Among the top 3 honey cod restaurants in Barcelona,
is the famous La Flauta!
While everything was delicious, I personally
found La Flauta to be the tastiest.
La Flauta

It's just a 10-minute walk from Plaça de Catalunya and Casa Batlló,
making it perfect to visit in the evening after a day of sightseeing.
I visited around 7 PM on a weekday,
and was able to get a table without waiting.
On a nice day, eating outside would be lovely too!

Inside Atmosphere

True to its Spanish roots, the interior is lined with rows of hanging jamón.
There are many large tables and the seating area is quite spacious.
Given it's a popular restaurant and it was peak dinner time,
all the tables were full, and we snagged the last one.
Even though it's well-known among Koreans,
there were far more locals dining there.
The Menu

In addition to honey cod,
La Flauta also serves seafood dishes, tapas, sandwiches, and more.
The menu is quite varied.
They have an English menu, so ordering is not difficult.
Look for the honey cod listed as Codfish with honey allioli.
I visited in winter,
and since 'calçots' were on the 'Menu del día', I ordered them along with the honey cod,
and an Iberian jamón sandwich.
Food Review

Everything except the calçots arrived at once.
I ordered orange juice for my drink, and it was delicious.
It seems like I've never had a bad fruit juice in Europe..!

This sandwich, which I ordered out of curiosity for the Iberian jamón,
came wrapped in a croissant with cheese.
As expected, it was quite salty.
But that's exactly what jamón is all about, right!
It was a great way to whet my appetite before the honey cod.

The honey cod is a dish where cod is topped with an allioli sauce infused with honey,
and the top is grilled to a beautiful golden brown.
The red sauce underneath is usually tomato sauce, they say,
but I'm not sure if La Flauta uses the exact same one.
It had a slightly sweet and tangy flavor.

The inside was incredibly tender and easy to cut.
The portion size is quite modest, so I recommend ordering one to try,
and if it suits your taste, order another!

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of fish dishes,
and I was a little disappointed the first time I tried honey cod at another restaurant.
But after trying it at La Flauta,
I totally understood why people love it!
The sweetness of the sauce paired perfectly with the fish.
It wasn't a 'Wow, this is the best ever!' kind of feeling, but
it's a flavor I occasionally crave even now that I'm back in Korea 🩷.

Next up: calçots!
It's a traditional winter seasonal dish from the Catalonia region of Spain,
where a type of onion is grilled over charcoal,
and eaten with Romesco sauce.
I heard that Spaniards absolutely eat this in winter,
so I thought, 'Let's eat like the locals!' and ordered it.
Since the outside is grilled until black,
you might wonder how much of it is edible when you first see it,
but you just peel off the outer skin and eat the inside.
A staff member came over and asked, 'Would you like me to show you how to eat it?'
and immediately demonstrated. They were so kind! 😊

Honestly, the taste... it's just like a green onion?
It's definitely tastier than the green onions I usually eat,
savory and the sauce is delicious... but a calçot is just a calçot.
I wouldn't strongly recommend it, haha.
However, I was so satisfied with La Flauta itself,
that I'll definitely revisit it on my next trip to Spain!
