Hola, fellow travelers! Melissa here, your go-to Spain travel blogger.
It feels like finding a hotel with complimentary breakfast included is a rare gem these days, doesn't it?
On my recent trips, I've made it a habit to seek out fantastic breakfast spots to kickstart my day.
Today, I'm thrilled to share all the delicious details about Baluard Barceloneta, a place where you can savor amazing bread and coffee for a perfect Barcelona morning.
1. Baluard: A Fantastic Barcelona Breakfast Choice

Baluard Barceloneta, a renowned Barcelona bakery, is just a short stroll from Casa Milà.
As its name suggests, there's also a branch closer to Barceloneta beach, so you can choose the location that best suits your accommodation or daily itinerary.
I visited the location near Casa Milà. If you're planning to explore Gaudí's masterpieces like Casa Milà or Casa Batlló in the morning, this spot makes for a perfect pre-sightseeing breakfast stop.
This bakery is quite famous for its delicious bread, boasting over 1,500 Google reviews across both locations with an impressive average rating of 4.6!
2. Inside Baluard & What's on the Menu

On a beautiful, clear-sky morning, I eagerly headed out early for some fresh bread.
I had specifically searched for this place to enjoy some nostalgic bread I used to love when I lived in Spain. I was so excited to try it again after all this time!

They offer a wide variety of breads, with a strong focus on European-style savory loaves perfect for meals.
While I adore these types of breads, I decided against buying a whole loaf because I didn't want to carry it around all day. Looking back, I kind of regret that decision!

The shop has a somewhat long layout. Next to the meal breads, you'll find various Spanish sandwiches called Bocadillos, along with some slightly sweeter pastries.
You can even check out their detailed menu and prices on Google Maps:

After ordering, I grabbed our food and found a seat. Be aware that seating inside can be limited!
When I arrived, there weren't any empty tables, but luckily someone left just as I was looking, so I managed to snag a spot.

I ordered an Americano and got an extra glass of ice since iced Americanos aren't a standard offering here.
Next to it, in the small espresso cup, is a Cortado, a popular Spanish coffee made with espresso and a splash of milk.
We also ordered a Bocadillo and an Ensaimada. The flat, cushion-like pastry is the Ensaimada, and that's precisely the bread I came for!

Ensaimada is originally a specialty from Mallorca, but you can find it all over Spain.
You can even easily buy packaged versions in supermarkets, which I used to do quite often!
It's dusted with powdered sugar, but the pastry itself isn't overly sweet, making it perfect to enjoy with coffee in the morning.
It's not an incredibly complex flavor, but it's a quintessential Spanish pastry that I recommend trying at least once!
3. Experience a Traditional Barcelona Breakfast

While indoor seating is limited, Baluard offers plenty of outdoor tables, perfect for enjoying your breakfast on a beautiful day.
If the weather isn't too chilly, dining al fresco is a wonderful option.
Locals in Spain typically eat breakfast similar to what I had: a cup of coffee, perhaps some pan con tomate (bread with tomato), buttered toast, or a pastry like an Ensaimada or croissant.
The staff were friendly, and the bread was delicious, making for a truly satisfying start to my day. If I get the chance to visit again, I'd love to try their baguettes or sourdough bread.
I hope you all have a wonderful trip to Barcelona!
The Carrer de Pau Claris branch of Baluard Barceloneta is located very close to Casa Milà. It's a great place to stop by if you plan to visit Casa Milà or Casa Batlló in the morning.
Baluard Barceloneta operates from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM daily, with no closing days. No separate reservation is required.
At Baluard Barceloneta, you can enjoy bocadillos, a Spanish sandwich, and ensaimada bread, a specialty from Mallorca. Iced americanos are not sold separately, so you can order a regular americano and ask for a glass of ice to make your own.
