A couple of winters ago, in early 2025, my parents, my boyfriend, and I embarked on an unforgettable trip to Bangkok!
While Bangkok boasts numerous vibrant districts, we have a particular soft spot for a certain area. So, after spending some time in the bustling city center with my parents, we decided to switch things up for our final few days and moved our accommodation to Bang Na, a charming neighborhood a little outside central Bangkok.
Bang Na offers a refreshing escape from the downtown frenzy. It's packed with fantastic restaurants and shopping spots, yet it has a distinctly different, more relaxed vibe compared to the tourist-heavy city core.
If you ever find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, Bang Na is the perfect place to unwind and recharge, offering a glimpse into local life.
1. Discovering a Local Gem in Bang Na
One evening, while staying in Bang Na with my parents, my boyfriend and I were on the hunt for a dinner spot. We stumbled upon Ripasso, and what a find it was!
Instead of seeking out famous, tourist-packed restaurants, we preferred finding somewhere convenient and comfortable near our accommodation. This spontaneous discovery made our experience even more memorable!
Staying in Bang Na, you'll love the thrill of discovering these authentic, local eateries that offer a true taste of the neighborhood.
Ripasso
Weekdays 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Weekends 11:00 AM - 10:00 PM
📍 Ripasso 124 Soi Udom Suk 51, Khwaeng Bang Chak, Khet Phra Khanong, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10260 Thailand
Ripasso struck us as a casual, local restaurant where residents of Bang Na come to enjoy a pleasant meal in a relaxed atmosphere.
Since we were traveling with my parents, we were looking for something a bit more upscale than a typical street food stall, but still with a local feel. Ripasso fit the bill perfectly, offering a great ambiance and the option to enjoy some wine, which we were certainly looking forward to!
2. Incredible Value on Every Dish
Browsing the menu, we were pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the prices were across the board.
To sample a variety of dishes for the four of us, we decided to order a set menu along with a few à la carte items.
The 890 THB set menu included a fresh rocket salad, delicious ravioli, and a flavorful striploin steak. We were impressed by how quickly the food arrived!
Initially, I thought it might be nice if the dishes came out a bit slower, like a traditional course meal. But seeing everything laid out at once, creating a grand feast, was actually even better!
We also ordered a medium Parma ham pizza and a medium Napoli pizza, which added to our impressive spread.
The pizzas were 260 THB and 200 THB, respectively.
For wine, we chose an Italian Primitivo for 870 THB a bottle.
It was a reasonably priced bottle, perfect for adding a touch of elegance to our meal without breaking the bank.
Alcohol taxes in Thailand can be quite high, making wines in supermarkets surprisingly expensive. So, finding a bottle at this price point in a restaurant felt incredibly fair and well worth it!
3. A Delightful Evening at a Neighborhood Italian Spot
Both my parents, my boyfriend, and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Ripasso, a fantastic local Italian restaurant in Bangkok!
It’s not an ultra-luxurious spot, but it’s a comfortable and casual place where everyone can relax and have a great time, which is exactly what we were looking for.
Oh, and we also ordered a seafood pasta, and honestly, all the dishes were consistently good.
Instead of heading to a separate cafe, we decided to finish our meal right there with dessert, ordering tiramisu and Americano coffees for a perfect end to our evening!
4. Final Thoughts
While it's a neighborhood Italian restaurant and not aiming for Michelin stars, Ripasso certainly delivered a wonderful dining experience.
And the prices were incredibly friendly!
For everything – including steak, salad, ravioli, seafood pasta, two pizzas, a bottle of wine, tiramisu, two coffees, water, ice, and a non-alcoholic piña colada – the total for four of us was 2,859 THB. This comes out to roughly ~$84, an incredibly reasonable price for such a delightful evening!
It was the perfect way to wind down our day with my parents and boyfriend, enjoying a comfortable dinner. We truly appreciated the relaxed atmosphere of Bang Na, a pleasant contrast to the tourist-filled city center, and Ripasso perfectly embodied that charm. It was a memorable local restaurant find in Bangkok!
