Finding affordable accommodation in Barcelona can be a serious challenge, especially as hotel prices continue to soar in 2026. Finding a budget-friendly spot that doesn't compromise on quality is tough 🥲
I had originally booked another place, but after a sudden, let's just say, pest control issue, I had to scramble for a last-minute replacement. I needed something with a great location, and miraculously, even during the peak season, I found a room for 4 nights for around ~$462.
That's how I ended up booking the Casa Gracia Hostel.
Despite a few minor hiccups at the beginning, the unbeatable location, wallet-friendly price, and stylish rooms made for a fantastic stay. If you're looking for a great value base in the city, here is my honest review!

Casa Gracia Hostel Location

Since I rely entirely on walking and public transit when I travel, location is my top priority.
The location of Casa Gracia is phenomenal. It's situated right near the famous Passeig de Gràcia, the bustling heart of Barcelona.
You are incredibly close to Gaudí's masterpieces: Casa Milà is just a 6-minute walk away, and Casa Batlló is a 12-minute stroll.
Plus, the Diagonal Metro Station is a mere 2-minute walk from the front door. This made navigating Barcelona's subway system incredibly easy, even for late-night itineraries.
The surrounding neighborhood is well-lit and always has plenty of foot traffic, making it feel very safe to walk around at night.

Booking Casa Gracia Hostel

At Casa Gracia Hostel, you can book their most affordable Double Rooms starting around ~$108 per night.
They offer a wide variety of room configurations, including Single Rooms, Standard Apartments, Deluxe Rooms, and Dormitories (4-bed/6-bed), all at very reasonable price points.
Keep in mind that when you check into any hotel in Barcelona, you are required to pay an additional city tax, so it's smart to save money on the actual room rate whenever possible! 😎
For my trip, I booked a Double Room for 4 nights at ~$454, and paid an additional €44 in city tax upon check-in.

Casa Gracia Hostel Review
Double Room

Casa Gracia Hostel actually has two main entrances. Once you walk inside, the two buildings are connected, and you'll find the check-in counter near the left entrance :)
This is just my guess, but it seems like one building was the original hostel, and they expanded into the neighboring building during renovations. The two sides of the interior definitely have slightly different vibes!

Because the hostel is quite large and accommodates a lot of guests, the 1-2 staff members at the front desk can get overwhelmed. If you arrive exactly at the 3 PM check-in time, expect a bit of a line.
Check-in involves verifying your passport and booking details, and the city tax was paid via credit card on the spot.
We received one key card for the two of us and headed up via the elevator.
To be honest, the elevators are old-school manual ones, so they aren't the fastest, and there are only two for the building. But considering how many historic European buildings don't have elevators at all, I was just incredibly grateful I didn't have to lug my heavy suitcase up the stairs! 😂

The interior looks freshly renovated.
The vibrant, colorful, and geometric hallways honestly gave me major Squid Game vibes—but in a very clean, aesthetic way!
Guest rooms are spread across the 2nd to 6th floors. The room numbers are clearly marked, making it surprisingly easy to navigate the sprawling hallways.
Casa Gracia Hostel Room Review
Double Room
Wi-Fi / Private Bathroom / Air Conditioning / Balcony

My friend and I stayed in a Double Room.
Looking back at the Agoda listing, I think we actually got upgraded to the slightly pricier "Double Room with Balcony"!
The space was surprisingly roomy, featuring two clean single beds, wonderfully crisp air conditioning, and a great view of the street below. We absolutely loved it.
Each bed had its own personal reading light, power outlet, and a mini nightstand, which made our 4-night stay incredibly comfortable.
(Pro tip: There's a little shelf right above the headboard where you can rest your phone while it charges!)

There was plenty of wardrobe and hanging space.
We were able to unpack our jackets and dresses right away, hit them with a travel steamer, and hang them up, which made getting ready each day so much easier.
Having access to the balcony was a huge plus.
We used it to soak in the neighborhood views in the mornings and occasionally to dry our damp clothes :)
Seriously, isn't the view beautiful? 🥹

The bathroom was a decent size, separated by a half-glass shower partition.
Overall, the white aesthetic made it feel very bright and hygienic.
They provided a hairdryer and plenty of fresh, clean towels, so we had zero complaints during our stay!
Communal Facilities
Kitchen / Common Areas

You might be wondering, "Why isn't there a mini-fridge in the room?"
That's the trade-off for the affordable price point—this is still a hostel at heart, so there's a large communal kitchen on the ground floor.
You can simply write your name on a bag and store your beers, fruits, and snacks in the shared refrigerators. You can also cook simple meals here if you want to save some money on dining out.

Beyond the kitchen, the common areas are massive.
The interior design is eclectic and fun, with the space divided into various distinct zones depending on your mood.
I noticed a lot of digital nomads utilizing the areas with plenty of power outlets, bringing down their laptops and snacks to get some work done during the day!

Additionally, there are vending machines for late-night cravings, and a paid coin laundry setup (washers and dryers), which is a lifesaver for longer Europe trips.
By the way, this common area is also where breakfast is served if you opt in. Walking through in the morning, the smell of freshly baked bread from the breakfast trays was absolutely heavenly 👀

Casa Gracia Hostel Final Verdict

If you're hunting for a budget-friendly stay in Barcelona,
Casa Gracia Barcelona hits the trifecta: amazing location, incredible value, and solid facilities.
Full disclosure: the very first room we were assigned felt a bit stuffy, and the AC wasn't working properly. However, we requested a room change, and the second room they gave us was absolutely perfect.
I know online reviews for hostels can be a mixed bag, so here's my honest take: obviously, the amenities won't rival a luxury hotel. But during my stay, the place was spotless (zero bed bugs!), the surrounding neighborhood was top-tier, and the facilities were clean and modern.
Getting a price this good during the peak European summer season is rare. The staff might have had a bit of that typical gruff European charm, but they were ultimately very helpful when we needed them.
For a budget-friendly base camp in Barcelona, I highly recommend Casa Gracia :)
