Barcelona Airport to City Guide 2026: Aerobus, Taxi & More
Arriving at Barcelona Airport? Find the easiest and most cost-effective ways to reach the city center, from the convenient Aerobus to taxis and public transit. Get ready for your trip!

When you land at Barcelona Airport, one of the first decisions you'll face is how to get to the city center. Should you splurge on a taxi or opt for the convenient airport bus? I personally found the Aerobus to be an excellent choice for my trip!
Let's break down all your options, comparing costs and travel times for different transport methods, and then dive into everything you need to know about the Aerobus, including where to catch it and how to buy your tickets.
Getting from the Airport to the City

Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) offers several ways to reach the city center: taxi, Aerobus, local city bus, train, and metro.
Transport Option | One-Way Fare | Estimated Travel Time | Pros | Cons |
Taxi | ~$37-48 | ~25-40 minutes | Direct to your accommodation | Fare varies by distance, traffic, and time of day |
Aerobus | ~$8 | ~30-35 minutes to Plaça de Catalunya | Direct to city center, luggage racks available | Affected by road congestion, special events |
City Bus 46 | ~$3 | ~40-60 minutes to Plaça d'Espanya | Affordable fare | Frequent stops, often requires further travel to central areas |
Train R2 Nord | ~$3 | ~20 minutes to Sants Estació, ~30 minutes to Passeig de Gràcia | Unaffected by road traffic | Departs from T2, T1 passengers need a shuttle transfer |
Metro L9 Sud | ~$6 | ~50-60 minutes to city center (including transfers) | Accessible from both T1 and T2 | No direct route to Plaça de Catalunya, requires transfers |

If your accommodation is near Plaça de Catalunya, the Aerobus is incredibly convenient as it takes you directly there without any transfers.
On the other hand, if you're traveling with a group and have a lot of luggage, comparing the cost of a taxi split among your companions might be worthwhile.
Where to Catch the Aerobus

The Aerobus pick-up point varies depending on which terminal you arrive at. Barcelona El Prat has two main terminals, T1 and T2, serving different airlines. Let's start with directions for Terminal 2.

For Terminal 2, after exiting the arrivals area, turn right and walk straight ahead. You'll soon spot a Burger King. Continue a little further, and you'll see a sign marked 'B' – this is your Aerobus boarding area.

You can purchase your tickets in advance online or directly at the station. Card payments are accepted. However, given that lines can be quite long, I highly recommend booking your ticket ahead of time.

A one-way ticket costs ~$8, and a round-trip ticket is ~$14. Opting for a round-trip ticket saves you about ~$2 compared to buying two one-way tickets.
Tickets are valid for 90 days from the purchase date. With mobile tickets, there's no need to exchange them for a physical copy; simply show the QR code on your screen to the staff for scanning!

For Terminal 1, simply follow the Aerobus signs from the arrivals level down to the Ground Floor bus stop area.
The boarding process is the same for both terminals.

The buses run frequently, so you won't have to wait long before hopping on board.
My Aerobus Experience

Inside the Aerobus, you'll find dedicated luggage racks, free Wi-Fi, and even USB charging ports – perfect for staying connected and powered up after your flight.
While concerns about pickpocketing are common in travel, the luggage racks are usually visible from your seat. Plus, the first stop is only about 20 minutes into the journey, so you generally don't need to worry too much about your bags. We had incredibly heavy suitcases, and frankly, no one seemed interested in them at all!

The standard route from the airport to the city center typically stops at:
Airport → Plaça d'Espanya → Gran Via–Borrell → Plaça Universitat → Plaça de Catalunya
However, on the day I traveled, due to a local festival in Spain, the bus route was temporarily shortened, and I had to get off near the Magic Fountain. It's always a good idea to ask the staff if the bus will go all the way to Plaça de Catalunya before boarding, especially if there are major events or festivals happening.
You should also check the official website for any service announcements or route changes!
