Yangjiam Sculpture Park, Geoje Island: A Scenic Coastal Walk

Exploring every corner of Geoje Island can be a challenge without your own car. Public transportation has its limits, so after spending a day around Gohyeon-dong, I decided to embark on a spontaneous bus adventure the next day.

First, I traveled from my accommodation to Gohyeon Bus Terminal.

At Gohyeon Bus Terminal, I found two options: Bus #10 and Bus #16-1. I opted for Bus #10, which travels through Suwol, Okpo, Jangseungpo, and Neungpo.

Near Neungpo, you'll find several attractions, including Yangjiam Rose Park, Neungpo Waterfront Park, and Yangjiam Sculpture Park. I got off at Neungpo Elementary School and walked up to Yangjiam Sculpture Park. If I'd had a car, I could have visited all three parks, but that's the reality of traveling on foot!

Getting to Yangjiam Sculpture Park

Yangjiam Sculpture Park is an art park showcasing over 40 pieces by renowned sculptors from across South Korea, selected through a national competition.

It's divided into four themes: Garden of Empathy, Sky, Image, and Sea. Different flowers bloom with each season, making it an ideal spot to visit in spring and fall.

As you ascend the park, a magnificent, colorful panorama unfolds to your left, encompassing Neungpo Elementary School, Daejeong Royal Mansion, and houses lining the coast. This was truly one of the most breathtaking moments of my Geoje trip.

I visited in the peak of summer, back in June, and though I was sweating profusely, I had the place almost entirely to myself, which was fantastic! While summer outdoor activities can be hot, the clouds were dramatic, and the trees and grasses were incredibly vibrant.

It takes less than 10 minutes to reach the main entrance at the top of Yangjiam Sculpture Park.

As you continue, the path splits into two. Since Yangjiam Lighthouse was about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) away, I decided to head towards the closer Neungpo Rose Park.

Wow, the views were absolutely incredible! On the way to the Rose Park, I saw a few people hiking and strolling. While the weather is cooler now (September 2026), potentially drawing more visitors, I imagine it's mostly locals rather than a major tourist spot.

Sculptures stand tall in various spots. There seemed to be a path leading further up, as I saw people descending from a separate hiking trail.

The Rose Park isn't exactly bursting with a spectacular display of flowers – this is pretty much it!

The panoramic views from here were absolutely stunning, reminiscent of famous scenic spots like Busan's Taejongdae or Yeosu's Hyangiram. There's truly nothing quite like the joy of discovering such beauty in an unexpected place!

I spotted a cat and walked closer, but it didn't budge. Pure bliss!

If you approach the Sculpture Park as I did, you can first explore the nearby Rose Park (to your right), then walk back towards Yangjiam Lighthouse, enjoying the sculptures along the way. This makes for a wonderful 1-2 hour stroll.

So there you have it – Yangjiam Sculpture Park, a must-visit spot on Geoje Island! When it was time to head back to Gohyeon-dong, I simply caught any bus from the stop opposite where I'd disembarked, rode it towards Okpo-dong, and then transferred to another bus to reach Gohyeon-dong.

Even if you're traveling without a car, don't hesitate to use taxis or buses to reach the places you want to see. It's surprisingly easy!
