Hey there, Global Explorers! It's your guide, Topi, here.✨
Things have been a whirlwind lately, so my blog's been a little quiet, but I'm back with a fantastic find!
Today, I'm thrilled to share a true local gem in Gapyeong, handpicked by my fiancé, who practically grew up in this charming town.
Let's dive into one of Gapyeong's authentic must-try eateries!

Our first stop, and a recent lunch date favorite, is Essen Pizza!◡̈

Oh, I can't believe I forgot to snap a picture of Essen Pizza's exterior! 😵💫
Even without a photo, I can tell you it's nestled right in Gapyeong's downtown area. From the outside in, the restaurant exudes a charming, old-school ambiance that feels incredibly cozy and welcoming. The moment you step through the door, you're enveloped in a comforting sense of nostalgia!

Even the menu board gives off a delightful throwback vibe, reminiscent of classic Korean 'Gyeongyangsik' (Western-style) restaurants – a real blast from the past! We barely sat down before placing our order, no hesitation here, haha! (My fiancé, ever the planner, already had our delicious choices mapped out.)
Cheese Spaghetti ~$8
Cheese Oven Pork Cutlet (Spicy Sauce Option) ~$8
I really wanted a soda, but I'm trying to cut back on sugary drinks these days, so I skipped it! ‼️

You'll get 'Kkakdugi' (diced radish kimchi) and a refreshing cabbage pickle as complimentary side dishes. I absolutely adore having kimchi or radishes with my spaghetti, and these were the perfect accompaniment! 🥰

Oven-Baked Cheese Spaghetti ~$8
Served piping hot in an oven-safe dish, this is exactly the kind of classic, old-school oven-baked cheese spaghetti I adore! It stays warm and gooey until the very last bite. A generous layer of golden-brown cheese blankets a rich tomato sauce – it's a visual treat from the moment it arrives! 💯

Twirl your fork into that luscious cheese and spaghetti, and you'll be instantly transported back to childhood memories of special occasion meals at those charming Western-style Korean restaurants. It's truly a taste of nostalgia! ✨

Funnily enough, I'm not a big fan of raw tomatoes, but I absolutely adore tomato spaghetti! The rich tomato sauce combined with the savory cheese fills your mouth with incredible flavor. And with so much cheese, it's surprisingly filling on its own!

Cheese Oven Pork Cutlet (Spicy Sauce Option) ~$8
While the regular cheese pork cutlet is delicious, the real secret here is opting for the 'spicy sauce'! As you slice into the generously portioned cutlet, hidden beneath a glorious waterfall of melted cheese, the crispy pork cutlet pieces reveal themselves. 😄

And the fact that it comes with black rice? That's a delightful bonus! 😍 I couldn't wait to slice it up and dig in! ~

Take a bite of the spicy cheese pork cutlet, then follow it with a mouthful of the sweet and savory cheese spaghetti, and you'll experience a perfect "Maep-Neu-Maep-Neu" balance – a delightful Korean term for when something spicy and rich (or cheesy!) perfectly complements each other. It's an incredible flavor harmony!

If you're a true cheese lover, you might even consider getting the regular cheese pork cutlet. But for my next visit, I'm eager to try the standard pork cutlet without the cheese topping to really savor its crispy texture!

Both dishes were generously portioned, and by the time we finished, we were completely satisfied. To enjoy such a high-quality, hearty meal at such an affordable price was truly a delightful experience! ❤︎
With the beautiful weather we've been having recently, I'm sure many of you are planning trips to Gapyeong! If you're looking to skip the usual tourist traps and discover a truly special and delicious meal, then a visit to Essen Pizza in Gapyeong will be a choice you won't regret! 👍
Especially for those who love a bit of spice, don't forget to ask for the spicy sauce with your pork cutlet – it's an absolute must-try! ‼️
