Florence, Italy -> Paris, France Travel Review
feat. Flying Vueling Airlines
When we planned our honeymoon to include both Italy and France, figuring out how to travel between countries was a big question mark. Most people opt for a flight to get from Italy to France.
I initially thought, "Oh, low-cost flights within Europe can be booked later, right?" I was a bit too laid-back about it. Then, about four months before our trip, when I finally checked, the prices were surprisingly high! 😱 So, just before finalizing our detailed itinerary, I rushed to book the flights first.

It was a great decision to look into inter-country low-cost flights before fully planning our Italian leg. I noticed significant price differences for flights from Rome to Paris, from Southern Italy (like Naples) to Paris, and from Florence to Paris.
So, if you're planning a honeymoon or any trip involving travel between countries, I highly recommend booking your transportation BEFORE you finalize your detailed itinerary! 😉

Booking Details & Cost
When I searched on Skyscanner, Vueling Airlines, sold through Trip.com, offered the cheapest option, so that's what I went with.

Since it was a two-week honeymoon, we had a lot of luggage, so I booked a ticket that included a 55-pound (25kg) checked bag!

Because of the baggage, the price was a bit higher than what you might expect for a low-cost airline. With the checked bag included, it came out to approximately ~$517 for two people.

Vueling Airlines Experience Review
Vueling Airlines has quite a reputation for flight delays. Plus, after we booked, there were some geopolitical tensions, which made us really worried about potential flight cancellations or changes.
Thankfully, there were no changes to our flight schedule or price, and the flight departed and arrived on time without any cancellations! Hooray! 🙌🏻
I was mentally prepared for a delay, just in case, but perhaps because it was an early morning flight, it departed and arrived punctually without any issues.

How to Book Flights for Travel from Italy -> France
For long-haul flights, I usually prefer to book directly through the airline's official website, even if it's a bit more expensive. However, for shorter flights like this, I search on Skyscanner and then book through a reliable, affordable third-party site.

This time, Trip.com, offering Vueling Airlines, was the cheapest option and came up as a recommended provider, so I booked through them.

How to Get to Florence Airport
Florence -> Paris by Plane
The best way to get to Florence Airport (Amerigo Vespucci Airport) is by tram. Florence's airport is conveniently close to the city, so a tram ride from Santa Maria Novella Station only takes about 30 minutes! A one-way tram ticket costs just ~$2.
So, if your flight isn't too early or too late, I highly recommend taking the tram.

Our accommodation was right in front of Santa Maria Novella Station, so we really wanted to take the tram. However, our flight was at 7 AM, and the first tram of the day was at 5:02 AM. With a 30-minute ride, we'd arrive at the airport only 1 hour and 30 minutes before departure, which felt a bit too tight for comfort. So, we decided to take a taxi instead. 😥
Looking back, the airport is quite small, so if the tram runs on schedule, arriving 1 hour and 30 minutes early might have been enough. But then again, there's always a chance of tram delays, so it's best to allow extra time, right?
[How to Take a Taxi]
So, where do you catch a taxi at such an early hour?

There's a large taxi stand at Santa Maria Novella Station.

The taxi stand is located near the crosswalk at the far end of Florence's Santa Maria Novella Station, as indicated by the blue arrow in the left image.

I even looked up Street View to make it easier for you to find, but the last update was in 2021. Things have changed quite a bit since then, but hopefully, it still gives you a general idea of the location.
We worried there wouldn't be many taxis running in the early morning and considered calling an Uber. However, after waiting for less than 5 minutes, a taxi pulled up!
It's a good idea to wait a bit, but if no taxis show up, you might need to use Uber. I recommend installing the Uber app on your phone BEFORE you travel to Italy. Sometimes, you can't install it or receive verification codes when you're already abroad.
We knew the taxi fare was supposedly a fixed rate starting at ~$30 (28 EUR), but when we asked the driver, he said that was an old price. The Uber estimate wasn't too far off from ~$43 (40 EUR), so we just accepted and got in. 😥
But when I checked online after returning home, some sources still mentioned ~$30 (28 EUR)! It's hard to tell if the fixed fare changed or if we were overcharged. So, if your driver quotes a price, it's always worth asking, "Isn't it a fixed rate?" even if I asked and still ended up paying more.

We paid ~$43 (40 EUR) for the taxi.
Oh well, I just figured it included a late-night surcharge and baggage fees. We didn't really have another choice at that hour, haha! 😂

We arrived safely at the airport. This photo was taken at 5:07 AM. Security and check-in were incredibly fast. So, maybe we could have taken the tram after all? (Though I'm such a chicken, I'd probably still take a taxi if I had to do it again.)

[Florence Airport Public Transport Summary]
If you want to use the tram, I recommend booking your Florence flight for 7:30 AM or later. The tram costs just ~$2, while a taxi cost us ~$43. Ouch!
However, if your flight is around 7 AM, I'd still recommend a taxi. Trams in Italy can sometimes go on strike, and they might not always be on time like in some other countries! (Just remember to download the Uber app beforehand, just in case.)
Flight Departure Time | Recommended Transport | Fare (approx.) |
7:30 AM onwards ~ Before last tram | Tram | ~$2 |
12:30 AM onwards ~ Before 7:30 AM | Taxi | ~$43 paid (~$30 fixed rate mentioned) |

[Vueling Airlines Boarding Review]
This time, I was quite satisfied!
The flight departed and arrived on time with no delays. I fell asleep as soon as we took off and woke up already in Paris – it was that smooth! 👍🏻
The author booked a Vueling flight from Florence to Paris four months ago and paid a total of ~$516 for two adult tickets, including 25kg of checked baggage. This amounts to ~$258 per person.
Taking the tram from Florence Santa Maria Novella Station to the airport takes approximately 30 minutes. The one-way fare is 1.7 euros, and the first tram departs at 5:02 AM.
The author took a taxi from Florence Santa Maria Novella Station to Florence Airport and paid 40 euros. The driver mentioned that 28 euros was the old price.
For early morning flights, such as a 7 AM departure, taking a taxi is recommended. Considering the first tram departs at 5:02 AM, arriving at the airport only 1 hour and 30 minutes before your flight might cause anxiety.
