🇪🇸Our 4-Day Barcelona Adventure🇪🇸
My partner stumbled upon Casa Alfonso while browsing Google Maps, and it quickly became one of the most memorable dining experiences of our trip.
As it was our very first taste of authentic Spanish jamón and pa amb tomàquet, this spot truly holds a special place in our hearts! ✨
Ready for our honest, self-funded review? Let's go!✍🏻
Our Barcelona Jamón Hotspot After a Gothic Quarter Night Tour
Our enchanting Gothic Quarter night tour with guide Hamincheol wrapped up around 9:00 PM. We parted ways near Plaça de Catalunya, and it was then we realized that 9:00 PM is actually prime dinner time in Spain!
Heading out for dinner right after the tour felt perfectly timed.
Knowing we'd be out late, we wanted a restaurant as close as possible to our accommodation, Room Mate Pau, for an easy stroll back.
📍 Plaça de Catalunya Plaça de Catalunya, Eixample, 08002 Barcelona, Spain
📍 Casa Alfonso Carrer de Roger de Llúria, 6, Eixample, 08010 Barcelona, Spain
Among the many options, my partner diligently searched Google Maps for highly-rated spots, and that's how we discovered the fantastic Barcelona jamón restaurant, Casa Alfonso.

Our Spontaneous Visit to the Outdoor Terrace
We arrived without a reservation. Since it was peak dinner time for many, all the indoor tables were occupied, so we happily settled for a spot on the outdoor terrace.
Dining al fresco on the terrace was lovely; the atmosphere was fantastic and truly made us feel like we were enjoying a European getaway. However, we later discovered during payment that there was an additional charge for terrace seating.
While the staff was friendly, it was a bit disappointing that there was no verbal mention of this additional terrace fee beforehand.
❗️Heads up: Be aware of the extra charge if you plan to sit on the terrace!❗️
(Looking back at photos, we did spot a tiny note at the bottom of the menu indicating a 10% terrace surcharge, but it was easily missed.)
Casa Alfonso Menu, Prices, & 10% Terrace Surcharge
Let's dive into the Casa Alfonso menu! I made sure to snap plenty of photos so I could remember all our delicious choices.
Tapas and Main Dishes
Beer, Wine, and Other Beverages
A Perfect Barcelona Evening with Wine
We ordered a bottle of Lagar de Cervera Albariño🍷. It was absolutely lovely and made for a great memory to capture.
They even brought us an ice bucket to keep our wine perfectly chilled throughout the meal.
Our First Taste of Spanish Jamón and Tapas
Ibérico Jamón Grande (~$27)
And then, the moment arrived—our Ibérico Jamón! Being our first time trying jamón in Spain, it was simply out-of-this-world delicious. The pairing of a delicate slice of jamón with a sip of wine was truly heavenly. Absolutely divine! ✨
Pa amb tomàquet (~$4)
TOMATO BREAD
This was our first experience with pa amb tomàquet, and honestly, who knew something so simple could be so incredibly tasty? It's essentially crispy baguette bread topped with fresh tomato. It was so good, my partner even tried making it at home after we returned!
And yes, topping the pa amb tomàquet with a slice of jamón? Pure bliss!
Ibérico Chorizo 1/2 (~$9)
With some wine left, we decided to order another dish. While the Ibérico jamón was unbelievably smooth and memorable, the Ibérico chorizo, though tasty and perfectly salty for a wine accompaniment, didn't stand out quite as much for us.🍷
Gambas al Ajillo (~$15)
This was exactly the gambas we know and love: succulent shrimp swimming in garlic-infused olive oil. Although the portion size felt a little small for the price, it was still a delicious and satisfying accompaniment to our wine.
Our Casa Alfonso Review: Worth the Visit?
Despite the minor disappointment of not being informed about the terrace surcharge upfront, the service was friendly, and all the food was absolutely delicious. We would definitely visit again!
I'm already dreaming of returning to Barcelona for more wine and jamón...!
Even after we finished our meal and were heading back to our hotel, people were still patiently waiting in line for a table at Casa Alfonso, a testament to this beloved Barcelona jamón spot.
And that's a wrap on our happy journal!✨
