When you travel to Japan,
Don Quijote is a must-visit, right?!
But when you search for recommendations,
you always seem to find the same old snacks.
So this time, based on 2026,
I've put together a list of newly popular snacks
that are trending right now :)
I've even meticulously listed the prices,
so save this post and refer to it when you travel to Japan

Morinaga BAKE Creamy Cheesecake
10 pieces for 388 yen (~$2)
This new snack was my absolute favorite!!!
(I'm a cheesecake fanatic, so hehe)
The original BAKE series was famous for its chocolate flavor,
but this rich, creamy cheesecake flavor is trending now.
The outside has a slightly baked, cookie-like texture,
while the inside boasts a rich cheese cream flavor,
making it feel like you're eating a tiny cheesecake.
It's a perfect match with iced Americano!
The size is smaller than I expected, just a bite-sized treat ㅠㅠ
Next time, I plan to buy about 10 of them!
Mintia Pineapple Flavor
Small size 129 yen (~$1)
Large size 237 yen (~$1)
Mintia is already a staple on Japan's must-buy list, isn't it?
The peach and grape flavors were already super popular,
and now a new pineapple flavor has been released!
It's both refreshing and sweet,
not as intense as regular mints, which I really liked.
Most people tend to buy the large size!
The small ones are a bit too tiny and inconvenient to eat, haha.
They often have bundle deals, so if there's a promotion,
it's much cheaper to stock up on several.
Glico Pucchin Pudding
6 pieces for 237 yen (~$1)
This is a bite-sized version of that classic pudding
you've probably tried at a Japanese convenience store!
The rich caramel and smooth pudding flavors
are perfectly preserved,
making it great for kids' snacks too.
Personally, I prefer the chocolate flavor, haha.
Bourbon Alfort Matcha
12 pieces for 259 yen (~$2)
When it comes to Japanese chocolate gifts,
Alfort is an absolute must-have, right?
While the classic milk chocolate and coffee flavors are delicious,
the matcha flavor is currently the most popular.
The rich Uji matcha aroma pairs wonderfully with the biscuit,
so if you're a matcha lover like me,
you'll likely be very satisfied!
Just a heads-up: chocolate can melt easily in the summer,
so when you head home, I recommend using a cooler bag
or placing it deep inside your suitcase :)

Kororo Jelly Matcha Flavor
215 yen (~$1)
Kororo jellies are an absolute must-have from Japanese convenience stores!
And now, they've released a new matcha flavor.
It's wonderfully plump and bouncy on the outside,
with a delicate matcha aroma that spreads beautifully on the inside.
It has a completely different charm compared to the usual fruity flavors.
If you're a matcha lover,
you absolutely have to give this a try! :)
Jonetsu Vegetable Tempura Snack
863 yen (~$5)
This was hands down the most unique snack I found on this trip.
Made by frying up a colorful variety of real veggies like kabocha squash, lotus root, eggplant, and okra,
the texture is incredibly crispy and perfectly savory.
It really preserves the natural flavors of the vegetables,
making it impossible to stop reaching for more! haha
Highly recommended, especially if you're looking for the ultimate beer snack!
It's a little on the pricier side,
but the generous portion size makes it totally worth it.
Semi-Dried Roasted Sweet Potato Chews
539 yen (~$3)
If you're a sweet potato fan, you absolutely have to add this to your basket.
They are so much more moist than regular dried sweet potato strips,
and because they are semi-dried, it feels like you're eating actual freshly-roasted sweet potatoes.
Each piece is individually wrapped,
making them perfect for on-the-go snacking during your trip,
or for enjoying one by one once you're back home.
Roasted Sweet Potato Spread
431 yen (~$3)
This is another super trendy, must-buy item on Don Quijote shopping lists lately!
Just spread it on bread, pop it in the air fryer
or toaster,
and you've got yourself an instant roasted sweet potato toast!
It's smooth and sweet like sweet potato mousse,
a flavor that kids will absolutely love too.
If you're a sweet potato fanatic, this makes a wonderful souvenir! :)
I also tried the mentaiko (pollock roe) and garlic spreads
that were displayed right next to the sweet potato spread,
but honestly, I really didn't like them at all... T_T
Skip these and grab the spreads from Kaldi Coffee Farm instead!
Kaldi's are cheaper and taste so much better.

The days of bringing back only KitKats are long gone!
These days, there are so many unique treats you can only find in Japan—
like new matcha releases, cheesecake cookies,
the roasted sweet potato series, and crispy tempura snacks.
It makes shopping so much more exciting! haha
