How to Book the Cheapest Flights to Tokyo

Last autumn, around late October, I took an incredible trip to Tokyo. Now that fall is rolling around again, I've been reminiscing over my travel photos and noticed so many friends planning their own autumn getaways to Japan. Naturally, I couldn't resist jumping online to check current flight prices!

For my trip last year, I wanted maximum comfort because my back was acting up, so I skipped the budget airlines and booked a full-service carrier (Asiana Airlines) for around ~$320. It wasn't the absolute cheapest option, but it was worth it for the extra legroom and peace of mind.

However, looking at the current flight deals for 2026, I found options for as low as ~$128—literally half of what I paid! If you want to maximize your travel budget, check out my tips below on how to score these ultra-low rates.

Since I wasn't feeling 100% and had some back pain during my last trip, I decided to spend a little extra on a full-service airline rather than low-cost carriers.

There's nothing quite like enjoying a decent in-flight meal and landing in Tokyo before you know it.

My 3-day, 2-night itinerary was packed with shopping, relaxing by the hotel pool, and eating delicious local food. And of course, the weather on the day of departure was absolutely perfect—isn't that always how it goes? Haha.

Before boarding, I made sure to stop by the duty-free shops at the airport. I picked up some of those famous New York Perfect Cheese cookies (seriously, they are heavenly!) and browsed the Tiffany & Co. boutique. I wanted to check out a new release bracelet, but they didn't have it in stock yet, so I tried on the classic Tiffany T Smile bracelet instead. It looked stunning!

I also spent some relaxing downtime at the airport lounge before boarding my Asiana flight back home, enjoying one last meal on board. It was a perfect trip, and looking back at these photos makes me want to book another ticket immediately.

When planning, most people start their search on Skyscanner. Currently, budget round-trip tickets are hovering around the ~$128 range. But as a seasoned traveler, I always double-check alternative platforms to see if I can beat Skyscanner's prices. Surprisingly, I found even cheaper deals elsewhere!

Using a departure date of 10/12/2026 for comparison:

On Skyscanner, a reliable round-trip ticket with Jeju Air was listed at around ~$173.

But when I dug a bit deeper on alternative booking engines, I found a combined itinerary using Eastar Jet and Korean Air for just ~$166!

Plus, if you book around late September, you can often grab additional discount coupons for both flights and accommodations, bringing that price down even further.
