, "Wow, the weather in Gili is absolutely gorgeous!" :)

The sky was perfect, the resort was beautiful,
and I was in the best mood during check-in.
I think meeting a super sweet and friendly staff member
made the start of the trip even more magical!

I immediately changed into my swimsuit
and jumped right into the pool.
Under the clear Gili sky, the sunshine was incredibly warm and bright.

As sunset drew closer,
some clouds started rolling in...
I was starting to get a bit worried...

While it wasn't a picture-perfect sunset,
I'd still call my very first sunset hunt in Gili a success!

And wow, looking at the resort
after complete darkness set in was just stunning 😭😭
The soft, glowing lights of the villa at night
created such a dreamy and magical vibe.
🌧️ Day 2: Experiencing Gili's Rainy Season, Floating Breakfast in the Rain
So, is this what the Gili rainy season is really like?
The rain, which had been drizzling since dawn,
turned into a heavy downpour by morning...

But I booked a floating breakfast for today
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I waited for over 30 minutes hoping it would stop,
but eventually, I had to give up.
I quickly snapped a few photos
and ate my rain-soaked breakfast...

Since the rain kept stopping and starting all day,
and the weather was so unpredictable,
I figured, "Let's just eat and head out to see some turtles!"
So, I made my way to Turtle Point.

Maybe because the water was too murky or because I went a bit too late,
but I didn't get to spot any turtles
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

As soon as I got back to the resort, I went straight back into the pool lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can you see how cloudy it was?
Am I cursed by the weather gods or what...

But then, as if it had never rained,
the clouds parted and the sun started peaking through again.
Gili is the kind of place where, if you have a bicycle,
you can easily explore the entire island! haha
A bike is an absolute must-have!!

Devouring some pizza while watching the gorgeous sunset 🍕
☀️ Day 3: Clear Skies! Successful Turtle Snorkeling

The next day, Gili's weather was unbelievably clear!
Are we sure this is actually the rainy season?
If it's this good now, I can't even imagine how amazing the dry season must be...

Since it was so cloudy the day before,
I was really worried about turtle snorkeling,
but looking back, I had absolutely nothing to worry about.
The water was incredibly clear,
and we got to see the turtles up close.
I was flailing around and accidentally touched the back of a turtle's neck...
Highly uncomfortable for both me and the turtle... haha.

Yep... my back is currently sunburned to a crisp
hahahaha

Taking a quick break on Gili Meno Island
I felt totally fine at this point,
but I have no idea when I got so burned;
Even though it's Gili's rainy season,
the UV rays are seriously intense.
So make sure you apply sunscreen diligently,
and definitely bring some aloe vera gel...
I usually carry it with me everywhere,
why on earth did I forget it this time?
I tried to buy some in Bali, but it was so expensive I couldn't bring myself to do it;
So I just bought a cucumber from the market, sliced it up,
and put it on my back
hahahaha

After coming back from turtle snorkeling,
we checked into our second stay!
Omg, it's absolutely gorgeous 😭

Floating in the water~
I saw everyone taking pictures on the beanbag,
so I jumped right on,
but it was totally soaking up water...
I can't wait to share my reviews of the Gili accommodations.
Seriously, every single place we stayed in Gili
was so amazing, I want to share them with you guys ASAP!!
Our Ubud accommodation was incredible,
and our current stay in Sanur is absolutely beautiful too!

Off to hunt for the sunset again...!
It was another cloudy sunset,
which was a little disappointing
😭
🌅 Day 4: Legendary Sunset and Our Last Night

Took some photos by the beach,
and jumped straight into the water to see turtles.
Haha, so much fun!

Still dripping wet, we ate the best Nasi Goreng of our lives,
and since the cafe we wanted to visit was closed,
we ended up at a pricey cafe...
But even so, compared to back home, it's dirt cheap.

The sunset this day was truly legendary.
It was so incredibly beautiful.
I couldn't stop saying "wow."
Though, it's still not quite on the level of Boracay's sunset...

One of the horses carrying a rider actually tipped over,
the person fell off, and the horse kept wandering
deeper into the sea, so two staff members had to dive in after it.
It was absolute chaos.
A horse with a mind of its own..🐴
Ended up seeing the most legendary sunset of our Gili trip
😭
So gorgeous!
🏝️ Last Day: Clear skies on departure day... I already want to go back to Gili Trawangan

The weather was beautiful even on our last day leaving the Gili Islands...
I wanted to swim more
and watch the turtles for just a bit longer..

"I absolutely have to come back here,"
was all I could think about during my time in Gili Trawangan.
Every single moment of my 5-day, 4-night itinerary
was absolutely perfect.
The locals were incredibly warm and friendly,
and I tasted the absolute best Nasi Goreng
and life-changing pizza of my life here.
I already can't wait to go back!
Also, don't worry about Gili's weather
even if you're traveling during the rainy season!
It was way sunnier than I expected!
Renting a bicycle is perfect for exploring the whole island,
so it's a total must-do~
And don't forget tons of sunscreen! haha
I'll be posting a separate review of my accommodations soon,
so I hope it helps anyone
planning their dream Gili getaway! :)
For those hesitating to visit Bali in March
because of the rainy season—
both Ubud and Gili had such gorgeous weather,
it felt like the dry season. So don't worry and just go for it~!!
