Dai Po Teppanyaki Kaohsiung Review: Affordable Eats

Let's talk about an amazing dinner spot in Kaohsiung!

While prices in Taiwan have definitely gone up recently,

I managed to find an incredibly budget-friendly teppanyaki restaurant

that you absolutely have to check out.

Dai Po Teppanyaki

"Teppanyaki" is the Japanese word for iron-plate cooking.

Since I absolutely love teppanyaki,

I saved a few potential spots on Google Maps before my trip,

and this one fit my daily route perfectly.

On my way from the hotel,

I took a lovely stroll through Kaohsiung Central Park

to admire the holiday lights... ☆

I completely forgot to take a photo of the storefront and just walked right in!

Maybe I had "tourist" written all over my face,

because the staff handed me a multilingual menu right away.

I expected it to be a hyper-local joint,

but it seems they get quite a few international visitors!

Meats (Beef, Pork, Lamb, Chicken): ~$6

Tenderloin Steak, Beef Short Ribs: ~$8

Scallops & Mushrooms, Scallops, Mixed Seafood: ~$7

Seafood & Fish: ~$6

They also offer single-person set meals in addition to à la carte

(and each à la carte item comes with a complimentary bowl of rice!).

I ended up sitting right in the middle.

The restaurant features a large L-shaped iron griddle

with counter seating wrapping entirely around it.

Since I ordered the tenderloin steak and the scallops + mushrooms,

they served me two bowls of rice (one for each dish)...

I thought about sending one back, but I was absolutely starving

and the bowls weren't too deep, so I just kept them both! lol

My stomach had been feeling a bit sensitive earlier,

so I reluctantly skipped the beer

and grabbed a cup of the complimentary winter melon tea and black tea instead.

They also had a self-serve seaweed soup station

which was a fantastic, cozy bonus!

As soon as you sit down,

they immediately start grilling up a side of cabbage and bean sprouts for you.

The cabbage was seasoned with a light, savory sauce

that hit the spot perfectly.

Honestly, I could have finished a whole bowl of rice just with this side dish!

Of course, teppanyaki is all about the beef, right?!

The beef stir-fried with onions arrived next.

They place a sheet of foil directly in front of each person

and stack the freshly cooked dishes on it one by one.

I absolutely adore this classic teppanyaki vibe.

The sizzling sounds really build up your appetite,

and watching them cook right in front of you

guarantees that every bite is piping hot.

Plus, the heated iron plate keeps the food warm throughout the meal.

It's a fantastic dining experience all around... ♥

There were plenty of other solo diners here,

making it an incredibly welcoming spot

for solo travelers looking for a great meal!
