Bali Airport Transfer Guide 2026: Pickup, Grab, or Gojek?

Whenever I land in a new country, my top priorities are always getting a local SIM card and figuring out the best way to reach my accommodation.

For my recent trip to Bali, the age-old question arose: how to get from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) to my hotel? I considered a traditional taxi, rideshares like Grab or Gojek, or a pre-booked private pickup. Honestly, my decision was almost made before I even started researching.

Traditional taxis were quickly off the table for me. In most of Southeast Asia, Grab is my go-to, but I'd heard that in Bali, there's sometimes a preference for Gojek, or even a bit of local resistance to Grab in certain areas.

Since I didn't have the Gojek app installed and wanted to keep things simple, I decided to skip that option. That left me with two main choices: trying my luck with Grab, or opting for a convenient Bali airport pickup service.

Given the chatter about potential Grab resistance and wanting a completely hassle-free arrival after a long flight, I leaned towards the guaranteed comfort of a pre-arranged pickup.

Truth be told, I wasn't always a fan of pre-booked airport transfer services. However, after trying them a few times, I've become completely hooked! They're just so incredibly convenient and take all the stress out of arriving in a new place, especially when you're tired. It's truly the most comfortable way to start any trip.

I made my reservation through KKday well in advance of my travel date. Before my trip, I received clear instructions on how to contact my driver. This meant that as soon as I sorted out my local SIM card at the airport (or connected to Wi-Fi), I could easily communicate with my driver in real-time, which was incredibly reassuring.

It was particularly helpful when my flight was delayed; I could message my driver right after landing, letting them know my updated arrival time.

My flight actually departed on schedule, but unfortunately, due to some unexpected weather conditions, we ended up arriving almost 40 minutes behind schedule.

As you can see from the chat log, my original arrival time was 7:20 PM, but we didn't touch down until closer to 8:00 PM. (The timestamp in the messenger shows 9:06 PM, but that's due to the time difference after I returned home. It was 8:06 PM local Bali time when I messaged.)

To add to the delays, my travel companion had a slight hiccup with their documents at immigration, and then we spent a bit more time getting a local SIM card (I had pre-ordered mine, but my friend opted to buy one on arrival to compare). All told, we were about 90 minutes late meeting our driver, but he waited patiently for us without any issues.

What truly impressed me was his unwavering kindness and patience; he didn't show an ounce of frustration despite the long wait. It really cemented my feeling that booking the Bali airport pickup was the absolute best decision.

When I made my booking, I had the option to choose between a 4-seater, 8-seater, or even a 13-seater vehicle. For just myself and my companion, the 4-seater was perfect.

A surprisingly spacious and comfortable car arrived to pick us up.

After a quick meeting at the airport, he graciously helped us with our luggage, loading it into the car.

Before we set off for our hotel, I needed to make a quick restroom stop, and he kindly kept an eye on our bags.

Our driver was clearly a seasoned professional. The ride was incredibly smooth and comfortable, and he even adjusted the air conditioning to our liking. We arrived at our first accommodation feeling relaxed and ready to begin our Bali adventure.
