How to Book Renfe Trains in Spain
Traveling from Barcelona to Valencia by Train
Words & Photos by Jinsaengsu
Hey everyone, Jinsaengsu here!
Our honeymoon is just around the corner, only about 50 days left until we jet off to Spain!🇪🇸
During our trip, my fiancé’s favorite team, Real Madrid, has an away game scheduled in Valencia. So, on a whim, we decided to make a spontaneous trip to Valencia to catch the match!

Even though I’ve traveled extensively through Spain before, Valencia will be a new experience for me. Initially, I just assumed we'd fly, but after looking into it, considering the time spent traveling to the airport, checking in, and going through security, taking the train seemed like a much better option.
When you think of Spanish trains, you think of Renfe!

If you've traveled in Spain, you've probably heard of Renfe. I've used Renfe several times on previous trips and always found it incredibly convenient, so naturally, I headed straight to the Renfe website this time too.
But what if you can't book on the Renfe website?

I tried to check the Barcelona to Valencia timetable on the official Renfe website, but I kept encountering connection errors, and the schedules wouldn't load properly.

At first, I thought I was doing something wrong. But after a bit of searching, I discovered that travelers accessing the Renfe website from outside Spain often experience errors due to VPNs or network environments.
Booking Renfe tickets elsewhere!
Thankfully, you don't have to rely solely on the Renfe official website. You can easily book Spanish train tickets through popular travel platforms like Klook, MyRealTrip, and Trip.com.
For our round-trip tickets on November 8th-9th, 2026, the fares were as follows. Keep in mind that prices tend to increase as the travel date approaches, so I highly recommend checking fares and booking your tickets in advance!
| Klook | MyRealTrip | Trip.com |
Barcelona → Valencia Renfe One-Way Fare | ~$65 | ~$65 | ~$56 |
All three platforms offer easy-to-navigate interfaces in English. Simply select your desired time, choose your seat, ticket type, and complete the payment – it's that easy!

I was so frustrated trying to get the Renfe website to work just to check a timetable, but it turns out there's a much simpler way!
I wish I had known this sooner!
