1. Concluding Our Trip: A Visit to Apsan Observatory

I recently enjoyed a fantastic 2-day, 1-night trip to Daegu with my older brother's family.
With my family reunited after a long time, we made the most of every spot, and before we knew it, the day had simply flown by!
On the evening of our last day, before my older brother's family headed back to Seoul,
we decided to enjoy a scenic night drive around Daegu.

As I pondered how to best cherish the grand finale of our trip,
we decided to head to Daegu's Apsan Observatory, a place where you can take in a breathtaking panoramic city view and a truly romantic sunset all at once.

We ascended to the Apsan Sunset Observatory in the late afternoon, enjoying the cool, refreshing breeze, and were treated to the most stunning crimson sunset painting the sky.
It was a truly memorable moment where all my family members could forget the summer heat and genuinely feel the unique charm of Daegu, surrounded by that wonderful breeze.
Apsan Observatory is truly a fantastic spot for a Daegu night drive, so I'll be sure to share all the details on its location, parking, how to get there, and even some nearby attractions worth exploring!
2. Location and Parking Information

Daegu Apsan Observatory, a fantastic spot to catch a breathtaking sunset on your Daegu drive, perfectly blends nature with the urban landscape.
Being able to enjoy both city and natural views together truly made it even more spectacular than I had imagined!

We actually visited by my older brother's car and used the convenient Apsan Pallaeteo Park Public Parking Lot.

Parking Fee
For standard vehicles, parking is free for up to 1 hour.
After the first hour, it was ~$0 for the initial 30 minutes,
and ~$0 for every additional 10 minutes.
While the parking fees are already incredibly low,
please note that there are also discount benefits for vehicles that comply with the weekday alternate driving system,
multi-child family vehicles, compact cars, and eco-friendly vehicles, so keep that in mind!

After parking, take the elevator up, and you'll find yourself at the park.

From the park to the observatory, a gently sloped wooden deck path awaits, making for an easy, comfortable stroll not just for children, but also for seniors – truly no burden at all!

Right next door, you'll find the delightful Apsan Cafe Street, easily reachable within about 10 minutes by car or on foot from the observatory.
This charming area is filled with atmospheric cafes housed in beautifully renovated traditional homes, where you can indulge in delicious pastries. There are also plenty of lovely restaurants, perfect for a romantic date or a delightful meal after your observatory visit, making it an ideal spot to grab a coffee or dinner.

Just near the Apsan Sunset Observatory, starting from Apsan Pallaeteo Park,
the Apsan Jilak-gil walking trail connects, making it a fantastic spot for a leisurely hike.
Once the sweltering summer heat passes, you'll be able to enjoy even wider, more breathtaking panoramic views of Daegu!
If you're just looking for a light visit during your Daegu trip, like we did, simply ascending to the observatory is more than enough to soak in some truly magnificent views!
3. Daegu's Night Drive: Views from the Observatory

Twirling along the gentle deck road,
even as we wound our way up,
the sunset looked absolutely magnificent.
I worried that my preschooler niece might find it difficult to climb up,
but she dashed up faster than anyone,
waving her hand and calling, "Auntie, hurry up!"
She was so excited!

I thought this was the perfect spot for a Daegu night drive,
and seeing the clear daytime sky transform into an orange and pink
gradient was absolutely breathtaking.

Once we reached the top of the observatory tower,
Daegu's city jungle of buildings and the surrounding mountains
came together to create a spectacular panorama.

As dusk settled, the observatory itself began to glow with soft ambient lighting,
turning the walking paths into perfect spots for stunning photos.
It's an ideal Daegu drive course where you can park and take a quick break to explore —
an unassuming yet deeply moving
attraction that doesn't feel overwhelming.

At the very top of the observatory, there's a small
indoor exhibition space where my niece and I looked around and
even took some photos in front of a lovely flower sculpture.

The bridge that crosses the Apsan Beltway road at the top of the observatory
and leads towards the mountain is
called the 'Apsan Sky Bridge'.

This place is often called 'Ojakgyo Bridge of Love',
and along with its heart-shaped sculptures, it's a popular photo zone for couples
who come to capture memories. With various events held here, too,
Apsan Sunset Observatory offers more to see and do
than you might expect.

After descending from the beautifully lit observatory,
you'll find yourself back at Apsan Laundry Site Park's grassy plaza.

It's an open green space where many citizens come for their Daegu night drive,
whether to exercise or walk their dogs, creating such a heartwarming atmosphere.
The spacious area also hosts various festivals and
events throughout the seasons.

Inspired by the history and waterways of the old laundry site,
there are water features recreating the traditional laundry area.
My niece enjoyed wandering along the wall fountain and stream,
savoring the refreshing sounds of the artificial waterfall.
In springtime, this area is famous as a hotspot for weeping cherry blossoms,
with its beautiful pink flowers.
4. Wrapping Up Our Daegu Adventure (Reluctantly!)

From the vibrant sunset painting the sky red, to the gentle urban night view blending with nature,

then on a clear, beautiful day, take a scenic night drive through Daegu,
and come up to Apsan Observatory for a moment of serene relaxation.
We truly hope you'll make the time to experience it.

After parking, take the elevator to the park. From the park, you can walk up a gentle wooden deck ramp to the observatory. This path has a mild incline, making it comfortable for both children and seniors to walk up at a leisurely pace.
Yes, Apsan Cafe Street is located right next to Apsan Observatory. Within about a 10-minute drive or walk from the observatory, you'll find a concentration of charming cafes converted from old houses and restaurants perfect for a date.
Apsan Ppalraeteo Park features water attractions recreated with the history and waterways of an old laundry site as their motif. You can enjoy the refreshing sound of water flowing along the wall fountain waterfall and stream garden, and it's also famous as a popular spot for viewing pink weeping cherry blossoms in spring.
