1. Vaccines (6 Months Before) – Save Money at Local Health Centers!
When preparing for Bali, my biggest worries were "Bali Belly," infectious diseases, and local sanitation.
Getting sick abroad ruins your entire itinerary and is incredibly stressful.
My personal philosophy is to prevent whatever can be prevented, especially since my immune system can be sensitive.
So, I made sure to get all my recommended shots before leaving.
Aside from Bali Belly, typhoid, dengue fever, and measles, rabies has also been a growing concern in Bali recently.
Depending on where you live, local public health clinics offer incredible rates.
Vaccines like Hepatitis B and Typhoid can be done at community health centers for free or for as little as ~$4.
I highly recommend checking your local health department's offerings to save money before heading overseas!
I ended up getting vaccinated for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) before my flight.
I did Hepatitis A and MMR at a local private clinic.
I debated getting a tetanus shot, but since my itinerary didn't include any extreme outdoor activities, I decided to skip it.
2. Pre-Entry Visas and Mandatory Declarations
Indonesia updated its entry declaration system recently.
Previously, travelers had to handle four separate items:
1. e-VOA (Electronic Visa on Arrival)
2. Health Pass
3. Electronic Customs Declaration (ECD)
4. Bali Tourist Levy
Now, the Health Pass and the Customs Declaration have been integrated into a single, unified portal!
To keep your arrival seamless, prepare these three things before you fly:
1. Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA)
2. Integrated Declaration QR (Health + Customs)

3. eSIM vs. Physical SIM Card
Securing your internet connection before you land is an absolute must.
Personally, I try to avoid physical SIM cards because of the risk of losing my original SIM card.
I've actually had my pocket picked while traveling before, so keeping my physical SIM safely locked inside my phone is a priority.
That is why I always opt for eSIMs.
Data speed and hotspot capabilities are also crucial for me since I travel with my iPad.
I need a fast, reliable connection that handles tethering without any lag.

It depends on the public health center in your area, but you can get vaccinated for Hepatitis B and Typhoid for free or for ~$4. For Hepatitis A and Measles, you can get vaccinated at a local clinic.
The existing Health Pass and Electronic Customs Declaration have been combined into a Unified Declaration QR. Therefore, you must prepare three items before entry: an Electronic e-Visa (or Visa on Arrival), the Unified Declaration QR, and the Tourist Tax.
