Your guide to smooth travels.
Remember that Gapyeong stream we talked about last time?
Mudangso Recreational Area was great for diving,
but a bit of a bummer since you couldn't cook there and life jackets were mandatory, right?
🔺 Our Review of Mudangso Recreational Area in Gapyeong
Today, we're diving into a lesser-known gem:
a stream where you can cook, and it's still a bit of a secret,
mostly visited by those in the know.
If you love swimming in deeper waters,
then head over to Dokbawi Recreational Area, near Dodaeri Sanggyo Bridge,
for a refreshing dip.

Location
📍 Dodaeri Sanggyo Bridge
Dodaeri, Buk-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do
✔ Location: Beneath the Dodaeri Sanggyo Bridge, Dodaeri, Gapyeong-eup, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do
✔ Map Search:
On Tmap or Kakao Map, search for 'Dokbawi Recreational Area'
(Note: Most GPS apps may not list 'Dokbawi Recreational Area' directly. Instead, search for 'Dodaeri Sanggyo Bridge' to pinpoint the location.)

Right below the Dodaeri Sanggyo Bridge,
a wide stream area opens up.
The bridge acts as a clear landmark,
making it easy to find your way.
Parking

✔ Parking under the bridge: space for about 16 vehicles
✔ Parking on the bridge (or roadside above): Risk of parking violation ticket
✔ Parking enforcement: Active even on weekends
The designated parking area is right under the bridge,
offering much more relaxed parking than Mudangso Recreational Area.

One crucial warning:
Parking on the Dodaeri Sanggyo Bridge itself, or on the shoulder above the parking lot, will result in a parking violation ticket.

We actually witnessed a patrol vehicle issuing tickets around 4 PM on a Saturday,
so they're serious about it.
Always use the designated parking spaces under the bridge.
✔ Remember that enforcement happens even on weekends.
✔ Access from the parking area to the stream is quite easy.
Be sure to share this awesome cooking-friendly stream spot with your friends!
Water Activities

✔ Date of Visit: August 8th, 2026
✔ Maximum Depth: Approximately 10 feet (3 meters) in the upper section
✔ Sections:
Lower section — supervised by safety personnel
Upper section — more relaxed atmosphere
✔️ Good to bring:
Portable chairs, a sunshade (tarp), and plenty of snacks

The lower section is typically managed by safety personnel,
offering a more reassuring environment for swimming.

The upper section is less supervised,
so you'll need to be extra mindful of your own safety.
There are areas with depths reaching up to 10 feet (3 meters),
so if you're not a confident swimmer,
be sure to wear a life jacket and stick to the lower section!
💡 Highly recommended for those who enjoy deeper stream swimming.
Life Jackets

✔ Life Jackets: Free rental available
✔ Strongly recommended for use
You won't need to bring your own life jacket,
as they offer free rentals right here.
Safety personnel are usually on-site to
provide free life jackets.
You just need to provide your name and phone number
to borrow one!
Given the deep sections of the stream,
it's always safest to wear a life jacket
before getting into the water.
✔ If you're visiting with children,
life jackets are an absolute must-have.
Cooking & Restrooms

✔ Cooking: Permitted
✔ Restrooms: 2 facilities

This is a fantastic spot because it's one of the few streams where you can
cook your own food! Imagine grilling some meat on a portable stove
or enjoying a hot bowl of ramen after a refreshing swim –
Dokbawi Recreational Area is truly a top recommendation for that!
The two restrooms are pit-style, which means they can be challenging to keep perfectly clean.
🤢 Honestly, unless it's an absolute emergency, we'd advise against using them.

Dokbawi Recreational Area offers ample parking, making it a less stressful visit compared to Mudangso Recreational Area.
However, remember that parking on the bridge itself is strictly prohibited.
The deeper upper section was great for swimming,
and while life jackets are technically mandatory, we noticed very few people wearing them in that area.
