How to get to Ebisu Brewery?

Is the Free Observation Deck Worth Visiting?

If you have a Tokyo itinerary of 4 days or more,

the Ebisu area of Tokyo is often recommended as a place worth visiting at least once.

With some free time on my last day,

I decided to spend half a day exploring the Nakameguro ~ Ebisu area

and went sightseeing.

The Ebisu area of Tokyo, and Ebisu Place, had a sophisticated atmosphere, different from Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Ginza.

Here’s a summary of things to do at Ebisu Place 🇯🇵

1. Is Ebisu Garden Place Worth Visiting?

With its European-style red brick buildings

and a spacious, open plaza that serves as a fantastic photo spot,

Ebisu Garden Place is truly picturesque.

Some people only know Ebisu Place for its free observation deck, where you can look out over Tokyo city,

but there are actually quite a few fun things to do here!

Everything is indoors, making it perfect for a rainy day!

It seems like a great addition to your Tokyo itinerary.

The first floor features a plaza and walkways where you can stroll,

and it's largely divided into two main buildings.

While there are many shops and diverse restaurants,

I wouldn't highlight any as absolute must-try dining spots.

So, I recommend having your meals at nearby eateries

and at Ebisu Garden Place,

Ebisu Brewery ➔ Milk Place Ice Cream ➔ Free Observation Deck ➔ KALDI and Supermarket Shopping

this itinerary was definitely worth about 3 hours of my time.

I'll also briefly share some information and my review for each spot on the itinerary.

Ebisu Brewery Tokyo

The Tokyo Beer Museum, whose exterior is already an Instagrammable spot,

is home to <Ebisu Brewery Tokyo>.

You can learn about beer history through a guided tour,

and there’s even a sampler where you can immediately taste draft beer.

For beer lovers, this might just be a must-visit spot in Tokyo.

Unfortunately,

it was closed on the day I visited, so I couldn't try the sampler.

Therefore, for those reading this, please be sure to check the operating hours!

Ebisu Garden Free Observation Deck

Tokyo boasts numerous observation decks,

and I've visited 5 of them, both free and paid.

This one? It's about average.

Since it's free, why not check it out while you're at Ebisu Garden?

Just take the elevator up to the 38th floor.

The 38th and 39th floors are open to external visitors,

but the floors below are offices,

so make sure not to wander into any restricted areas!

A Free Observatory with Tokyo Tower Views

Most free observatories usually offer a single viewpoint rather than a 360-degree panorama,

but this one was unique because it overlooked Tokyo Tower.

There aren't any seats in the free observatory area,

so it's not meant for a long stay.

You can just pop in, enjoy the view briefly indoors, and then head back down.

Perhaps it's because the businesses housed in Ebisu Garden Place are mainly in finance

and other high-paying sectors,

but the 38th and 39th floors were home to many upscale restaurants.

Think Omakase and multi-course meals!

These are places where you can dine while enjoying those incredible views,

so if you're interested, reservations are an absolute must for these restaurants!

Ice Cream at Ebisu Place

Ice Cream Time Before or After the Observatory!

Milk Place, located on the first floor of the same building as the free observatory,

seemed to be the most popular spot.

I enjoyed my ice cream in a cone indoors,

and that clean, milky flavor was just delightful~

And Blue Seal, which you might recognize from Okinawa,

also has a spot on the first floor.

So, you can grab an ice cream at either Milk Place or Blue Seal, depending on your preference,

and take a little break.

Also, around lunchtime for office workers, roughly 11 AM to 2 PM,

you'll find plenty of food trucks parked in front of Ebisu Place Plaza.

If a fancy restaurant meal feels a bit much,

but you want a quick bite, this is a great option too!

Shopping at the Supermarket and Kaldi Coffee Farm

Of course, the grand finale is shopping!

Since you'll be accumulating bags, it's best to save this for your last stop.

Compared to Kaldi Coffee Farms in other tourist areas,

this one was far less crowded, making for a much more pleasant shopping experience.

Plus, they had a generous stock of all the popular items, which was fantastic.

Right next door, there's a local supermarket,

and let me tell you, it was the absolute best quality I've seen in any Japanese supermarket so far!

I've heard that Japanese office workers often grab quick meals

at supermarkets or convenience stores.

Perhaps because this is an office building, there was an even wider array of instant meal options?

The prices were incredibly reasonable, and the quality was restaurant-level!

Even though I wasn't super hungry,

the sight of this egg sandwich was simply irresistible, so I just had to grab one!

It was incredibly soft, with that perfect sweet and savory balance!

There are also plenty of seats right in front of the supermarket,

so you can buy your instant meal and enjoy it right away.

✅ So, Ebisu Place Itinerary: Recommended?

I truly think this is an excellent itinerary, especially on a rainy day.

And if you're a beer lover,

this approximately 3-hour course is definitely worth adding to your itinerary!
