Ashikaga Flower Park is Tochigi Prefecture's iconic floral destination in Japan, especially famous for its stunning wisteria in spring.

The park boasts over 350 wisteria trees in bloom,

and you can also explore an 80-meter-long tunnel of white wisteria!

Beyond wisteria, it's also a popular spot for seasonal flowers and breathtaking illuminations throughout the year.

Location & How to Get There

Ashikaga Flower Park is nestled in 607 Hasamachō, Tochigi Prefecture, about a 2-hour journey from Tokyo.

From Tokyo Station, take the Utsunomiya Line subway,

alight at Oyama Station, then transfer to the JR Ryomo Line.

Once you arrive at Ashikaga Flower Park Station,

the park is just a 2-minute walk away.

This journey takes about 2 hours and costs 2,090 yen.

🚆Alternative Transport Options

🔻You can also take the Shinkansen instead of the Utsunomiya Line to get off at Oyama Station.

🔻While it's about 30 minutes faster than the subway, it's pricier at 4,700 yen, so keep that in mind!

Admission Fees

Admission fees vary depending on the blooming status, with the highest prices typically from mid-April to May when the wisteria is in full bloom.

The exact fee is determined on the morning of your visit, so you can check the official website before heading over.

I visited on April 27th, right when the flowers were in full bloom!

Since we were a group of 20, we got a sweet 10% discount on our admission.

Once you leave, re-entry isn't possible,

so for anyone hoping to catch the evening light-up,

I highly recommend timing your arrival for around sunset.

Wisteria Photo Zones

The day I went, it was truly the peak of the blooming season,

and simply strolling through areas dense with wisteria blossoms,

every corner naturally became a stunning photo zone!

I purposely wore a white skirt that perfectly complemented the vibrant purple flowers,

and it was absolutely the right choice 💜

It was my first time seeing wisteria flowers in person,

and I was genuinely surprised by how strong their fragrance was.

It was similar to chestnut blossoms, but with a distinctly sweeter note.

Beyond the vibrant purple blooms, you could also spot white wisteria flowers

dotted all around the park.

That said, the purple ones definitely photograph better!

Beyond the wisteria, every corner of the flower park is

lavishly adorned with a dazzling array of other flowers.

It truly felt like being completely enveloped in a vibrant flower wonderland! ☺️

You'll find incredibly tall wisteria walls, serene ponds,

and even a magnificent tree that's over 160 years old!

Have you ever heard of the anime 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba'?

The wisteria flower location that demons in the manga despise

is actually Ashikaga Flower Park!

If you check out the night light-up photos below,

you'll instantly understand why!

Nighttime Light-Up

The time the lights switch on changes with the sunset,

and on my visit, they began at 5:30 PM.

To experience the full magic of the nighttime light-up,

you'll want to wait until at least 7:00 PM,

so for that truly dark, enchanting view,

it's best to visit a little later in the evening.

While the daytime scenery is undeniably beautiful, once darkness falls

and the wisteria flowers are illuminated, they become truly spectacular!

If you're planning a visit to the Flower Park,

I absolutely recommend staying to witness the nighttime light-up.

Snacks & Treats

You'll find several dining options within the Flower Park,

offering everything from full meals like udon and donburi,

to delightful snacks like ice cream and savory hot bars,

making it perfectly convenient to stay and explore until late!

The must-try signature snack here is

none other than Wisteria Flower Ice Cream!

For those who've tried lavender ice cream in Japan,

you'll probably enjoy it, but for those who aren't keen on floral scents,

it might be a hit-or-miss flavor.

I, for one, absolutely loved it! 💜

Only appearing in April and May each year,

are Ashikaga Flower Park's incredible wisteria blooms.

When you see it in person, you'll feel completely enveloped by the blossoms;

it's an overwhelmingly spectacular and magnificent place.
