Many travelers heading to Spain often kick off their adventure by arriving in Barcelona.

While Barcelona city itself boasts incredible attractions, its surrounding areas are equally stunning and definitely not to be missed.

Today, I'll share tour information and a review for one of these fantastic day trips: Montserrat Monastery and Sitges, both visitable in a single day!

Montserrat Monastery & Sitges Tour Information

First, let me tell you about the Montserrat Monastery and Sitges tour I experienced.

Here's the itinerary:

This simple itinerary takes you to two nearby destinations. At Montserrat, you can explore the basilica, see the Black Madonna, listen to the boys' choir, or even enjoy some trekking. In Sitges, you'll soak up the charming coastal vibes.

There are about five local agencies operating this tour.

Among them, I chose the Nomad Benz tour.

My reason for booking was simple: the itinerary was the same as other tours, but the price was lower, and with an overwhelming number of positive reviews, it seemed highly likely to depart without cancellations.

My Tour Review

Next, I'll share my overall review of the tour.

Tour Meeting & Travel

The tour began with a 7:30 AM meeting in front of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Passeig de Gràcia.

It was conducted in a large bus capable of accommodating over 40 people, and the comfortable seats made the journey smooth and enjoyable.

After about a 50-minute drive from the city, Montserrat's distinctive rocky mountains began to appear.

Even before arriving, the unique landscape unfolding outside the window already had me feeling excited.

Montserrat Monastery Leg

We reached Montserrat Monastery, the first stop of our tour, in about an hour.

The view from in front of the monastery was truly similar to what I'd seen in photos.

It was incredibly fascinating to imagine how they ever conceived of building a monastery in such a high place.

While the rocky mountain backdrop was magnificent, the way it blended with the monastery was simply exquisite, making every corner a perfect photo spot.

For about an hour, we followed our guide and listened to a comprehensive explanation of the monastery.

Even though neither my husband nor I are affiliated with the religion, our guide's stories were truly fascinating.

Afterward, we continued with our guide to explore the interior of the cathedral and view the Black Madonna.

Instead of queuing up for the cathedral interior, we decided to embrace a more active adventure with a light trek.

Due to time constraints, we took a one-way funicular ticket up to the summit viewpoint.

Trekking on the way down meant it wasn't too strenuous at all.

As the funicular whisked us upwards, the monastery unfolded before our eyes – an absolutely spectacular sight!

Flanked by dramatic rocky peaks, with the monastery nestled gracefully in between, it truly felt like stepping into a fairy tale.

The Spanish landscape unfolding below us as we trekked down was utterly breathtaking.

With flat plains stretching endlessly to the horizon, the crisp, sweeping vistas were simply magnificent.

Seriously, every photo we snapped here looked like a postcard!

As you descend, you'll also encounter the Cross of Sant Miquel.

This gem is only about a 20-minute walk from the monastery, so even if you've already explored the cathedral's interior, I absolutely recommend making the extra effort to come this far.

(Trust me, the views from this spot alone are worth it!)

After our trek, which clocked in at just over an hour, we got to experience a truly unique tasting: liqueurs and traditional spirits crafted by the monks themselves using age-old methods.

Despite their potent kick, they were surprisingly sweet and utterly delicious.

They made for perfect souvenirs, so we couldn't resist buying a whole stash on the spot!

Next door, the souvenir shop beckoned, and we found ourselves admiring some fantastic magnets.

They had so many perfect keepsakes to remember Montserrat by!

Beyond that, you'll find plenty of other delightful local treasures worth picking up, like olive oil and cheese. Spending some extra time browsing here is definitely a fun way to round out your visit!

With some time to spare in Montserrat, we followed our guide's excellent recommendation for a hearty buffet lunch.

While the food was generally straightforward, the real bonus was the unlimited refills of beverages, including beer and wine!

But the absolute highlight? Snagging a window seat meant dining with those spectacular Montserrat views right before us – an experience that felt priceless and truly worth every penny!

Sitges

After an unforgettable time at Montserrat, we set off and, about an hour later, found ourselves in the charming coastal town of Sitges.

We made our way to the beachfront with our guide, soaking in his insightful commentary along the way.

As we strolled through, Sitges revealed a delightful charm in its labyrinthine alleys, a stark contrast to the more bustling city centers.

Upon arriving at the Sitges beach photo spot,

our guide helped us capture some memorable photos,

and then we had about two hours of free time to explore.

We wandered through the charming alleys, feeling a little lost (in the best way!),

and truly soaked in the unique vibe of Sitges.

There were so many restaurants and cafes with lovely terrace seating,

and it definitely had that subtle, local small-town charm.

You know, instead of eating at Montserrat,

it would be absolutely wonderful to enjoy a late lunch here,

savoring the amazing atmosphere!

Since we were already quite full,

we just grabbed drinks at a cafe with an ocean view.

The truly quiet and peaceful atmosphere,

combined with the stunning Mediterranean coastal scenery,

made us feel like we were on a full-blown relaxing getaway.

After finishing our Sitges itinerary,

we arrived back in Barcelona around 6 PM,

and that concluded our tour for the day.

Highly Recommended Spain Destinations

Today, I've shared insights into the Montserrat and Sitges tour,

which is an absolute must-do when you're traveling to Barcelona.

These two towns offer completely different charms from Barcelona city itself,

and you can comfortably visit both in just one day.

The tour cost was also very reasonable, making it a highly satisfying experience.

Personally, Montserrat really captured my heart,

but another friend who took the same tour

said they absolutely loved Sitges.

It might just be the perfect opportunity to discover your favorite town,

depending on your personal taste. So, if you find yourself in Barcelona,
