Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to Chinari, an incredible Chinese restaurant that's the perfect pit stop before you dive into your Gapyeong getaway.
Located in Cheongpyeong on the route from Seoul to Gapyeong, Chinari offers unbeatable convenience. There's even a large supermarket nearby, making it super easy to grab groceries for your Gapyeong pension after a delicious meal. It's truly a seamless transition!

Chinari in Cheongpyeong is closed every Tuesday. Keep in mind their break time is from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, so plan your visit outside of these hours. I personally found it incredibly convenient to eat here first, then head to the nearby Cheongpyeong Hanaro Mart for groceries before checking into my Gapyeong pension. The flow was perfect!
Why It's Called a Chinese Food Hotspot
With Jajangmyeon starting at ~$5 and Jjamppong at ~$6, plus popular Chinese dishes like Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), Cream Shrimp, Palbochae (eight treasure stir-fry), and Yangjangpi (cold jellyfish salad) all priced at a flat ~$10, you can enjoy a fantastic meal without breaking the bank.
When my group of five visited, we ordered one rice dish and 2-3 main dishes, and the total came out to a super budget-friendly ~$41. Talk about value!
My Honest Review After Trying It
Here’s my honest take on Chinari Cheongpyeong, a place my whole family thoroughly enjoyed:
✔️ Tangsuyuk (Sweet and Sour Pork) / ~$10
You can't have a Chinese meal without Tangsuyuk! The pork was wonderfully thick, offering a satisfying bite. The sauce tasted like a classic, perfectly balanced sweet and sour, not overly sugary, making it a hit with everyone, including my parents.
✔️ Cream Shrimp / ~$10
The cream shrimp here had a unique twist – a subtle peanut flavor in the batter, which added a delicious nutty depth. Served over a bed of crisp lettuce with a zesty lemon cream sauce, it was a delightful combination of savory and refreshing.
✔️ Japchae-bap (Stir-fried Glass Noodles with Rice) / ~$6
The Japchae-bap was a winner, loaded with plenty of vegetables and chewy glass noodles. The generous portion of japchae on top was fantastic. It had a subtly spicy kick balanced by the savory richness, making it incredibly addictive!
✔️ Jajangmyeon (Black Bean Noodles) / ~$5
What can I say about this classic? It was such a nostalgic treat to see corn and peas as toppings – a clear sign of a truly delicious Jajangmyeon!
✔️ Jjamppong (Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup) / ~$6
I'm usually a Jajangmyeon loyalist, but surprisingly, the Jjamppong here completely stole my heart! It had an incredible smoky flavor, and the generous portions of vegetables and seafood made the broth absolutely outstanding.
Who Would Love This Place?
Chinari was truly a delightful meal before our Gapyeong trip! If you're a fan of Chinese cuisine, you absolutely have to give it a try. The prices are incredibly reasonable, and its proximity to Hanaro Mart makes it an ideal stop before or after your Gapyeong adventure.
