Dive into Bangkok's vibrant food scene with two Michelin-recommended local gems: Rung Rueang for quick, delicious noodles and Jae Oh Chula for unforgettable Tom Yum.

Every time I visit Bangkok, there are two eateries I simply can't miss!
This time, I'm sharing two Michelin-recognized spots that I've personally enjoyed, offering incredible authentic Thai flavors without breaking the bank.

First up is Rung Rueang, a fantastic noodle joint in Phrom Phong perfect for a quick, delicious bite. Then there's Jae Oh Chula, famous for its incredible Tom Yum Noodles, which was absolutely worth the long wait!
Let's compare the menus, prices, and even the waiting experience for both.

Rung Rueang: Phrom Phong's Local Noodle Gem

Rung Rueang is a personal favorite – I make sure to eat here at least once every time I'm in Bangkok!
It's super convenient, just about a 5-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong Station. Even visiting around 9 AM on a weekday, the place was bustling with customers. The tightly packed metal tables and chairs create that quintessential, lively Bangkok local eatery atmosphere!

If your Bangkok itinerary includes multiple BTS rides, it's worth comparing the cost of individual tickets versus a Rabbit Card for convenience and potential savings.

My travel companion and I ordered three small bowls of noodles: a mixed dry noodle soup, Tom Yum dry noodles, and water noodles with pork fish cakes. My absolute favorite was the water noodles!
The broth is rich and deeply flavorful – I even thought it would be perfect for a hangover cure after a night out.
The Tom Yum dry noodles weren't overwhelmingly strong in flavor, so even I, who isn't usually a huge Tom Yum fan, enjoyed them without any issue.

A small noodle bowl costs ~ $2. Even with three noodles, an orange juice, and a longan juice, our total bill was only around ~$7.
That longan juice, especially, was so good I still think about it back home!
Jae Oh Chula: Worth the Wait for Tom Yum Noodles

Our second Bangkok Michelin-recommended spot is Jae Oh Chula, located in Banthat Thong.
Instead of traditional reservations, they use the QueQ app for remote queuing.
It's GPS-based, so you need to be relatively close to the restaurant for the waiting list to activate. You can't just join from across town.

I put my name on the waiting list while nearby and spent my time exploring a cafe and a drugstore. I was seated about 1 hour and 30 minutes later.
In Bangkok, you'll find yourself using data constantly for maps, ride-hailing apps like Grab, and even waiting apps like QueQ.
Preparing a Thai eSIM before you depart means you can use maps and transportation apps immediately upon arrival at the airport, which is incredibly convenient.

The signature Tom Yum Noodles cost ~ $9, and the fried tofu we ordered alongside was ~ $3.
I was a bit worried the Tom Yum flavor would be too strong, but I ordered it without cilantro, and it was surprisingly palatable. The sour and spicy broth was incredibly addictive, and the unexpected highlight was the fried tofu.

Crispy on the outside and incredibly soft, almost like silken tofu, on the inside – I think most palettes would really enjoy it. Just a heads-up, Jae Oh Chula only accepts cash or QR payments, so make sure to bring some baht with you!
