Elif BBQ Liverpool Review: Best Turkish Grill
Discover Elif Turkish BBQ, a beloved local gem on Lark Lane in Liverpool. Read our review of their legendary, massive Karisik mixed grill platter.

They say British food has a bad reputation, but after exploring London, Manchester, and Liverpool, I didn't have a single bad meal. In fact, one of the absolute highlights of my entire trip was a phenomenal Turkish restaurant in Liverpool called Elif!
Since Liverpool is less crowded with typical tourists compared to London, Elif is a genuine local favorite, packed with residents who know exactly where to find the best eats in town.

The interior is cozy, warm, and wonderfully inviting without ever feeling cramped. Some Google reviews mentioned that the service can be a bit hit-or-miss, but we had a perfectly fine experience. They were incredibly busy, which explains why they might seem rushed, but they were still attentive enough.

One of the coolest features is the open kitchen. You can watch the chefs expertly grill the meats right over the open flames, filling the restaurant with an irresistible smoky aroma.

The menu is extensive, but the word on the street is that the Karisik (Mixed Grill) Platter for Two is the absolute best way to go. We ordered it immediately. It's priced at £39.95 (approx. $51), which is an incredible value for the amount of food you get.

I heard their traditional desserts are to die for and wanted to try some, but by the time we finished our mains, we were so incredibly full that we couldn't manage another bite!

To start, they serve a complimentary carrot salad seasoned generously with black pepper alongside a selection of dipping sauces.

About 15 minutes after ordering, the main event arrived. The platter features a mountain of lamb shish, succulent lamb chops, chicken wings, and skewers, all served over a bed of fluffy rice hidden under a thin egg layer.

Believe it or not, this massive spread is meant for just two people! Honestly, three adults could easily share this and leave completely satisfied.

The rice is lightly seasoned, making it the perfect neutral base to pair with the rich, flavorful meats.

I dove straight for the massive lamb chop first. While it might look a little dry in photos, it was unbelievably tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. There wasn't even a hint of that gamey taste that sometimes ruins mediocre lamb dishes.

Every single cut of meat—from the skewers to the chicken wings—was melt-in-your-mouth tender, carrying a beautiful, authentic charcoal-grilled aroma. That said, there was definitely a higher proportion of chicken compared to lamb on the platter, but it was all delicious!

Despite our best efforts, we couldn't even finish half of it. I felt terrible leaving such amazing food behind, but the portions are so notoriously huge that the staff didn't seem surprised at all.

Once you pay the bill, they bring out a complimentary piece of Turkish Delight. It's incredibly sweet, soft, and the perfect way to cleanse your palate after a savory feast.
If you have Liverpool on your travel itinerary, Elif is an absolute must-visit. You won't regret it!
